Why is Salman Ali Agha considered a modern T20 hero compared to Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan?

Intentions and actions should be separated.

He has the right intention and has done well to try and steer the team without the rizbar legacy and to try and imprint his own style on the team.

However his captaincy was lacking against India and worse still his own performance is quite poor. He is too timid to bat, and doesn't trust himself to bowl. You add in some crazy captaincy and misread of conditions and he was a complete liability.

We are not West Indies who had team full of superstars and could accommodate a specialist captain like Sammy.

Agha needs to get his act together and turn those good intentions into some good actions.

It doesn't have to be Agha or Babar/Rizwan. Aknowledgement of his faults doesn't mean you want Rizwan/Babar back in the side automatically. He is in thee squad so his place will be scrutinized.

Same size is small . He already lost a T20 series with Bangladesh, Back to back matches against India , lost a series with NZ second string Team, Lost the match against Westindies, Afghanistan.

Forget about his captaincy he doens't even deserve a place in T20 team

Rizbar strike rate is the problem unlike agha himself. All three have captaincy issues. As Ian chappel says pick the best eleven then captain among them.

Now you are saying the sample size is small. You're shifting the goalposts again.

You are pointing out that Pakistan under Agha, lost one T20I match against the West Indies, but you must also understand that under Rizwan, they lost an ODI series. This was Pakistan's first ODI series loss against the WI in 3 decades. That loss was bigger than anything Pakistan suffered under Salman Agha in the T20Is.

The overall record of Pakistan in 2025:

In T20Is: 13 wins & 10 losses

In ODIs: 2 wins & 9 losses

What do you make of this?

Under Rizwan they won ODI series in australia and South Africa. Rizwan is first Pakistan captain to win Away Series in Those country :klopp :kp

Lost 4-1 against second string NZ team

Lost 2-1 against Bangladesh ( LMAO)

Lost the match against Afghanistan, Westindies.

Lost the back to back matches against India.

This is fine for most SENA countries but usually not the case for Pakistan. There is often an education disparity where the best player may not have the best cricket IQ ( or IQ in general), and the captain is usually picked separately. Using the Windies example again, they picked a one-legged Darren Sammy because he could unite the team and let the other players express themselves.

Not every country can have the same system. Pakistan needs to have a system that works for it.

But from Aghas perspective he definitley needs to improve his performance to stamp his authority on the team. He must come up the order and bat with intent, and also bowl a few overs each match.

They have created their own happiness where an 80 SR tuk tuk captain is an improvement over Babar and Rizwan.

Now they are talking about his intentions as if this is Islam not cricket. He can go to heaven with his good intentions but it’s not going to win you cricket matches unless that intention is converted into actions and he doesn’t have the talent for it.

and then lost triseries at home, winless campaign in the CT, whitewashed vs NZ 2nd string in ODIs, lost series vs WI

Chewing gum aura is good but you have to back it up with performances. Agha is a talentless failure but SKY is a class T20 player but currently distracted with all the controversies and captaincy pressure.

He needs to start delivering with the bat again because he is 35 and India have many capable batsmen sitting outside. He can lose his spot in the next 6 months. BCCI are planning to to make Gill all-format captain anyway.

Sky decline is already started. He is becoming weak link for india both with captaincy and batting. :kp

As a primary requirement, a team should have captain who really can be picked as a player. If it doesn't work for a middle/near bottom tier team, captaincy has to be as good as of Mike brearly/sammy/Imran.if no one else apart from agha is providing support to the current t20 ideology, then its quite bad.At this point of time , its looking who will do less damage to the team than benefiting pak.quite a tough time for pak team now.if anything goes wrong, they will see themselves along with bng,wi.

On merit it could be Shaheen. He is out of form but is probably our best t20 player, however, after he was ousted I dont think Naqvi will go back to him. Or Shadab Khan, again he is injured and out of form.

Our stocks are very low at the moment everywhere else. There is no leadership material. Same in the test team where we have to get Shan Masood even though he doesn't deserve a place in XI.

Agha is a fighter and can come good, but he needs to back himself to perform, not shy away from tough situation. If the captain doesn't have confidence in himself, then nobody else will. Lack of personal performance will also cloud his captaincy.

Agha was always a stop-gap solution, as the PCB was not comfortable making Shadab captain at the time. He was always going to be replaced but unfortunately Shadab got injured.

I want pak to try someone young similar to sa's grame smith selection.I see Saim, Abrar , Hasan but not sure about their mental fortitude.pak should pick a long race horse .picking shaheen even though he was pushed out unreasonably may trigger hopes of all failed captains again.
 
He used to be more fluent with the bat but is clearly crumbling under pressure now as he can't manage either the batting or captaincy decisions. Will need character and some luck to take Pakistan through to the final of the Asia Cup. That wouldn't be a bad result for him.

Alright, I will stick with T20Is only. Salman Agha has been the permanent captain since the NZ tour.

Pakistan played 4 bilaterals, winning 2 and losing 2. They then won a tri-series. They haven't had a great Asia Cup campaign so far. Overall, the team’s performance has been average. Salman Agha’s individual performances have also been below par. However, he has 2-3 matches to turn things around, both as a captain and as a player. If Pakistan fails to qualify for the Asia Cup, they must make a few changes in their batting line up, including a change of captain.

However, it’s also important to note that they weren’t performing better in the past year. Rizwan has a W-L record of 0-4 in T20Is. In 2024, Pakistan won 9 and lost 17 games. Additionally, the individual performances of Babar and Rizwan were below par. So, it’s not like Babar and Rizwan have been wronged.
 
Rizwan walks into the team as both captain and keeper. Haris is not good enough.

Have a feeling Rizwan will lead the side in WT20 for Pak. There is no other alternative: Shaheen comes with too much baggage. Past failure, his own form and being a fast bowler will be injury prone.

Had a good CPL. Has kept well and very active part of the management team

I don't want Babar or Rizwan to return to the team until they can show they are capable of not playing selfish innings' for once.

But this team is not walking the talk. The stats for the likes of Farhan and Agha paint a very sad picture. This team, with all the talk about fearless attitude, is being blasted on every neutral ground for playing too slow once again.
 
Is there a single person on this forum who’s willing to look at Babar and Rizwan as two separate players?

They have different ceilings, different profiles, and in Babar’s case actual services to Pak cricket. They should also have different pathways back into the team as applicable. Any treatment of Babar and Rizwan with a single stroke is unfair and lazy. This should not even be a thing.
