In meaningless bilateral series where nobody really gives a toss about results why are we so scared of making changes. We don’t we give a chance to young blood. Really disappointed!!!

I hope we loose the next 2 ODIs against NZ. This think tank needs to go.

Agreed

Why is there no replacement wicket keeper in the white ball squads for the past 2-3 years or so?

This is not a meaningless series. Its an ODI series in Asia against the top-ranked ODI team, during a World Cup year. It is one of the best place to gauge your World Cup hopefuls.

What's the point of giving young blood a chance when they won't even play in the World Cup? I don't see the point in trying out 50 different players like India, when 15 will be selected for the World Cup, and another 5 will likely be in the mix for those spots.

All you have to do is look at some of the posters here. All so scared of change, it’s a microcosm of what other Pakistanis think.

Very sad state of affairs

It is not a meaningless series

There are 2-3 T20 leagues going on around the world where these Kiwi first team players would happily be. Instead they are taking the opportunity to acclimatise in the sub continent.

Dude

we have not tried a different opening combination in T20 for nearly 3 years

can you imagine?

This is the mindset which fails us.

Every year there will be a World event year. Some years you will have ODI WC, some years there will be a T20 WC, some year there will be a Champions Trophy.

The point of giving someone like Tayyab and Kamran a chance is to see if they can replace old cars like Haris Sohail and Co when they eventually break down.

Pakistan only has a few guaranteed names in white ball. Everyone else is on thin ice.

The same Haris Sohail who who came back into the ODI side and scored 32 off 24 in the last game?

I understand you point. But this is not the time to try guys out. There are only a handful of ODIs between now and the World Cup. Better to use them to pin down your best 15 rather than waste time experimenting with guys that you could experiment with when the World Cup is over.

Who is on thin ice? Fakhar, Imam, Babar, Shadab, Nawaz, Rauf, Shaheen, Naseem, Wasim are all guaranteed names. Rizwan and Haris Sohail are pretty much guaranteed aswell barring the chief-selector losing his mind.

Actually, its this mindset which why we can't move forward. Posters such as yourself here think that introducing young players is the only way to progress. When progress is built on consistency. If new players are introduced every series how will anyone get a chance to establish themselves? Pakistan has won 9 of their last 10 ODIs and are ranked 4 in the world. Surely they must be doing something right.

But yeah, I guess we should replace the "old car" who averages 46 in ODIs and is one of the best players of spin in the team....during a world cup year, with a guy who had one good season in domestic cricket.

Yup even in dead rubbers and prep series.

A lot of our fans deserve this mediocrity.

Mediocre fans, mediocre captain, mediocre management. As a result, the team is happy with mediocrity.

Yep a blistering 32 on a flat deck where he failed to finish the game due to his fitness issues (again!) If this is not the time for experiment, then there will never be a time for experiment.

We had 4 years to experiment, the likes of Tayyab Tahir, Usama Mir and Kamran Ghulam should’ve been on the tour to NED and settled in the team.

Also, you’re only looking at it from a fan’s perspective. You think this ODI series is meaningless for the captain/coach? The first thing on their minds would be to win the series then look to make changes in dead rubbers.

No coach or captain will look to experiment especially when their roles in the team are being heavily criticised.

No time for experiments now, only Pakistan need is settled squad and few wins before world cup

I don't know why you under the misconception that this is the 90s and the pitches in ODIs are sporting. Most pitches in ODIs are flat decks these days. So I don't get why you're bringing the pitch into this. Under the circumstances it was a great knock. He may not have hit the winning runs but he did finish the game off for all intents and purposes.

Also. the World Cup happens ever four years. It is much more important than a T20 World Cup and a CT and is by and far the most important tournament in world cricket. Pakistan had four years to experiment and for better or worse, this is the group of players they have ended up with. This is quite literally the last place to experiment.

We have also seen how well experimentations in the past during this same time have gone. Everyone remembers perfectly well how the 5 match ODI series against Australia in 2019 before the World Cup turned out for us.

There have already been plenty of changes with Usama Mir, Haris Sohail and Salman Ali Agha coming in.

Secondly, we do not really play ODIs enough to experiment too much. With the World Cup this year the players need to play games, get into rhythm. Selectors and the team management are giving full backing to the selected 11 players which is good to see. In this series the only players who I see could get a chance are Dahani or Hasnain. If we win today maybe Shan Masood.

Further on with the players selected I dont see many more changes happening. Only ones that will confirmed happen are Shadab and Shaheen.

The same XI will play next game and Pakistan will lose the series. We deserve this humiliation.

Even selectors don't feel any pressure where people are asking to bring back dead woods like Harris Sohail and even Shoaib Malik.

On the contrary there's too many changes going on. From up top the executives, which has trickled down to the playing XI.

7/8 players pick themselves in the ODI team and they were performing. However with the change in management I'm not sure if that's going to be the case.

And sarfaraz lol.
The guy who would demote himself to number 8 and 9 on his final LOI days

They made the changes:

Shan and Hasnain in.

What more do you want? :)
