Why isn't Mohammad Nawaz being considered for the ICC T20 World Cup matches so far?

I find it astonishing to see a genuine spinner who has a great record in the UAE not being considered for low, slow pitches that should ideally suit his style of bowling.

Surely he is more of a threat than the overrated Shadab Khan? He is more economical and reliable atleast. I also prefer him as a batting option over Shadab on low, slow pitches.

Pakistan do not like to experiment. Once they get comfortable they’ll stay there until wits end at which point they’ll throw someone like Nawaz into the pressure cooker. Shadab has a somewhat undroppable position due to his vice captaincy, and I doubt Babar would drop him at this point. I agree that he’s a much better option than Shadab at this point as a bowler, just as good of a fielder and it’s a toss up when it comes to batting.

Zero idea why.

Was kept on the sidelines for both the England and West Indies series even though he did an outstanding job in South Africa.

Also outperformed Imad and Superstar Khan both in bat and ball in the national T20 and yet still on the sideline.

Guess it's just Pakistan cricket being Pakistan cricket

Misbah said other day Imad and Nawaz are competing for the same spot. And Imad is proven in UAE.

Is it absolutely necessary to have both leg and off spinners? Why not play two quality off spinners in Imad and Nawaz, and drop the unreliable Shadab?

Misbah mentioned on TV the other day how Pakistani fans always care about who is not in the team, rather than who is in it. And it couldn't be more true.

Nawaz is a good cricketer, but is he a better option than Imad? Who has a proven track-record of success on the international level and has also been a better batsman than Nawaz.

Shadab's form may be up and down but he is the best limited-overs leg-spinner we have. The best fielder we have. Someone who can bat. Plus, in those conditions, there's no telling what a leg-spinner can do. And playing a diverse attack of a left-arm spinner, a leg-spinner and an off-spinner makes much more sense than going with two left-arm spinners: both of whom are similar in regards to how little they turn the ball.

Unless Shadab goes through a horrific run of form in the tournament, I don't see how he gets dropped. We've invested years in him and now its time to give him the proper opportunity to shine. If he goes through that horrific run of form then that's a worse case scenario and you go with Nawaz. But otherwise it does not make logical sense for Nawaz to replace Shadab or Imad; both bowers who aren't just better bowlers than him, but have also found more success in these conditions for Pakistan than him.

Also, if you think Nawaz is a genuine spinner than you need to start watching a little more carefully.

Nawaz is between Jadeja and Imad in-terms of spin. Father away from Imad and closer to Jadeja, but usually relies on the the same thing i.e. accuracy rather than spin that those other two rely on.

Long way to go - Pak management will go with the side they trust for now.

Pakistan usually try out new players only after losing the first 2 games.

Nawaz is competing with Imad Shadab will play unless he had a horrendous couple games

Its Nawaz vs Imad and I want Nawaz to surprise opposition, pitches suits him as the ball is breaking too much, very handy with batting ability, quick between the wickets and can accelerate if required Runrate climbs up :dhoni

I would have personally played him in place of Asif.

He can bat and will contribute just as much as asif with the bat, so it wouldn't have made a difference to the batting.

His bowling is better than shadab as well and maybe even better than Imad, hence only logical to play him.

As can be seen Babar thrives on a safety first approach like most recent pakistani captains and coaches

This usually means picking experience, familiar players and those that have been in and around the team over the last few years In his mind it gives him a perceived comfort blanket Some intnl experience to fall bsck on Hes another that puts short term wins over long term success

It doesnt matter that others on the bench are actually better

Why else would the likes of hafeez malik, shadab etc be in the team with zero performances lately

It’s hilarious to see the demand for such players and outcry, he isn’t exactly a vast improvement over who is expected to be selected in the playing XI, everyone is around about the same level really.

Because has beens like hafeez malik and asif butler keep hogging spots in the team.

Nawaz is an underrated cricketer has more ability than shadab and imad wasim who looks immobile at best because he has big fat thighs and backside no way athletic as shadab or nawaz.

I came here to write this but the thread is already created. Thanks OP
Nawaz is a better option in any circumstances in all facets of the game. Much better spinner and canny bowler. Much improved batsman and defo a better fielder.
I would also like the either one of Asif or Malik to sit out for Haider.

Babar
Rizwan
Fakhar
Haider
Asif/Malik
Hafeez
Nawaz
Shadab unfortunately and the pacers
Hafeez has to come in after the 12th over.

Its probably best he doesn't play against India. Let Imad get butchered by them and then bring Nawaz in.

The situation seems to be that it's Nawaz v Imad.

But really it should be Nawaz v Shadab.

Why not play 2 left-arm spinners.
