Will Australian batting [magically] improve when David Warner and Steve Smith return?

How is it magic?? Any team will struggle when 2 of their best batsmen are taken out?? Take out Rohit and Kohli. Babar and Fakhar. Etc.

For a side with the kind of structure they have, 2 batsmen cannot make such a huge difference for so long. Maybe one or 2 games .

One big victory over Ind or Eng (after smith+warner inclusion) in the upcoming ashes will set things right - especially in a test match. As Aus love test match cricket. The mental repercussion of the ban was a bit too much. And selecting marsh brothers, who are woefully out of form etc is another thing. Overall, I used to think selection partiality exists only in the sub continental teams. It seems now a days the things are going the other way round. Aus cricket board making mistake after mistake. Asian selections better than before with a * (indicates selection of dead wood of India)

Simple answer is yes. Take out kohli and Rohit and India will no longer be the power house it is.

Smith and warner are the backbone of the side. However I don’t think it’s their exclusion that’s solely responsible for the passive decline.

I think the dressing room culture and aura has been massively hurt. I feel things are not the way they used to be. Australia don’t seem to be united as one as they normally are. They are extremely low on confidence. Australia is a bully cricketing nation. They love to dish it out. However when on their own and without their boys they are sheep. That’s how things are now. The dressing room everyone is feeling sorry for them selves and are isolated and confidence ain’t their. Like bullies when they are groups they become high and mighty again as the artificial confidence returns.

Same will happen when smith and warner return. They would be the lions coming home ready to lead. The squad will be full of confidence again as their back home is back and so would the performances. Of course this is all pseudo science. However the mind is a mysterious organ. The placebo effect is strong and scientifically proven. Watch Australia roar again when the messiahs return.

Aussies were just kept afloat by these 2 for a good period before their ban. So in their absence, it is sinking.

Yes it will improve. They can handle the pressure of being the best batsmen and the other players will feel more comfortable with them in the line up.

This ban was OTT which I have said from day 1. Missing the IPL was more than enough punishment. Australia are the ones who are suffering right now . Smith and Warner value is just increasing everytime Australia have a batting nightmare.

60 all out v England at Trent Bridge.
85 all out v South Africa at Hobart.

Like in England, the Big Bash has pushed First Class Cricket to late spring and early autumn.

And young batsmen can’t cope with seam, swing or slip cordons.

I don't think India would struggle as much as the Aussies are.

We saw what Indian batting is sans Kohli in the Asia Cup. Take out Rohit Sharma and you still have someone like KL Rahul, nevermind someone like Prithvi Shaw.

Australia were good in ODIs till 2015 because they had 5-6 batsmen who were all performing regularly. Apart from Smith and Warner - Clarke, Watson, Bailey, Haddin and even Maxwell were all scoring runs.

Since then, Maxwell hasn't been able to maintain his form and Bailey has been surprisingly left out of the squads (even though he is probably the best batsman eligible to play for Australia at the moment).

Lynn has flattered to deceive and Darcy Short has been an absolute dud outside of the BBL.

Australia, even with Smith and Warner struggled throughout 2017 in ODIs. Their current state is magnified by their absence. But it is ultimately down to the lack of runs from everybody else.

Yes. It is not magic. But they are there best batsman. Similarly if we remove Kohli and Rohit. India will surely find it tough in the batting department.

It also may have to do with their old coach. Darren Lehmann.

Another point is the captain. When a captain performs the team performs.
