Why physical fitness is not prioritized for umpires?

In modern cricket, players undergo intense fitness programs, but we rarely talk about umpire fitness.

Given that umpires spend hours on their feet, deal with heat stress, and require sharp concentration, should the ICC introduce stricter fitness standards?

What are your thoughts on whether umpire fitness affects decision-making or performance?

Just came across a document - Umpires & Referees Department, PCB Level 1 Umpiring Course - 2021

According to that,
Umpiring is a tough job and can be physically very challenging, an umpire is required to stand
on the field for a full. It is very important that an umpire has to be physically fit. Physical fitness
tests will be taken to judge the fitness of an umpire:
Fitness of the umpire will be marked. Following physical tests will be taken:
a) Running 1 KM
b) Plank
c) Squats
d) Sit-ups
e) V-hold

They do train physically. Maybe not as much as players do, but umpires go through certain fitness procedures which enable them to stand for longer periods during cricket match.

More than that, their mindfulness matters since they have to make quick decisions while observing everything the second it happens.

Cricket is a sport where you can get away without good fitness.

Some examples:

Azam Khan
Rahkheem Cornwall
Rangana Hearth
Inzamam
Rohit Sharma
Akram Khan

its an interesting premise but i dont think therre is a direct link between physical fitness and their job, unlike referee in football or linesman who have to run up and down.

Agree.

Umpires don't have to move much in cricket.

We need a competent umpire in the middle. I wish I could ban DRS as it kills on much time in the game.

Without DRS, things can become more chaotic.

Most umpires are not very good at their jobs. So, DRS is needed.

I propose getting rid of human umpires and use AI/technology.
