Who's gonna be there to guide/mentor him? Like others have said, I have never seen him play such a horrible shot in any match.

Might seem like I am jumping the gun here after just 2 failures but this is a genuine worry.

Absolutely!!!! mark this date. The babar we saw was the best from here now on under Misbah his batting will decline more and more. Yes call it over the top comment but the kind of mentality Misbah brings is very very dangerous to the modern day cricket.

I would hope that he's too good to let a change in team management affect his form, but the pressure on him is huge and the lack of support in the batting unit will no doubt be a concern to him.

He's still got improvements to make and I worry if his development will stagnate under this current management.

Champion cricketers like Kohli score runs no matter who the coach is; Fletcher or Kumble or Shastri. Only in Pakistan will you see such gems.

Have you not heard about the work that the Indian batting coach did with Kohli after that 2014 England tour? Champion cricketers need guidance and support.

Cricket is a team game. One player can be an ATG but ultimately it is an XI vs XI game. An extreme example of this is: SRT in team India of 90s. Sachin's best year went in vain, because India in 90s as a team were not sufficiently and consistently competitive.

In 2nd T20I against SL, in 3nd over:

2.6
0
Rajitha to Ahmed Shehzad, no run, back of a length and skids on outside off, squeezed to mid-on off the inside half
2.5
0
Rajitha to Ahmed Shehzad, no run, full and straight, tickled to short fine leg
2.4
0
Rajitha to Ahmed Shehzad, no run, short and on a fourth-stump line, fended back to the bowler
2.4
1w
Rajitha to Ahmed Shehzad, 1 wide, back of a length and speared down leg for another wide
ABAE: "180+ total, Babar not firing, Fakhar gone, RRR climbing. PAK having a horror of a day"

2.3
0
Rajitha to Ahmed Shehzad, no run, back of a length and outside off, punched up to cover
2.2
0
Rajitha to Ahmed Shehzad, no run, good length and seams back in, Shehzad plays around the front pad and is hit on the pad, but this seems to be heading down leg. Ultra Edge detects an inside edge as well
2.2
1w
Rajitha to Ahmed Shehzad, 1 wide, full and shaping down the leg side for a wide
Shehzad at one drop

2.1
W
Rajitha to Fakhar Zaman, OUT, What have you done, Fakhar? This wicket hushes Lahore. Fakhar pre-meditates, jumps across off even before Rajitha delivers. He searches for a scoop, the seamer darts it outside off, the ball kisses the pad and rolls back onto the stumps. Rajitha produces the breakthrough for SL
Fakhar Zaman b Rajitha 6 (4b 1x4 0x6) SR: 150.00

Wicket-Wide-Dot-Dot-Wide-Dot-Dot-Dot

Seven deliveries were bowled at Ahmed Shehzad yet he couldn't score anything with his bat. First delivery of fourth over, Babar felt an uncharacteristic urge to search for a boundary which caused his demise. A bit of speculation: maybe by Haris Sohail on other side; Pakistan would have scored 5 runs and Babar would have rotated strike; instead of looking for forced boundaries.

Ahmad Shehzad and Umar Akmal on crease are a pain to watch. Uncomfortable and utter opposite of fluent. They not only get out but cause chaos in batting line-up.

Will Babar Azam decline under the new coaching setup?
Probably not. But most importantly: will Babar-e-Azam win us games? A superior bat than Babar aka SRT couldn't win many for India in 90s.
Wolves hunt in packs, even VK got luxurious Sharma/Dhawan and cool MSD there... I say put VK in our XI and he may perform sub par as well.

My 2 cents.

Babar Azam relies on solid starts at the top, he struggles when the choke is on.

Shouldn't be an issue. It's the constant wickets going down putting him under pressure. Usually he had Fakhar in T20's supporting him. Now its no one.

If a player 'declines' because of coaching staff that player was probably never that good anyways and was just going through a purple patch. Clearly that's not the case with Babar.

Wouldn’t be surprised. Misbah is a curse on our LOI teams.

Hopefully not.
Today happened because of shezad.
Babar should not be the one to have to play an ugly hack to get the scoreboard moving. It should always be the guy at the other end.
Only Babar should be allowed to take his time in t20 because he will score on AVG 54 off 40 balls.
Babar and shezzy batting together at the top will always end like this.
Shezzy was never gonna take a chance against the quicks, when he should be the one doing it

Babar Azam Failure

Did Vice Captain-ship resulted in Babar Azam's failure? If yes then what will be the future and if No then whats the reason of his failure against a weaker side?

Failure: Its just because he sets the standards for himself and the coach Misbah said that too.

thank you very much.... when i tried to put this point across (in a different way) there were a few crows calliing out logic logic.....

in essence, misbah just destroyed what was a major event of having international cricket in lahore by fielding the worst T20 team (batting wise) in history of pak (bowling wasnt far off but there is limited things to change in tht department)

It shouldn’t be a issue.

But you guys place way too much importance in too a coach in international cricket. Seen stupid comments like Fakhar is batting slow because of Misbah LOL. Teams know how to bowl to Fakhar, he has been worked out. Also other than Babar, our batting line up is average.

Its more the players who are a batting with him i'd say.

With Haris Sohail for example, Babar feels more comfortable, with Shezhad there is not much comfort.

The shot in the second T20I was more out of desperation, since Shehzad was not doing much and Babar himself struggled with timing.

I'd like to hope he is established enough that coaching will not change him.

So what does this series result mean for Babar's career?

Babar is the architect of his own demise.

No coach interferes with him, he did whatever he wanted.
I think Herschelle Gibbs once commented on how stubborn and stuck in his ways Babar is. He had full autonomy over the team, holistically, and produced failure after failure. Playing for Pakistan is a privilege- not a right. Hopefully Babar remembers this going forward.

Him and Kohli should take a long vacation together in the Himalayas, far away from cricket, until they get themselves sorted.

They can take their toxic online fans with them too.

Except that Babar may come back, Kohli is past it.

Unlike Indian fans that want Rohit and Kohli to be out PCT fans seem to back Babar to come good.

Great foresight

Babar will be back in the test squad who ever thinks other wise is stupid.

India's potential batting depth is better (actual performance TBD). And babar is also just 30 compared to Kohli and Rohit who just have a year or two even if they play well

babar will be back eventually, but lets not kid ourselves, he had an average first class record when he was selected, and has had an average test career barring two seasons where he had a few decent, if not match winning overseas knocks and filled his boots on the roads he got curated at home.

hes always had an issue with knicking off outside off, and restarting after intervals, if he gets his head right, goes back to domestic and puts some good runs then i wouldnt mind him coming back as an opener, cos thats one position competition is pretty weak for pak. i think if he could average high 30s, or 40 opening he could still be a contributor.

but what will happen is that he will go on the tour to south africa, and kamran will likely struggle, and he'll be back at number 4 in time for the home series against WI.
