Please can anyone let me know why India plays its first game after everyone else has already played their second game?
Am I mistaken?

Ok lets cut to the chase, shall we?
Are we smelling a controversy here?

They need to take at least two weeks break after IPL completion.
No controversy. According to one of the Lodha committee recommendations Indian cricket team cannot play any international matches after IPL completion for two weeks. This is to force some rest between IPL and international commitments
Honestly I thought I would settle down to watch some cricket without knowing which game was on today...
Was hoping to watch India play but was pleasantly surprised to see two games on st the same time but neither games involved India...
So checked schedule on Cricinfo fully expecting India to be playing tomorrow, knowing that Pakistan Vs Rngland game is on Monday and there is no way the hosts could be playing two games before India has even played its first game... didn’t seem right so had to check further just to make sure India hadn’t pulled out for some reason...
So as it stands every team would have played twice before India even plays its first game. They will therefore have extra time to prepare, have a game in hand over the rest and it just doesn’t seem right in a tournament especially one as big as the worldcup...
Thanks MenInG...
So India get an advantage due to its domestic tournament...
Cricket as a whole seems to be going the same way as the Pakistan team... down the drain.
I see.. so does that apply to all the international players too? The ones that played the IPL?
Thanks MenInG...

Also if NRR comes into play then India will have an advantage on that too.
Surely, that also means that India needs to play more games in a shorter period of time as opposed to other teams.

Is it an advantage? I would say yes. But other teams organised their World Cup camp well before India did. Their players left the IPL early too. So Indians getting a few days extra time is ok, irrespective of what the Lodha committee says. Now I can argue that Pakistan were handed a much greater advantage by allowing them to play a five match ODI series just before World Cup in England, that too against England. That’s a much bigger advantage than getting a few extra days.
No one stopped India to set up their world cup camp early and play the series against England before the WC.
However, India getting preferential treatment of having a delayed WC start is absurd and clear favoritism on ICC's part which is blatantly unfair.
That wasn’t my point. If we go looking for faults we’ll be able to find many. India is rightfully allowed a break. Otherwise it would have been unfair. And then there’s the Lodha committee guidelines which the team has to follow. No one stopped India to set up their world cup camp early and play the series against England before the WC.
I can understand Pakistanis having an issue with this as you don’t take part in the IPL. Other countries do. And many of them left the IPL early to join WC camps. They won’t complain. However, India getting preferential treatment of having a delayed WC start is absurd and clear favoritism on ICC's part which is blatantly unfair.
Why do you care OP?

Anyways having played a full ODI series against England in England just before the World Cup, you guys should be the last ones complaining about ‘unfair advantage’.

So my question goes to you to..
What has this got to do with Pakistan?
It’s a major world tournament views by millions... surely every team should be on a level playing field?
If India wasn't allowed this schedule then WC itself would have been pushed ahead. As it is IPL was played earlier this year to not interfere with WC.
Then surely the tournament should have started one week later?
I’m surprised many people are just dismissing this.

If every team should be on a level playing field then Pakistan should not have been allowed to play a full series in England.
That doesn’t any sense.
We’re talking about the tournament and it’s start date...
If you play the bi lateral series card then you can go back in history and see how many teams played bi laterals in a host country just prior to the start of the tournament. But this is not the point here.
And since when did Lodha commission have jurisdiction over ICC?
I think people are dismissing it because it is pretty stupid to think that India have gained some sort of advantage.

