Why is Babar Azam so underrated (outside Pakistan)?

I agree that he needs to challenged. He has the soul of a 35 year old; needs to learn from the way Hasan and Shadab approach the game. I don’t think dropping him is the answer, but perhaps it can help in the short run.

Nonetheless, something has to change.
Jolt to the system with Haris batting out there at 3, and him carrying Gatorades will do a world of good. Fair enough he is batting under pressure, but if this is his answer to pressure every game, much rather pick someone else and teach this guy the value of a place in the Pakistan cricket team.

For someone who has allready broken so many records in such a short career,Ranks no 4 in the odi ranking, holds an impressive average of 58,is so consistent And is aleady the best batsman in his side(ODI)He is really underrated
What are your views?

I hope you get the answer!

I am not in the mood of taking prisoners so I will be honest about my assessment of Babar. .

I think your assessment of Babar is harsh but seems correct, and your prediction may end up being true.

If you don't mind sharing your thoughts, I'm curious what your assessment of the current ODI lot of youngsters is.

What do you make of Trent Boult or Kane Williamson for example? Aside from the obvious greats [Rabada, Starc, Kohli, Smith etc], any non-obvious candidates to watch out for who will blow us away in 2018 and onwards?

This is becoming unforgivable for him. Soft runs against Eng and now this. Barely contributed in CT.

I love watching Boult bowl. For me, he is the greatest left-arm fast bowler along side Starc since the days of Wasim. He is heading for greatness.

Williamson is a top class batsman, but at times, he holds this NZ side back with his one-paced batting. Nonetheless, he is an important cog of the team and scores consistently and heavily.

We touring England in early May, so a whitewash is on the cards. Our batsmen will be sitting ducks in those conditions because the ball will swing. I don't know about the non-obvious candidates because I don't think England will make wholesale changes to their Test squad, but I think the chief tormenter will be James Anderson once again.

Golden boy has been absolute rubbish on this tour and his dismissal yesterday was awful. Just got on the front foot and had a wild swing at a ball well outside offstump, never near the pitch of it.

He may have a lot of potential but he shouldn't get a free pass.

Need to get him back to UAE playing soft teams like W.I and S.L so he can score slow hundreds for personal milestones.

Hopefully this tour gives him a kick up the backside.

Thanks for your thougths.

With NZ right now and England in the summer in mind, I was going to say that we're the new SL, but even the current SL is better than this lot.

How the mighty fall. CT champions to this.

Don't worry we will rise again in time for the WC inshaAllah

I have not seen him play in NZ series but from what I have seen, he is definitely pretty good for a 23-year old. And fans need to be patient, he is young and he will learn. Probably won't be a Root or Virat, but can be a very good LOI player.

I am afraid he is turning into a "Akmal", Starts off as Bradman but finishes as Anderson. For his own good he needs to be dropped in order for him not to lose any confidence left within him. He can and probably will come good but needs time away from International Cricket. His talent would be a sad thing to waste...

He's Mickey's favourite even though he's a tailender outside UAE. Should be dropped for a long time.

A character of a batsman is tested in adverse times, so far Babar has failed the test miserably. His strike rate and lack of will to counterpunch has been a contributing factor.

0, 10, 8, 3, 10.

I don't buy into this rubbish how he is only 23 years old. He has played 40+ ODIs and this is his second tour of NZ; he should have been performing far better than this.

Don't lose hope guys, He still have 50+ average and a few more Sri Lankan or windies teams tours in UAE and he will regain his lost mojo.

If he only finds his mojo against Lanka and Windies who're certified minnows now, his legacy will be hurt badly

I think he should be opening because we have literally tried 6-7 different opening combos in the last 15 or so matches.

Worst batsman on tour after Azhar Ali.... But the golden boy cannot be criticized.

Haris Sohail came off the bench and smashed two fifties in two matches, but Mr. Consistent here continued to consistently look like a fish out of water.
