Why don't many sub-continental players take up umpiring after retirement?

Isn't umpiring a lucrative position?

I dont mean the top cricketers need to take it up but surely the lesser known ones who struggle to earn some money after retirement can definitely work hard on it and take it up. How difficult is it to get to the ICC panel?

Not only subcontinent players, but overall most international players don't go for umpiring. I think their most preferred thing to do is commentary, since it is easier than umpiring and probably more lucrative.

Maybe it is not considered a high status Job. Generally Only mediocre intl. players, domestic players are umpires. Also it isnt as easy as being an expert in the commentary team.

I guess from umpiring if they can go as Match Refree earnings will be good..Paul Reifel is an example

You don't want to be in the ground out in the middle for 8 hours a day for the rest of your life.

Umpiring job isn't lucrative and not high profile. Plus you need to be standing for countless hours and you are prone to be criticized for howlers.
