Misbah won 26 tests as captain

Which Pakistan captain will surpass him?

Probably youngsta beauty iftikhar as long as misbah is around. Fans dont understand he is still young. He showed glimpses of his potential in a single t201 in austrailia but dont let the failures against zimbabwe fool you he will evntually he handed captaincy in the test format as well and will shine through his preformances.

But in all seriousness i dont see anybody beating it in the near future. If pakistan were still playing in uae babar might have had a chance becuz the pcb have shown faith in giving him the captaincy for a longer period than others but since cricket is returning to pakistan teams will find it easier to beat them at home.
Misbah built most of his record at the uae with him, younis, an inform azhar and an actually not that bad asad shafiq. Babar only has himself.

So, is he the second greatest Asian test captain only behind Kohli now?

To me, Misbah is the third most influential and impactful cricketers in Pakistan cricket history, only behind Sir Hanif Mohammad and Imran khan. The man who turned the tables for Pakistan during their biggest crisis and stood like a rock.

He is the most respected and admired Pakistani cricketer of this millennium in India. Afridi and Akhtar may be more loved for the Draamebaazi by the fans but for purists, none come close to what Misbah has done for the game and for Pakistan cricket. I still can't forget that day in 2007 WT20 finals when at one point commentators were literally shouting out, "Its Misbah Vs India now."

As a batsmen also, he is arguably the second most versatile batsmen of his generation. On one day, he would bat like de Villiers and hit a 56 ball hundred against the great Aussies and next day, he would bat like MS Dhoni. The guy is easily the most fittest Pakistani cricketer of all-time. He literally ran 10 miles every day at age of 43. This is the benchmark every Pakistani cricketer must follow and take this as inspiration from Misbah, particularly, the youngsters.

Despite what Misbah's mistakes have been as a chief selector, he truly served Pakistan during it's darkest time. He is an honorable gentleman, and regardless of what he did as a chief selector, I think a lot of people will still have high regard for the type of player he was.

Pretty good question.

I think Misbah did well in perfecting the art of winning in UAE and in my opinion Pakistan had good resources for the conditions UAE had to offer in the last decade with batsmen who can dig in without worrying about SR and couple of spinners who can run through batting lineups during the climax of the matches.

So its going to be difficult for any upcoming skipper to create such a success recipe especially when cricket has almost shifted completely from UAE to Pakistan which changes the dynamics.

I think if Babar can play his cards well he can possibly challenge that but, as said its not gonna be easy for anyone as a lot of things need to fall into place. He will obviously require an extended run (7+ years) as test skipper which is only gonna be possible if PCB doesnt make any hasty decisions based upon a result or two. Big advantages which Babar has are that he has time on his side and there is no one good enough to challenge him unlike in 90s when a few powerful player brought in politics and regular change in captaincy took place. Babar by far is the best player in Pakistani lineup and irrespective of what caliber of new batsmen come in, his status in Pakistan cricket as batsmen is pretty much secured for a decade or so. This ticks another important box (Pressure of justifying own place) along with the fact that he has earned this sort of security at the young age of 26 which gives him a lot of roam to further improve as player as well as leader.

Going forward one thing cricket fans need to realize that is dynamics are going to be quite different for the upcoming Pakistani skipper when it comes to home series (Important aspect to get those wins for almost all teams). UAE is almost out of the picture now with cricket back in Pakistan so the circumstances are going to quite different when it comes to conditions for test cricket. If prepared well there is much more variety when it comes to the type of wickets as well as decent help for pacers and as well as dynamic batsmen who like to play some shots with wickets generally offering considerably more pace than UAE. So that can require a different type as well as range of weaponry which was needed in UAE.

Srl and BD series showed decent glimpses that pacers can do the dominant role in bowling on some surfaces which Pakistan will have to offer which brings in a completely different aspect from Misbah's era. Will the Pak team management and curators have enough capacity to maybe try to change wickets as per oppositions and their own strengths is something we will have to see.

Thus with cricket in Pakistan there is lot more flexibility and possibilities which in paper look good but the success will depend upon how well any Pakistani captain and management use that. Babar is 26, has a secure place, not much competition and a lot of years to look forward so as said I think he will have one of the better opportunities to challenge Misbah's record but definitely is going to be a tough milestone to come close to or surpass.

Babar will do it. The era of Abdullah Omair Saud Babar Haider Rizwan Shaheen Arshad Naseem/ Ali Shafique/ Shahnawaz

We’re gonna have a team that can win home and away. Just need the right guys picked and not these 35 year olds like Abid Fawad Azhar Asad

Misbah won like 18/19 Tests and led probably in 45+ Tests. First target should be to find a captain to lead for 50 Tests - at PCB’s rate it’ll take around 7 years. Then comes the captain to survive 7 years on that hot seat from constant criticism of PAK cricket pundits & fans who has delusional expectations from the team. Finally, he has to win 20 Tests out of those 50.

I hope, I’ll see that in my life time.

:)
We, the fans, romanticize.

That said, from a tactical POV Misbah Ul Haq was a solid captain, the man understood his "home conditions" very well and maximized results with limited resources in the darkest era of Pak cricket. He will always have my respect and admiration.

Coming to OP, Babar can do it. Although, Yasir is declining but he can still give us some match-winning performances in "home" tests. Shaheen also has the x factor to win games. PCB must remain patient with Babar Azam and the XI and find a couple of spinners asap. Unfortunately, Shadab is not a test player, although I'd be so happy to be proven wrong.

We also need to play Saud in tests and develop him into a top class batsmen if we want to succeed in tests. Along with finding some spinners.

For those saying Misbah was a UAE bully, only half of his wins (13 out of 26) are in UAE. 13 are away. I think out of Asian captains he has the most number of away wins along with Kohli.

All he would need a genuine chucker and play all matches in Dubai, the way Misbah did .

Misbah actually won 26 out of 56 matches he captained, not 18/19. Had series wins against every team he played, except South Africa.

Only 5-6 of Misbah's wins came, when he had Saeed Ajmal. Plus he won a series in New Zealand and West Indies. Also drew 2-2 in England. So its not just that he was an Asia or a Dubai legend.

We don't know who the future captains will be. And look at how many games Misbah was in charge for. Pakistan don't play many tests so I think it's unlikely someone will get close to his record due to the amount of tests we play and more importantly Pakistan lacking quality to win test matches consistently against top teams.

In 2016 in England, Misbah gave his haters a taste of their own medicine by smashing a match winning hundred at age of 40 and followed it with a push-up. This, to me, has to be one of the special moments of Pakistan cricket in last decade.

He was by no means a UAE bully.

Sorry, Misbah had two , not one "match winning" chuckers, one was banned for life and other banned again and again , a hundred times. But they won a large number of matches in UAE for Misbah. If that was not cheating and corruption , what was it ??

3rd

Dhoni has 27

And yes, Misbah's record away was not poor at all.

I have noticed it later - that sets the target at 27 Test wins. At current state, it'll take at least 80 Tests, that's about 10-12 years charge.

Why? Don't you want Pakistan team to have a better future?

You exposed him bro!!!! This guy is an idol worshiper. Just like people used to worship Tendulqar when he used to play for his hundred rather than winning.
These guys are not real supporter of any country because they don't understand team/country.
These are seasonal fans not permanent.

hope it never breaks

You should be banned in this forum for cursing/hoping bad for your team. You were never a proper fan and only support team because of a player you worship. You were never true Pakistan team fan because you don't have any passion or love for your team.
