Why does it take the Pakistan management halfway into a tournament to realise the best XI?

It's almost every world tournament Pakistan doesn't know it's best team until half way through the tournament. I remember the last tournament we won T20 2009, we swapped tanvir for razzaq and it was the turning point. Similar to 2015 world cup it wasn't until we dropped the likes of younis and jamshed to make Sarfraz open we became competitive.

But this time takes the biscuit! We all knew (even 80% of people on this forum with a brain) that wahab should not play ahead of junaid Khan! They even dropped wahab for Junaid in the series vs WI just few weeks ago! Ridiculous and guess what .... it cost us the match .

Even worse we know we need modern attacking openers and we only have one in the squad ... Fakhar zaman and guess what ... they don't pick him

Furthermore we are in dire need of a late order hitter and we found one in fahim (who won us a warm up vs Bang) ... and guess what...he wasn't picked

The best team:

Fakhar Zaman
Sarfraz Ahmed
Babar Azam
Haris Sohail
Malik
Imad Wasim
FAHIM
Shadab
Amir
Hassan
Junaid

Just hope they don't realise too late!

Ps most of you have already mentioned this team just shocked it takes management who are experts so long to realise

We're still not playing the strongest XI from the available squad. Swap Hafeez for Faheem Ashraf and bat Sarfraz at number 4. Hafeez in the team is disturbing our batting order and forcing possibly our best bat in the middle overs, Sarfraz, down at number 6. A case could be made for Harris to replace Hafeez but we really need a lower order hitter like Faheem ahead of him, got enough accumulators as it is.

That's not our best XI, our best XL includes Haris and not Fahim with Hafeez opening. I've realised that the lineup with Imad at 6 is too frail with his and Babar's form not being great.

Nepotism, nepotism and some more nepotism. I don't care if you have to agree with me or not but certain players (especially from Lahore) will always be preferred over the likes of Junaid, Fakhar et al without any reason whatsoever.

That's just how it is in Pakistan unfortunately.

Exact team i prefer too..but i am not sure if Haris/Fahim will perform from Match 1 if you give them a chance in this tournament but they should be tried & persisted..TBH we should have given them enough matches to this team combination way ahead of this tournament!

Hain? So Mickey and Sarfraz didn't pick that xi because of nepotism?!?!?!? :)))

Pakistan's best eleven is always outside the playing eleven after losing. :)) Subcontinent mentality: Those not playing are better than those playing.

I have always wondered this and it is a mixture of a few things. One is of course poor planning going into most of these major tournaments. I think most of us feel this is not even the best squad for Pakistan and some players who could be in UK are back in Pakistan.

Secondly, nepotism and unfortunately there are some external pressures that continue to act on the team. I feel the captain and coach are waiting for a failure to happen so that they can change the players which is exactly what happened in Wahab and Shehzad's case. I would not be surprised if external pressures acted again once Junaid and Fakhar have a couple of bad outings.

This nepotism is the reason why Pakistan team can not develop. If players can get into the team with backing they will not feel the need to work hard to stay in the team. This really hinders our progression and has been for many many years. I feel this is a major reason why our players don't train hard enough, or are not focused enough. You compare our players to any players over the world after being in and around the international teams they should get better. Our players tend to get worse with time.

Uhmm do you even watch Pak games? Its clear hafeez is wasting the no 4 spot. Malik and sarfaraz should bat together as they can take singles. Hafeez should bat at 6 if they want to play him. The captain is wasting himself at 6.

Sarfaraz at 4 and malik at 5 will be a huge improvement.
