Why does the Pakistan team give more heartbreaks than happiness?

It is hard being a die hard PAK cricket team fan, when you have mostly seen them under perform when it matters.

Yes I am referring to the 2nd ODI vs Eng of recent. They were Almost there!! But that has been the case mostly with our team as they tend to lose the plot in the end. (call it the nerves, bottling up or whatever)

Its like at one moment they will cause fans Expectations to skyrocket and then crash it the next moment by playing so badly.

In addition to above I can give numerous examples where we couldn't make it over the line like:

1) T20 WC 2007 Final (Misbah slogging a catch to Sreeshanth)

2) CWC 2011 Semi Final (again Misbah being defensive and making a small total look mammoth)

3) T20 WC Semi final 2010 vs Australia where Mike Hussey dented our hopes of reaching the finals

4) CWC 1999 where we looked unbeatable (having Wasim/Akhtar) and we crashed out vs Aus in the Final (although we had beaten them earlier)

On the bright side we do have something to cheer about from ICC events like the 92 WC, CT17, T20WC 2009

I don't think anyone would have placed their bet on this team reaching a 350+ score while chasing in a foreign land, and knowing my team over the years, I don't feel this kinda performance will be repeated so soon. (depends on Fakhar's consistency a lot - yes he is pivotal for crossing 300+ scores for PAK team)

There seems to be some hope but having witnessed more heartbreaks than happiness, I would still keep my expectations on the lower side. We do have the upcoming ODI's to look forward to and will have some experiments/changes so things might become more clearer.

Whatever happens from now on, we hope the boys peak at the right time InshaAllah and win it for the Nation and those praying for them all across the globe. Aameen

Because this is Pakistan and this is Pakistan Cricket.

“Pakistan cricket at it’s best, one minute down next minute up.”

Which basically means we are going to have a mediocre performance in remaining ODI matches. I hope they prove me wrong this time ..

Pakistan's batting culture has the biggest downfall for the teams across these tournaments. Even some of our top ODI batsmen like Inzi and MoYo have bottled it when the stakes are high.

I dont understand why you guys make it as if the world revolves around Pakistan.

Every team gives happiness and heartbreaks.
I think the team that has given the most heartbreaks is Sri Lanka.

The only good thing Pakistan is that its one of the few teams that could win games on the back of its bowling. Be it the 2015 world cup or the champions trophy of 2017. WE have won matches on our bowling.

However, this year we dont even have a good bowling line up to back us up

Because this is a mediocre team with mentality weak players. They may punch above their weights on a fluky day but overall they will disappoint.

Bcoz my country is PAK and I have always wanted it to be a consistently well performing team. Like it is doing somewhat better in T20s.

True.. They lack the 'killer instinct', 'passion' or desire to win which makes teams like Australia, England and India far superior and deserving for triumphs they obtain in tough times.

Nevertheless, hope with time we learn this trait or a find a perfect combination of such players who possess that capability.

Killer instinct is true only for aussies. Eng have lost 3 wc finals, 1 ct final and 1 t20 final
While india have lost numberless finals themselves .
Winning and losing is a part of sports. No team can ever win every event. Doesnt matter how consistent or good you are

Coz we don't have the killer instinct that comes with discipline. By and large we have always been an undisciplined side particularly when the opposition pouts us under pressure. Nowadays we don't have any world class players either who can snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

There are three simple reasons
1. Pak selections are always questionable, deserving and skillful players are overlooked in favour of seniors and favourites.
2. Pakistanis as a nation crumble under pressure.
3. Pakistanis do not work as hard as other nations in training and fitness, and ignore diet discipline.

I think we should have at least one more world-cup. That would have been okay for me.

Two ODI world titles, a t-20 world cup, and a CT win would be nice. That said, we should have at least won two t-20 world cups too. At one time we were just miles ahead of everyone in that game.

For the rankings we have had especially in recent times I think it's much less of a heartbreak these days.

If you want to talk about any country try that had more heartbreaks then no one comes close to South Africa.

I knew it.. This team gives hopes by scoring 358 and then on a flipside a really poor performance in 2nd innings. Bad captaincy, fielding.. Only junaid khan stood out from the lot.. Dont know why Sarfraz didn't try him earlier on. We deserve in rankings where we are today...

It's a part and parcel of supporting a mediocre team. You have to deal with it.

Yep.

75, 79, 87, 96, 99

One of these.

Preferably the 99

Today wasn't heart breaking. It was predictable that England would chase it down.
