Will Indian team boycott matches against Pakistan in Asia Cup 2025 and T20 World Cup 2026?

What a shameful bunch these goons in BCCI and government are. Playing with an enemy which plays head shots with the skull of fellow Indians. Hopefully this BCCI team loses by a big Margin and crashes out of Asia cup in first round itself.

‘We cannot boycott’: BCCI defends India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2025 match held months after Pahalgam attack

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary, Devajit Saikia, explained why India has no choice but to play Pakistan in the ingoing Asia Cup 2025.

Saikia told Hindustan Times, “We have decided to participate in the Asia Cup because it is a multinational competition. It is just like an Olympic, any FIFA tournament, AFC tournament, or International Athletics Tournament.”

"So we cannot boycott the multinational tournament because if we boycott this tournament, that will bring a lot of negativity for all our future endeavours of hosting any multinational tournament in the country," he was quoted as saying.

“So therefore, as it is a multinational competition, we are participating because we do not have a direct call or direct decision whether to play or not to play,” Devajit Saikia said.

The BCCI secretary said making a unilateral decision is easy when it comes to bilateral cricket, but things become complicated when multilateral events are involved.

"Had it been a bilateral tournament, we could have always said that we would not play against any hostile country. And so far as Pakistan is concerned, we are not playing any bilateral tournament since 2012-13 onwards," he told HT.

Implications of boycotting India-Pakistan match

Saikia stressed that the BCCI couldn't have taken the risk of jeopardising the players' careers, so the only option was to proceed with the match against Pakistan.

He further explained the BCCI's stance, saying, “We have decided to take a call that Pakistan is not friendly with us and they are always acting against our country. Therefore, we decided not to play as BCCI against PCB.”

“But when it is an international tournament like last year's T20 tournament in the West Indies and the USA, or any other tournament or maybe in February, also, there will be the ICC T20 World Cup or the present ICC tournament or the Champions Trophy, we are playing it because in those tournaments we do not have a direct call, we have to play,” he said.

“Otherwise, the whole tournament will get diluted,” Saikia added.

“And if we do that, then all other international associations will take action against the Indian Sports Federationm” the BCCI secretary said.

He went on to explain, “Suppose India is not participating in an AFC football tournament or a FIFA qualifying tournament or the Davis Cup, or the Thomas Cup, then in future, if we want to host a Commonwealth tournament in India or the Olympics in the 2030s, all these factors will take an adverse position for India to bid for those tournaments to be held in India.”

"And if the Indian association is barred, suppose India decides not to play in an international athletics tournament, tomorrow the Indian Athletic Association will be barred or there will be fines," he added.

This is complete lies once again from Indians. They are professional at lying and duping their public.

They can boycott and forfeit the points while still being able to play multinational tournaments. They can ask ACC to ensure that Pakistan V India isn't in the group stage of the tournament. And ask the ICC the same for world cups.

Why is there no India V Pakistan in WTC which is multi team tournament too? Why only in LOI?

The question is money. India has neither the guts to sacrifice some money nor the guts to drop 2 points for their so called victims.

Shame on these liars for tarnishing memory of their martyrs like this.
 
It is not SKYs fault but Indians are boycotting this game en masse. I know OP is having a great time and taking it as a joke but Boycott this match is trending widely all over. In the Indian forums, no discussion is happening. The prominent cricket youtube channels are not covering this game. Tickets are still unsold. Even after Sony TV tried their best to market this game, people are no longer buying it. This game does not exist in our book.

Indians are gearing up for Man U vs Man City today. That game will get crazy viewership from Indian diaspora

To the OP — relax, both will be forgiven. After all, despite all the ‘ups and downs’ with Pakistan, we still let in patients in for medical treatment they can’t get back home. This little episode too shall pass:babar just- another chapter in the India–Pak soap opera.

Come on DV bhai, let’s not kid ourselves — calling the World Test Championship a “tournament” is like calling a two-year Excel spreadsheet a World Cup. Teams play whenever their boards can squeeze in a series, some get five Tests, others get two, and then everyone pretends the points table is a level playing field. Where are the groups, the semis, the knockouts? There aren’t any. At the end of two years you just get the top two from the league table to play a final and voilà — we’re supposed to believe it’s a grand tournament.

Ok for score pointing and in blind Nationalistic jingoism you want to call it a tourney sure, go ahead.

It is a tournament according to ICC. A very flawed one for sure but a tournament none the less. Personally, I am not too out of sync with your thinking, I only consider the final itself an actual ICC tournament, but on paper it's a tournament in its entirety and if India qualified for the final and Pakistan miraculously became good enough to qualify then the whole event would be billed a tournament.

The point is - India can for sure back out of playing Pakistan in a multi nation cricket tournament, they just need to have the guts to drop points or drop money.

They could have have boycotted playing in first round and super 4 and still made final. Or minimally boycotted first round and said we would play knock out only.
This makes a mockery of their whole stance.
Also, makes it validate their operation sindooor was failure as it failed to take revenge for the attack and eliminate the perpetrators and instead ended up with egg on face with Rafael losses.

Either say we met objective and hence we will continue our aggression by beating them in another field now. Or continue a full boycott or at least in inconsequential group game.

Also, if indian fans wanted to send a message, they could have bought all the tickets and not showed up. But i suspect that won't happen.

The only difference being, cricket matches gets live broadcast for all to see the humiliations.

There’s no way players would simply walk off after finishing a match, no matter how much of an “enemy” you are. I’m convinced they were instructed by their government to behave this way. This is yet another reason why sports and politics should never be mixed. Absolutely disgusting behavior by the Indian players.