It is a freaking schedule. Having rest up front means less rest in the backend. It is not exactly "beneficial" as you try to imply. WHy does it matter if India plays their match a little later. It is not like they will suddenly become a super team in 10 days.
May be i’m not being clear...
This could work for or against India, time will tell.
Forget Pakistan for a moment. This is not about Pakistan.
A worldcup, the top cricketing tournament, the pinnacle of players careers,
and one team plays its first game while another team has already played three whilst all the others have already played two games... This is not right... and it doesn’t matter which country it is.
If ICC doesn't have a problem with it why do you?
Well I only found out about it today.
So I was amazed when I found out.
In fact I couldn’t quiet believe it.
I’m sorry but even if it was England or Afghanistan starting this late I would be shocked.
Is their any World Cup in any other sport that allows this?
I think majority of the players played IPL from start to finish (something they obviously aren't able to miss since they are vital players for their franchises and $$$) and they are one of the favourites so I guess they wanted to give some of the players much needed rest since they are obviously burnt out, need some time away and lessens the chance of injury.
It wont be beneficial for World Cricket if one of the favourites for the team is fatigued due to something beyond their control.
Right and like I said all the teams should have started on a level playing field.
So why couldn’t they start the tourney just one week later?
06th June instead of 30th May..
Look I know people think it’s not such a big deal and time will tell if it works for or against India...
BUT why even take that risk?
If the BCCI were as strong as everyone claims they are then why couldn’t they convince the ICC to push it back a few days?
Because instead of rescheduling a bunch of matches they'd rather just reschedule Indian matches?
Then it’s back to square one.
As a British Pakistany I want England or Pakistan to win the World Cup.
What I don’t want is for India (or any nation) to complain about the scheduling once the cup is over.
Delaying a teams participation can have so many affects (or none), but IMHO it is unfair as a whole and no team should be given special dispensation.
India wanted this schedule so there is no reason they should complain.
And since when did Lodha commission have jurisdiction over ICC?
and if it works in their favour?
and if it works in their favour?
Schedules don't change your fortune. It is how you play will dictate your fortune. They are going to play all the teams just like every other team.
I’m sorry but that’s just not the case.
To give an example.
India plays their first game against South Africa, who have shed their World Cup nerves, their performance mentally will be different to when they played against England, which was their first game..
Now what if South Africa lose their second game too and then play India who will be playing their first game?? How does this affect the intensity?
Moving forward, What if India know they have to win their last three games to qualify and know what NRR they have to achieve? That could be construed as an advantage..
OR their crucial game gets rained off when really they should have played this weekend, when the weather is hot and sunny..
Instead of playing this weekend, they play when the wicket is slightly more used and offers help to their spinners....
These are just some questions that could spring up, all of them could have been avoided...
What? That is ridiculous. You could apply the same theory to every single match. Australia is facing Afghanistan first. So they will be super confident next match. Why did they play the first match against afghanistan and not ENgland? England played SA first match wanting to catch them off guard before they settle down. WHy did they play SA first match? See how ridiculous it sounds. Players don't worry about all those things. They worry about winning all the matches. If a team allows their last match result affect the current match then they don't deserve to be in the semi final.
Ridiculous xan we expect this kind of scheduling in FIFA WC
So my question goes to you to..
What has this got to do with Pakistan?

It has nothing to do with Pakistan. I was just saying that people can argue that Pakistan is getting an unfair advantage by arriving early in England and playing an ODI series there. There are definitely certain advantages to it but nobody is using it to target PCT or PCB in any way.
India is not going to get much of an advantage out of these additional days. The team is spending their time playing paintball and stuff like that. They are getting a chance to understand the general nature of some of the pitches but I don’t think it’s a huge advantage. You can never judge a pitch by watching others play on it. And I don’t think they were banking on these initial matches to form tactics.
So I think the playing field is quite level.
People thinking this is fair must look at football where top players may have to play for their club and country within a week. Why doesn't FIFA try to rig the schedule to benefit a particular country
and what if a game is rained off? You can’t win a game if it’s rainjng?
I think it’s extremely naive to think that one team can start later then the others without even a small chance of it having an affect of the outcome, whether in one game or the whole tournament..
That’s why teams are not given any special dispensation in other World Tournaments.
I was also looking forward to watching them play this weekend
Pakistan arriving early has nothing to do with WC schedule. You wont see many examples in other sports where one team gets an accommodating schedule in a world tournament.
So what’s the issue here? India getting an advantage or the unusual schedule?
Again how can you predict rain like 6 months back? Personally it gives zero benefit to India. I would have wanted India take on England in the first match. Now SA is well prepared for their second match. India will be having some nervous time in their first match.
and I rest my case
