Why make young debutants face the first ball of the game?

Young guys who are new to New Zealand conditions, they have not faced Tim Southee before and you make them face the first over with the score at 0.

Surely Rizwan could take the first over and take the pressure off the debutant and put it back on the other team?

If you're playing the role of pinch hitter you are there to get your team going from ball 1.

I know it didn't look it but that was probably Haseebullah's role today.

That is something that can have both positive and negative sides. Positive in the sense that you are trying to give confidence to the new guy that you have earned your place and it is your time to go out there and make a name for yourself. Negative in the sense that conditions in New Zealand and Australia and in almost all SENA are so difficult that you cannot put a youngster in front of a home side who has experienced bowling line up, it can go bad for them which it did as we have seen already.

To protect stat padding seniors who feels it’s their birthright to occupy top order.

Couldn’t even give Saim a full series while we’ve seen these 2 bums flail around with their run a ball 40s in the dead rubber games or Vs associates while their fans jump around in these games.

This is not even the issue. Issue is them playing Haseeb at open and Farhan in middle order and Fakhar in middle order.

They are debutants in international cricket not playing cricket for the first time so what's wrong if they face the first delivery?

To get them to play a few balls so they can take advantage of the PP. That's the role

I think it has more to do with their strategic role.

You want the aggressive partner to get maximum access to the PP deliveries.

The bigger question is why would you play a debutant out of position when it's unnecessary? For example, why was Farhan not opening in the last T20I over Haseebullah? The guy is a middle-order batsman in his domestic T20 team and Farhan has clearly said he prefers opening.

These are the real mistakes that hurt debutants.

If its your first game in international i would not make him take on the first ball.

So what’s the role of the other guy who has close to 90 matches?

When Rizwan and Babar used to open, Rizwan would always play ball 1. It always seemed like this was to protect Babar tho I always felt Babar was better off starting the inning as Rizwan is very jittery. But in this series, I was shocked as with Babar down, it seemed like Rizwan was being protected on the other end by the likes of these youngsters. I'd still rather Saim face ball 1 but it's weird that Rizwan took the backseat now of all times. Haseebullah absolutely had no place facing the first ball 1. Even if he's being used as a pinch hitter, he could still be that without facing the first ball

Haseebullah is not even a pinch hitter-type batsman. That's better off even being Rizwan's role with Haseebullah trying to find gaps and playing his natural flair game.

It was incompetence, cowardice or malice.

You can pick whatever you want but thats the only possible reasons.

why not? if a guy playing international cricket so he must have guts to face first delivery.

See what that youngster did on his 3rd delivery.

Sometimes it also depends on who is bowling the first over and from what end.
Southee usually swings it into the left-hander which would suit Haseeb and not suit Rizwan. I think this was the reason Haseeb faced ball 1

You are playing international cricket. If you don’t have the confidence and the courage to play the first ball even if it is your debut, you don’t belong at this level.

This is a complete non-issue. What if the experienced partner takes a single off the first ball and the debutant is on strike after 0.1 overs? How is that any different and how would that change anything?

What next? The experience partner shouldn’t rotate the strike in the first for to not expose the debuntant?

Pakistan cricket has a lot more serious and bigger issues that are worth discussing. Not this.

Makes perfect sense if you don't want to see that debutant in your team again.
And how would making the debutant face the first ball facilitate that and what would happen if the experienced partner takes a single off the first ball?

This is the difference between teams like Pakistan and Australia.

If youngsters were consistently made to face the first ball than you already know there would be an outcry against it but when we do it than so called "fans" will come up with 100 excuses trying to justify their favourites decision

Its not even anything to do with youngsters however. Just check PSL scorecards. For Multan Sultans you will always see Shan face the first ball over Rizwan or Saim face the first over Babar, why? Because both are mentally weak batsmen who must rely on someone else facing the first ball in order to get an idea of the pitch plus first ball always has a lot of pressure to it

oh the excuses are coming in.

So Saim AYub failed because Rizwan made him face the first ball......

If you cant playt hte first ball than maybe dont play international cricket.

Pakistani fans and there love for hyping up players that can hit 4ss and 6s

There is nothing wrong with it. As is said in my earlier post. It has both positive and negative sides, it is your choice to read it as 9 or 6.

You're seriously complaining over a professional cricketer having to face the first ball of the match on his debut? As Mamoon said what happens if Riz takes a single first ball? Facing the second ball of the match makes it better?

Frankly if your 'generational youngsters' are too nervous to face the first ball of the match please lower your expectations of them rather than blame everyone else.

The greatest scam is not the Pakistan cricket team. It's the Pakistan cricket fans.
