Well, was the best of the day atleast. Abid and Fawad weren't playing so can't properly judge how difficult it really was to bat here. The rest of them can't play spin.

While Babar sits comfortably at the top of the list for Pakistani batters, he also comes in at fifth for all batters all time, behind only Sir Vivian Richards (206), Hashim Amla (217), Brian Lara (220), and Joe Root (222), and ahead of players such as Virat Kohli and Steve Smith (both 232). Considering that the players ahead of him did not play the format of the game with the smallest chances of putting up big scores in the shape of T20I cricket, or at least only sparingly did so, it puts Babar's accomplishment in perspective.

Ab absolute masterclass today. On 95, hope he gets the 100 but the situation he was in, the pressure, the spin, the zero support make this innings special.

Rescue act once again from the brilliant Babar.

Time and again shows his team-mates how to bat, but very few learn from him.

Babar isn't only the fastest Pakistani batsman to reach 10,000 international runs he's the fastest Asian batsman to reach that milestone.

Quickest to 10,000 international runs:

Viv Richards 206 innings
Hashim Amla 217 innings
Brian Lara 220 innings
Joe Root 222 innings
Babar Azam 228 innings

Others include:
Virat Kohli 232 innings
Steve Smith 232 innings

This 100 was special. Take a bow. He has cracked test cricket for good with this knock for me

I was close to criticising his approach for those 10 odd overs where he just made a single off the over to take strike.

But he has more than made up for it now. Great innings

What a great Innings when everyone was struggling and the ball was turning very big.His best Innings in his career so far.

That record should further improve with more and more batting innings in Pakistan in front of his home crowd.

Babar Azam has made 50 or more in 8 out of his last 9 ODI innings

Babar Azam last 9 ODIs:

Runs 746
Hundreds 4
Fifties 4
Average 93.25
Strike-rate 97.90

He missed out on a hundred in both matches so far. Really annoyed with him today. There was no need to play that shot.

He would have been sitting on 19 ODI hundreds after these 2 games.

Not often we see him playing those rash shots he played in his last 2 innings after reaching 50.

Shahid Afridi:

“Ball keeps swinging there. Babar and Fakhar played an outstanding innings. But I rate Babar highly, so I think it was a good opportunity for him to score a hundred. There was no need to play a shot like that. Fakhar was playing with him. I liked his innings too,”

Former Pakistan captain says that Babar doesn't need to pay attention to the outside noise.

“I don't think Babar needs to take pressure over these things. He doesn't need to bother himself with what other people are saying. His performance speaks for himself. And he is playing brilliantly. I just said that when Fakhar is playing like that, you don't need to take chances. I only wanted him to score a hundred,"

Statistically he will for sure finish as Pakistan's best batter but in terms of impact I guess there have been better.

Babar looked to have gained good amount of weight. Need to be cautious on his fitness !

Think some comments on social media on pics that he tweeted

Most runs in 10 consecutive ODI innings:

995 - Virat Kohli (2018)
857 - David Warner (2016-17)
837 - Babar Azam (2021-22)
834 - Ross Taylor (2018-19)
816 - Rohit Sharma (2018-19)

A birthday to remember for Babar

In this T20 era, you will find more talent - and Babar is like a legendary find but too easrly to surpass kinds like S.Anwar, J Miandad, and rest mentoned

Taking a trip down memory lane on Babar's 28th birthday, Pakistan Cricket recalled that the premier batter was a big fan of De Villiers. One of the greatest batters in the modern era of the game, former South Africa skipper De Villiers played 114 Tests, 228 One Day International (ODIs) and 78 T20Is for South Africa. Nicknamed Mr 360°, De Villiers is also fondly remembered for his impactful stint with Virat Kohli's Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

"During that time, I was very fond of AB de Villiers. I was overwhelmed after seeing him. I used to learn from him, what he was doing, how he was batting and fielding. I used to stay near the South African team to notice what De Villiers was doing. I used to get a lot of boost after seeing him," Babar said in a video uploaded by Pakistan Cricket on Twitter.

Matthew Hayden speaking to Star Sports:

"Babar Azam is a champion. He comes back from these things time and time again because that's what champions do. When you think about the statistical comparison at the same stage, Virat Kohli vs Babar Azam, Babar Azam is actually leading that shoot-out match,"

"So that's how significant he is to the Pakistani team lineup, and I am sure that he can do it in this shoot-out against Sri Lanka. Babar is central not only because he is the captain, but he is absolutely central in terms of the talent of that batting unit,"

Like Waqar said, the number one ranking, stats, averages ultimately mean nothing if you can't deliver when it matters the most and if you habitually go missing on the big stage against the big teams.

