What's new

Why does Mohammad Rizwan prefer speaking in English despite struggling with it?

“I don’t feel my job demands that I know English”

Isn’t this a clear admission that he doesn’t understand what foreign coaches are trying to tell him in order to improve his game?

He doesn’t feel he needs to know what they are telling him because learning the language they impart their knowledge to him isn’t something he feels he needs?

It shows the upbringing of people who make fun of his English.

The guy just accepted that he has a regret that he didnt get a proper education and to still laugh at him like that just shows what kind of backgrounds some people belong to.

He admits and accepted he is not educated, cant speak English and isnt a requirement from him, but i guess since people who are out there to hate someone need to look for reasons they use this.

Funny thing is, some of these people also give us bs about how they are seeking religion but dont even know basics of not making fun of someone who accepts his issues

No one expects him to speak English. The only thing he should do is to answer questions correctly and to the point in Urdu. His main problem is he doesn't communicate correctly in his native language

In my view, when people like Hogg troll Rizwan, they are mocking his humbug personality rather than his background or his education.

in cricketing world, many fellow cricketers view Rizwan as overly dramatic and prone to hyperbole person. Not many people like or respect this. It is also a trait that Javed had but he also had the underlying skill and performances to grudgingly earn respect which Rizwan as yet doesnt.

All the troll riffs of 'Yes is a two', 'clapping karenge' , 'win or learn' are mostly in similiar vein except when it reaches lower levels of social media where people are on purpose malicious and will not hesitate to mobilize Indo-Pak tensions to get reach and views

I believe he is trying hard to be a good leader and given Pak current options, he is a reasonable choice for ODI captaincy till next world cup.

I also believe that even if Rizwan were to take spoken English classes and become fluent, he would still prefer to use the broken English as a shield to use for sympathy card when he is grilled by media

Thats the Swag, which Rizwan fails in everytime then again Afridi has no comparison with Rizwan, for the former Indian crowd clapped whereas the latter got chants of Jai Shri Ram. Sums up the aura level :ravi

@Bhaijaan

No comparison bhai. Afridi was a born superstar. A special talent, special person, a special father and going to be a special grandfather. This man has had a dream life and is the ultimate winner. I just wish maybe he improved his batting slightly he could have had an even bigger stature as a cricketer than he already has but nevertheless one of your biggest superstars ever and arguably even the biggest crowd puller ever in Pakistan maybe? I remember back in your 2000s, 2010s phase people used to come to watch him only and would leave when he would get out. What a box office attraction. In the modern era if after Sachin anyone is near in this regard it’s Virat & Afridi without a doubt followed by Shabby.

Lack of English is not the issue here, but lack of education definitely is. Rizwan is the captain of the national team. If he is not educated enough to effectively strategize or communicate the strategies to his team even in his native language then that obviously becomes an issue. Many times I have seen some weird field placements or questionable bowling rotations from the Pakistani team captains like Babar or Rizwan & the first thought obviously is - has lack of education stunted their critical thinking process?

To be really frank I don't understand the argument here. Considering cricket is becoming more and more a global sport due to the various T20 Leagues around the world, a player or a team claiming that they will not learn even functional English is appalling. In the past players got away with that but again their only reason to learn any English was if they played in county cricket. Now with Pakistan players participating in every T20 league there is in the world saying that they cannot learn the language is just laziness.

All these T20 leagues are a way to also interact with various coaches around the world, with players around the world to learn and improve but if Pakistan players are not doing that, no wonder they keep regressing. If you are not able to speak the language, you will go to a BBL and try to look for another Pakistan player or Asian player in the league and just limit your interaction with only them. I think a couple of foreign coaches have already spoken about not being able to get through some players. This is not helpful for the development of the players in the long run. I feel this is a major reason for Pakistan players who come with tremendous talent do not improve and remain stagnant. What's the point of sharing change rooms with legends of the game or with reputed international coaches if you are not going to approach them to learn and improve?

Please don't give multiple languages theory. I am an Indian and I can speak 5 languages (3 of them fluently and 2 broken). Sachin was a school drop out as well and you can find his 1980's interview before he made his debut where he was struggling to put together a sentence but later put in an effort to learn the language. Even in Pakistan players like Mushtaq Ahmed, Waqar Younis, Saqlain Mushtaq etc all learnt English playing in England. So I feel in this day and age if you are saying that you will not learn the language it greatly hampers your ability to learn and improve. You can play in 100 different leagues but you will not learn anything from there as you will be shy and not talk to anyone other than with people who speak Urdu.

I understand that English is not required to play the sport but even as a player you need to keep improving and try to pick the brains of the legends you rub shoulders with in the various leagues you are part of. I feel players now a days have great chance to improve their language, even if it is just functional. Anything else is excuse.

Also I agree with people that English alone will not improve the amount of dross Rizwan says in press conferences but again if he can't speak or will not improve the language, he should only speak in Urdu with interpreter. I remember when Razzak, Saqlain all made their debut's in the 90's Wasim used to accompany them for post match etc.

I don’t think this guy understands the issue.

No one cares that you don’t know English. Whatever you say in the language that you try to express is is pure nonsense! It’s not correct! Your excuses are rubbish! You may not be educated but those who are smart enough know that you are chatting absolute nonsense! Getting trolled for bad English isn’t justice to the rubbish and divisiveness you are spreading!!

On top of it, you say that you are demanded to play cricket for your country. Well, when are you going to play for your country and not for yourself???
I agree here. Even when he speaks in Urdu he is cringe. There is that video of he trying to motivate his teammates about being champions and he comes off pathetic. None of our English is perfect. It is second, third and even fourth language for us. He has nothing insightful to say in any language. He just comes across as a big pretender and his thoughts are cringy and senseless

This guy knows deep down that he is inferior.

He then attempts 10x harder to articulate simple thoughts. To mend his bruised ego. And put on a show for outside world.

But then fails further. Vicious, self-inflicted cycle this.

Rizwan needs to take a leaf out of Prime Minister Modi’s book about communication.

We make too much of an issue out of English. Does Messi speak English? Rizwan's importance to the current PCT is more or less Messi's to Argentina over the years and no one trolled Messi? I have a house help, uneducated cleaner who spent some time in Australia who told me no one cares about English over there as long as you can get your point across.

There are numerous videos of Mohammad Rizwan's interviews circulating on social media, with many people poking fun at his English-speaking skills.

He often uses a lot of words at a rapid pace without conveying much substance, which can make the interviews feel unproductive for both the interviewer and the broadcasters.

There’s absolutely no shame in using an interpreter to ensure clearer communication. It would save time and make the interactions more meaningful.
Atleast he is trying

Exactly. He is cringe and his fellow cricketers lack respect for him and that's why they often make fun of him. He is also a cunning person as evidenced by his efforts to confuse people about the nationality of the fan who had abused Haris Rauf. Those who support him have similar traits of being cunning and and dishonest.
