What's new

Will Australia stop inviting Pakistan for summer tours?

Big 3 should just play each other and forget the rest. Make them all 9 test series to fill the schedule.
Point is Test series should be a legacy, unstructured format which should be played only when there is space in the calendar and for teams that actually want to play and can make it profitable.

There's no point enforcing it through something like the WTC.

Just leave it up to the individual boards to determine who and how much they want to play of this format.

CSA has apparently been in a loss position for the past 2 years but this one Indian tour is going to provide them $55 million and will wipe out these losses in one stroke.

That is for the entire tour. Notice how the Test matches have been cut down to 2 even for this tour.

Could very well be the case that CSA are making much more money from the T20 and ODI legs.

I'm sure there'll be more discussion about limiting Test cricket outside the Big 3 nations after this series. However are the likes of PAK, SL, WI, and BD faring much better in the white-ball formats ?

Instead of further narrowing the scope of international cricket, shouldn't we look to revive the weaker nations to see more competitive and compelling bilateral series ?

ICC would go some way to achieve this by doing the following:

1) Introduce cost-saving and cost-sharing measures so poorer boards can limit the losses of hosting series. Why must teams always stay in 5* hotels ?

2) Sanctions boards guilty of political interference.

3) Create a committee that specifically oversees cricket infrastructure, and set aside funds (only if boards meet good governance criteria) for improvement. There's massive variance in facilities between the richer and poorer nations. For instance, Dwayne Bravo recently said the Queens Park Oval ground in Trinidad hasn't changed since the 90s. Even a B stadium in India has better practice wickets, changing areas etc.

4) Introduce windows for T20 leagues to ensure the best players can both remain available as much as reasonably possible for national duty and also support their incomes by playing for franchises.

Otherwise we're headed down a road where cricket T20 franchises like football clubs will be the primary master of players who will occasionally be released to their countries with internationals having zero relevance outside tournaments.

Tests are not the format to revive international bilateral cricket.

The international calendar should be structured around the ODI format.

It's a hugely popular format as evidenced in the recent broadcast numbers for the ODI World Cup and you need teams playing bilateral ODIs since there are no leagues and most players don't play List A.

16-0 now. Only 5 more to go before Undertakers 21-0 Wrestlemania streak is equalled.

16 test loss on Trott ,this is some record . MCG test was perfect apportunity to break the losing records but they failed

Has to be the most humiliated rivalry in Test cricket , Australia remains 16-0 in Australia, where is Michael Coleman and JR

What is the record of Most consecutive defeats of a team in test cricket away from home against a team ? Anyone lost more than 16 test

Every test-playing nation deserves a chance to play overseas. Whether it is India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka or Bangladesh. A team can perform poorly but it does not mean that they should not play tests.

It’s not all doom and gloom in my opinion. Pakistan were fairly close in this Test and lost on a couple of key moments only. If they can improve about 5% in the final game, then they can win it.

SCG is the best chance for Pakistan. Pitch will suit the batting style of Pakistan. They can go big. Even MCG is suitable. Azhar Ali made 205 at the MCG. SCG will be even better.

They should allow Pakistan to at least play their B and C teams like they do for the BCCI/India

Completely agree. If you remove the shocking record of the past 20 years or whatever in Aus and look at this series in isolation it's not too bad.

Absolutely correct — the only people who though Pakistan would win even one test are deluded optimists or kiddies with no understanding of the history of Pakistan in Australia (and raised on white ball cricket)

Teams that contained Inzamam, M Yousuf and Younis Khan got hammered — all three would have a claim to be in an All time Pak XI.

No one in this current side would have that accolade, yet they challenged.
Of course the score was always going to be 3-0, but they competed and did show some spirit.
Thats as much as can be expected.

One has to remember that the Aussie teams of the 90s and 00s were more formidable than this current unit. Border, Waugh brothers, McGrath, Gillespie, Warne and others were in a different league. To beat teams of that era was really a challenge.

I agree. Considering Pakistan were going into this series with a couple of their more established pace bowlers missing, I thought Pakistan were surprisingly competitive in this test, and built a decent base in their first innings of the 1st test as well before collapsing. There are signs that there's some fight in there, just needs better organisation and some brains in the management and selection side. Maybe Hafeez can provide that.