Hayden talking nonsense.

Prime Babar and past his prime Kohli have played 3 tournaments in the last 12 months and Kohli has outperformed Babar in all of them including in Pakistan-India matches.

This shows that even a past his prime Kohli is a better batsman than prime Babar.

It is ridiculous to compare these two players. Babar is simply not in Kohli’s league. Never was and never will be.

Kohli’s skills and mental fortitude are something Babar cannot match.

Babar can be the best Pak batsmen ever for sure. This will happen if we keep playing Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe and Nepal perhaps even Sri Lanka. Those who even compare Babar to Kohli know nothing about Cricket. I have been saying this for ages only for daft statistics to be thrown at me. You will be called an "Indian" here for saying Babar is not even world class.

So far its Inzi or Javed Miandad if you use finishing games as a criteria. Mohammad Yousef int the mix too but he didn't finish games. BA has ways to go and from the looks of it , seems like he likes to bully weaker oppositions .

Prime Kohli wasn't able to match WC runs of 473 in 8 innings that Babar scored in his debut WC in english conditions. Babar also was the top scorer of '21 WC which IDK why people seem to forget easily and Captain Kohli team's was knocked out after first 2 games. I am not in a mood to argue but being at peak doesn't necessarily means that you'd top every chart of every tournament. I am again hoping same or more amount of runs from Babar and also from Kohli since the WC is in India.

Tendulkar didn't use to finish the games either. It is due to the batting positions. Babar opens in T20is and comes at no.3 in ODIs. All of the players you mentioned, Miandad, Inzi and MoYo used to play lower in the order than Babar does. Hence not an apples-to-apples comparison.

Statistically, yes, he may end up as the best-ever Pakistani batsman.

In reality, the generation that has watched Inzamam or Anwar would never consider him better.

What shoot-out match is he talking about?

Kohli won the World Cup with his decent 35 runs in the final match, which was a crucial partnership with Gambhir.
Kohli won the Champions Trophy as the highest scorer in the final.
I don't want to talk about T20 tournaments; he dominated left, right and center, including against archrivals.

What is Babar's performance in shoot-out matches, and how many trophies has he won?
The answer is zero.

Babar will never be as good as Kohli. Please accept this bitter reality. The quicker you do, the less painful it will be.

Or Kohli will never be able to be as good as Babar with his scores of 1,4 and 5 in the last 3 ODI knockouts that he has played. As I mentioned I am in no mood for this debate. :)

The answer is zero.
Babar won CT with 46 building a superb partnership with Fakhar against Kohli XI.

He scored left, and center and finished with 473 runs in 8 WC matches that was his debut WC. A run tally that cheeku hasn't even came close in his 3 attempts.

He scored runs left, right and center in his first T20 WC when being a Captain.

Babar is the king of soft runs. Sadly those runs will never come on the big stage when it matters, his batting under pressure mirrors his captaincy. Complete incompetence. The body language of an individual tells it all

He is entering in a territory where everyone can say he is king of soft runs and minnows bashing. Need to perform in crunch situation and against top team to remove that tag . World Cup is coming and he can remove that tag forever by winning the Cup .

Why do pakistanis want a Kohli like batsman?

This is like Indians in 90s wanting a bowler like Wasim.

Concentrate on strengthening your strength further. That is bowling.

The bowling is far from complete esp in these conditions.

He is already the best batsman Pakistan has ever produced, and he will finish Pakistani cricket with his captaincy soon, so yes.
He isn’t better than Inzimam.

I can say this with all honesty

Babar Azam's performances in the last three tournaments:

Asia Cup 2022:
India: 10(9)
Hong Kong: 9(8)
India: 14(10)
Afghanistan: 0(1)
Sri Lanka Final: 30(29)

T20 World Cup 2022:
India: 0(1)
Zimbabwe: 4(9)
Netherlands: 4(5)
South Africa: 6(15)
Bangladesh: 25(33)
New Zealand SF: 53(42)
England F: 32(28)

Asia Cup 2023:
Nepal: 151(131)
Bangladesh: 17(22)
India: 10(24)
Sri Lanka: 29(35)

In the last three tournaments that Babar has played, he hasn't performed. One can't even call him a minnow basher, as with the exception of 151 against Nepal, he has failed against other minnows such as Hong Kong, Zimbabwe and Afghanistan.

