Why is the Pakistan football team so poor?

Etzaz, I believe played for Molde. The rest I think play in division 2 (4 th league in the English league system).

For the level of SAFF and AFC, they will be very good. They could at least help in Pakistan qualifying for the Asian Championship. For comparison, Baichung Bhutia one of Indias greatest strikers played for a team in the 3rd league system of English football in the 90s.

For current clubs they are playing for you can see my comment above.

This squad is 100% good enough to qualify Pakistan for AFC Asian Cup in 2027. If we can get Mohammed Fazal and Ole Saeter it would on paper be the strongest team in South Asia.

Ole Sæter? How does he qualify?

Sad the forum is closing down. I like your interested in Pakistani football and would have like to discuss things with you on this topic as I used to be an active member many many years ago on the footballpakistan.com forums, but felt no one else showed interested so I stopped following.

I looked it up. Apparently his mothers father is a Pakistani, but he has never met him, has no connection with Pakistan and has categorically said that he does not want to play for Pakistan.

Pakistan are ranked 195 in FIFA rankings and Pakistan play a very rigid formation of 5-3-2

Could have been 1-1 but we missed some chances. We need to test the goalkeeper more. We were supposed to lose 6-0 vs Kenya. Fought till the last minute. Great effort from Pakistan. The future looks bright.
Alhamdulillah...

That is old news I think. Shayan Obaid Alexander is a good source for Pakistani football. Watch this video from 27:45 to 29:00.

Also I think Ole Sæter knowns deep down that he is not going to be selected for Norway. Erling Håland, Alexander Sørloth and Joshua King are all ahead of him.

Pakistan men’s football team on Monday, received the Visas to participate in the upcoming South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Championship in India, scheduled to take place from June 21 to July 4.

According to the details, the Indian High Commissioner in Mauritius issued the Visas to the Pakistan football team, which will now travel to India via the first available flight.

Notably, the Pakistan team received a two-day delay in the issuance of the Visas due to which they could not depart for Bengaluru as per schedule on Sunday.

Pakistan will start their SAFF Championship campaign against arch-rivals India on June 21 before taking on Nepal and invitee Kuwait.

Notably, the Pakistan football team are currently in Mauritius where they participated in the four-nation tournament.

The national team failed to impress in the four-nation tournament as they remained winless in the entire competition, losing to Mauritius, Kenya and Djibouti respectively.

After concluding their campaign in the four-nation tournament, the Pakistan men’s football team will mark their return to the SAFF Championship after missing the last two out of the 13 editions held since 1993.

The Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) could not send its men’s team for the 2015 edition held in India due to the lack of funds.

The national side then missed the 2021 edition as they were serving a suspension from FIFA, which was lifted last year in June.

Sri Lanka will not be participating in the tournament as they are serving a suspension from the football governing body FIFA, while Afghanistan left SAFF and joined the Central Asian Football Federation.

Well that's very good to hear! I used to follow Pakistani football a lot back in my childhood, and we always spoke about if ever "one of us" (Pakistani diaspora in Norway) would represent Pakistan. Very interesting move. There was another player who did play an international match for Norway and even scored a goal some years ago, but he got to play as our whole A team was rested for some reasons I don't remember. (I think they were unavailable due to covid-19 regulations and quarantine rules at that time?)

Unluckily we did not win that game. If we had, he would have become a hero as it would have helped us qualify for the Euro's I think.

Great news about the visa's! I have actually bookmarked the date for Pakistan vs India in my calendar! :)

Brother I am born and raised in Norway:) You are talking about Ghayas Zahid who played for "Nødlandslaget" due to covid restrictions for the main players.

He had a good season in the Turkish Super Lig, but got ignored by Solbakken again. My opinion was that he should have waited and made his debut for Pakistan instead. He is not going to get play time for Norway now. Imagine a Pakistani midfield with Adil Nabi, Etzaz Hussain and Ghayas Zahid? Damn....

Pakistani footballer turns jalebi seller due to financial hardships

Muhammad Riaz, a Pakistani footballer and Asian Games hero, has been forced to sell jalebis at a roadside stall due to severe financial difficulties.

Riaz’s life took a drastic turn, from playing football to now selling the sweet treat.

He expressed frustration over the failure of the government’s promised revival of departmental sports, which left him with no source of income.

After years of waiting for a change that never materialized, Riaz had no choice but to find an honest way to provide for his family.

In a heartfelt appeal, Riaz urged the government to restore departmental sports, questioning whether this was the fate of national heroes.

His story underscores the challenges faced by Pakistani sports stars—excluding cricketers—who often struggle with financial insecurity and limited job opportunities after their athletic careers.

Muhammad Riaz’s heart-wrenching tale has gone viral, sparking widespread outrage and sadness.

Many are now calling for the government to step in and support national heroes like Riaz by restoring departmental sports and offering them the support they deserve.

PFF appoints Nolberto Solano as Pakistan head coach

In a bid to strengthen its national squads, the Pakistan Football Federation has named Nolberto Solano as head coach and Jorge Castañeira as his assistant for both the senior and under-23 teams.

"Under President Mohsen Gilani’s leadership, PFF proudly welcomes Nolberto Solano as Head Coach of Pakistan U23 with a pathway to the senior team," said PFF in a short announcement.

The decision was finalised after a vote by the PFF Executive Committee, where seven out of 13 members approved the appointments. While the move signals a fresh direction for Pakistani football, it was not without dissent, as six committee members opposed the decision.

Nolberto Solano, a 48-year-old Peruvian, brings a wealth of experience to the role, both as a former top-level player and an accomplished coach.

He holds a prestigious Fifa CONMEBOL Pro Licence and has been involved in high-profile international competitions, including serving as an assistant coach for Peru during the 2018 Fifa World Cup in Russia and the 2022 World Cup qualifiers. His leadership was also instrumental in Peru’s impressive fourth-place finish at the 2021 Copa America.

@Geordie Ahmed Nobby is a manager?

Absolutely love Nobby but his managerial career has been very, very underwhelming

Lately he's just hopped from one job to another

Be surprised if he's still the coach in 6 months time

Thanks. But I assume Pakistan have never had such a high profile manager(with a name/history). Nobby having a lot of contacts in the UK may be able to convince some young Brit Paks to join.
