Why don't we see Pakistani batsmen try out ramp shots during matches?

Wade's shots against Afridi didn't seem fluke , Im sure he has practiced it in nets facing Starc and it proved to be match winning at the end..

Why dont we see similar shots being played by Pak batsmen? Only Imad Waseem tries it and that too he fails to connect most of the times...

One word - Misbah ul Haq. Still can't get over that shot he played in the final :misbah3

Of course those shots are practiced. Have you been living under a rock since 2010 or something even asking that question?

Watch any videos showing IPL teams practicing over the last 6-7 years and you'll see range hitting & practicing switch hits & scoops etc is pretty much what the batsmen do these days... it's weird you didn't know that's fairly standard.

Because of a backward, out dated net training session as Mathew Hayden has identified and outdated backward coaching in domestic cricket and the NCA

With due respect...I dont follow IPL my friend. I dont live under a Rock as you asked, and thanks for clarification..

We are paying huge amounts of money to all these coaches and i dont get it why unique/unorthodox shots cannot be embedded into the trainings..in crunch matches sometimes these can be the saviour..I mean im simply in awe of how Wade guided those balls perfectly for 6s

You're welcome, and for the record it's not only IPL, it's basically all professional T20 competitions these days.

Batting consultants are not going to suddenly ask players to try out shots they are not comfortable with in a World Cup!

If a batter can do this already and needs help in refining it, I can understand Hayden advising him to do that.

Haha don’t remind me, good point, I don’t want to see any match ending shots like that again. Also someone mentioned here about imad wasim trying this, I believe he failed every time in one of these matches and then got out trying to play that shot and missing.

I think the bigger concern is inability to dominate spinners. Apart from Malik and Hafiz none of the young batters do it

Because the last time a batsmen did this, he was critisize to the ends of it.

Ramp and scoop shots are tricky. Either you will get the boundary or you wont.

You dont play ramp shot just for the sake of it. You have to see first whether fine leg is in the circle or not. Misbah played that shot because fine leg was in the circle.

Wade played it because of Shaheen being a poor bowler who cant set the right field and our captain babar azam being a joke. Everyone knows wade plays the ramp shot and yet we have no fine leg out of circle. Even after the first 6 the fine leg was not placed near boundary

Thus, most of the times you will find teams placing a fielder there

Because to execute those shots you need to practice.

To practice those shots, you need to be willing to take risks.

You need to be willing to look foolish when they do not come off nicely.

Our players have too many issues regarding their selection to do stupid things.

Just take a look at how we bashed Imad for trying the reverse scoop and failing. He looked horrible whilst doing it, but the idea was right.

The second reason is more technical. The only reason why Glenn Maxwell can dispatch spinners across both sides of the field is that his foot movement is sublime.

Apart from Mohammad Rizwan, none of our batsmen know how to use their feet to manipulate the field.

There is your answer.

We don't have any 360" players a la Eng and Aus hitters. We do need to practice and utilise the full range of shots though. This will help in the acceleration and neutralise the yorkers at the death.

If we're going to compete, need to implement these changes for our next generation batters in white ball cricket.

Sheer audacity. I am still surprised that wade could play 2 ramp shots back to back. Does it say about batsmen ability to execute the shot or bowler inability to prevent that shot ?

Misbah already try this shot on the biggest occasion of india - Pakistan WT20 final and rest is history .:wy

every time a Pakistani player thinks of the ramp shot a pic of Misbah appears .. the rest is history ps Imad tries it & he’s so pathetic at it , M Wasim “the lad should’ve been in for Hassan” plays the shot very well , We need to tie down Hayden on contract & drum into the team some Darings & Audacity, the way he did in his playing days

Hafeez also plays the ramp shot of sorts though he's cut down on it in recent years. Our batting culture though does lack inventiveness, even the reverse sweep is rarely seen.

It's a tricky and very difficult shot and should only be played once perfected during practice and it isn't easy to practice. Actually I haven't seen any of our players play switch hit or reverse hits either. Younis used switch hit at times during his later career. Coaching is mainly done at junior level and when a player is 15-20. We don't have many good and qualified coaches to work on skills and technical aspects of batting at junior level. There is not much system and money on the grass root or even domestic level either. The best we can see right now is development of emerging talent through NHPC program. Young players should be called up to NHPC and should be encouraged to go and seek help there.

I was surpised to see Fakhar not play it against Starc as like Shaheen he was trying to bowl yorker after yorker.

In my opinion the ramp shot is totally against the game of cricket, I hate it!

Without the ramp shot fast yorker bowlers would have it too much their own way. Now they have to use their brain and many fall short. Shaheen great performance in tournament but at the crunch should have thought on his feet.