Is this what the best batsman in the world looks like? Honestly, Babar is extremely overrated. Yes, he is a very good batsman, but one doesn't become elite by performing against B and C bowling attacks at home in meaningless bilateral series. One becomes elite by performing in big matches, in tournaments, and Babar has failed in that aspect for the most part.

How can anyone with a straight face call Babar Azam the best batsman in the world?

Next game will be Pakistan vs Netherlands.

Lose this game and it could be the end of Babar’s captaincy.

As i said earlier, every team has at least 2-3 players better than Babar. This guy cannot even play decent spin, pro[er fast bowler, can't handle match pressure either.
Any of Zaheer, Miandad, Anwar, Inzi, Malik is far superior than Babar.

Why do pakistanis want a Kohli like batsman?

This is like Indians in 90s wanting a bowler like Wasim.

Concentrate on strengthening your strength further. That is bowling.

Forget Kohli. Rohit, Gill, Pant, Kishan, Pandya as batsman has more impact than Babar. Had he born in India his career will be finished playing first-class leagues

Babar reminds me of Yousuf ... bullies lesser attacks, goes missing against better attacks, and goes missing in big matches.

Doubt it that they will change captaincy midway through the tournament
But after WC he might be sacked from captaincy

Babar reminds me of Yousuf ... bullies lesser attacks, goes missing against better attacks, and goes missing in big matches.
Come on!!! Yousuf didn't play with 3rd or 4th string top teams or associate teams. Yousuf could have scored another 5k on top his current runs plus healthy average.

He is already the best batsman Pakistan has ever produced, and he will finish Pakistani cricket with his captaincy soon, so yes.
In terms of stats sure, considering he's stat padded by playing 2nd string sides as well as the current era he's playing in, but by that logic imam up haq is better then his uncle inzimam because he has better stats then his uncle.

Anyone who has watched the game knows that inzi, Yousaf, saeed Anwar, zaheer abass, Younis khan(In test)

^^ Babar ain't anywhere near them. Babar ain't ever reaching 192 score, even though he's playing in a modern era where its easier now, while saeed Anwar managed to achieve this in an era where it was considered an impossibility while dominating bowlers that babar couldn't even dream of playing let alone scoring against.

Zaheer abass is literally compared to Donald Bradman and no one critises his moniker of Asian Bradman, he earned that moniker and rightfully so probs the 2nd best bat in his era after viv Richards. Babar being compared to bradman was so funny, twitter became a meme.

Similarly Babar ain't doing half of what younis did in test against extremely difficult bowling in extremely difficult conditions, Babar will never reach a 300 on test I guarantee it.

I can go on and on. Scoring and stat padding your way against 2nd string sides in the current era on flat track pitches isn't an achievement, pur legends would be averaging 100+ if they played in the same conditions that babar has.

Babar reminds me of Yousuf ... bullies lesser attacks, goes missing against better attacks, and goes missing in big matches.

Fair enough but yousaf didn't stat pad against 2nd string teams, nor were his time spent on flat track pitches of lahore or bullying a non existent West indies bowling line up and a C string Australia on a batting paradise pitch.

if babar realy wants to become a great of the game so he need to leave the captaincy else he wont be able to perform under pressure.
Rizwan could be a better option to lead the side. All he need to just control the faltu Jumping behind the stumps after ever grab.

He needs to starts playing many iconic knocks against gun oppositions otherwise gap it too big for him to become the best for Pakistan.

The problem is Pakistan very rarely play against gun attacks in Babar's best format ODIs. That's why this Asia Cup and WC back-to-back is so crucial for his legacy and career, it's sink to statpadder or swim with the greats. Been very disappointing so far.

I'm holding out hope he's got a few iconic knocks around the corner in India.

For better or worse, that's what determines the greatness. He can't end up as the best of Pakistan without doing it in ODI. In test, I don't think he will ever get there.

Best ever Pakistani player doesn't mean much on the world stage

Born: October 15, 1994.
Happy Birthday to one of the modern-day greats and one of the best players to play for Pakistan. Babar Azam!

I consider myself a genuine well wishes of his and I really wish he plays some iconic knocks to be regarded among the greatest. He has the numbers already, only need some memorable knocks and needs to have an aggressive mindset’s
