Will Mohammad Amir rediscover his best form for Pakistan?

When it’s swinging there is no better bowler than Amir.

Why was'nt he able to swing back into right hander for 2 years? He wasted Pakistan campaigns into World Cup. Now when he's removed from the T20 side and suddenly he starts swinging in again rofl.

This comment can't be serious. Amir was by far our best bowler in the world cup. And probably the second best behind Starc even tough others bowlers also did quite well.

Great to see him bowl with energy and skill. It’s a shame he’s retired from tests but he looked back at his best. We kind of got used to seeing him bowl well wide of off stump to avoid going for runs. How’s he’s actually attacking the stumps and the toes of the batsman.

Bowled well today, needs to continue creating impact as that is what you expect from an experienced bowler of Amir's quality.

I don’t get why Immad bowls first over by default for Karachi??

Amir should be bowling on regular basis, most matches are evening. Swing between over 1 and 2 could be different. Amir’s main role is to swing the ball upfront. Today difference in swing between first and second over of Amir was 2.3 to 0.6 degrees, that was significant in getting those two wickets.

Swing is not something one can do on demand. Look at where Boult is bowling yesterday. If Amir was playing on same green pitch under cover, he would have been taking same number of wickets as Boult if not more...

Amir was also best bowler in WC from Pakistan, specially early on, when there was swing in the air...

But problem is his fitness. I don’t think he is fit enough to play test cricket, his knees cannot take load of test cricket, plus his pace is down in last 2 years...

Now there are better bowlers available, specially for T20 WC, which will be in Australia where pace and bounce matters more than swing. Two Shahs are better option, plus Harris/Wahab both of them knows how to bow in Australia and have yard of extra pace.

Amir is still useful in England, but WC is in Australia.

Agree with a lot of your points, in Australia though, even though pace is important, you have to realize it is t20 format, players are ready to cut/pull off the back foot. You have 4 overs, and along with sheer pace I believe a bowler with Amir's experience and variations and accuracy will come in very handy in the initial power play and death overs. Slower balls, wide and regular yorkers will be extremely important.

I would have 4 pacemen that play... Shaheen and Amir for sure, though the other 2 between Wahab, Hasnain, Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah, Musa will be difficult.

Musa hell no
Between Naseem and hasnain it's a very hard call just a slight tilt towards Naseem for me
But wahab is a must his record is there to be seen
I don't know about rauf tbh (in terms of should he be in the team)

ant.

Hasan Ali is also in contention.

Ball won't swing an inch in Australia. We need pace.

You also need experience and a guy who knows how to ball in pressure situations. Amir always steps his game up when the lights are brightest go look at his performances in ICC Events. Amir and Shaheen should be locks for the pace bowling attack in the World T20.

He is a selfish person. No need to bring back players like him or Akmal brothers. they are only good in thes domestic 20 league's.

I would hate if this man is preferred over young player who have a long future for pakistan. He nneeds to b treated in same coin. He can only play in extreme emergency when all other front line bowlers are unavailable.

Keep him out.. not the same & actually declining, can hardly hit 140k so will be toyed with in T20WC on the flats of Aussie land

Aamir is a curious case.... I abs hate him since he announced retirement from tests and loved it when he was dropped for the last few LOI series but then the guy is gooood with white ball...

Even as a mediocre pace, it is not tht easy to hit him bcz he has grown mentally and knws wat to bowl...

irrespctive of how much i hate him, personal bias for dumping us twice once in 2010 and then now by getting out of tests, i think he shld be in white ball crickt

Great bowling yesterday.

Lots of swing on offer in the air.

Nobody can swing it like Amir does when there's swing available. Accurate.

Rahat swings miles as well. Not as accurate as Amir though.

There will be ZERO swing in Aus. Keep your expectations low. Amir can still stop the runs flow as he's accurate.

Good tournament for Amir so far - was expecting him to be the highest wicket taker by now though

28 years old now.

Have we seen the best of him?

Is he past his best?

Has he underachieved?

I feel Amir's WC performance has given us renewed hope that he still is one of our best bowlers and he will step up in the big games no matter how much he is struggling initially (remember his wicketless phase before the WC).

Also remember the PAK rotation policy of the fast bowlers.. Instead of giving chances to the bench strength they would play their frontline bowlers in every single game be it against Australia or Canada...

Pak is going to have a series coming up against Netherlands and Ireland late this year and im sure they will play all frontline batsmen and bowlers to win the series one sided...

Pak think tank compared to the other teams have very poor rotation policy... Actually this Netherlands and Ireland series is the best time to give the bench strength bowlers like Haris Rauf, Ilyas , Usama Mir, Umer Khan, Musa the chance with one senior bowler may be Hasan Ali or Wahab Riaz can be around the corner for help train them for the matches.. Also in terms of batsmen they can give chances to Haider Ali, Rizwan Hussain, Zeeshan Ashraf, Hussain Talat, Umer Amin etc it can be anyone and this way they can maintain the bench strength...Instead they will Fakhar, Imam ul Haq, Babar Azam, Haris Sohail, Sarfraz, Ifthikar, Imad Wasim..

He is finished. He is bowling in low 120s these days with loads of cutters. Only supreme control on line and length is saving him. Pakistan should look past him.

I remember Mohammad Irfan bowling hostile spells in ODIs where he was consistently 140+ while occasionally 145+ kph against WestIndies and Zimbabwe:facepalm: somewhere around 2013-14 . By the time of WC 2015 in AUS, he was hobbling around with overworked body.

yes Misbah was the captain and Waqar was the coach when we saw the overworked fast bowlers and now they are the head coach cum selector cum batting coach and bowling coach... great days ahead for the boys in green... Im damn sure these two dumbheads will ruin some careers for sure with overworked and fatigues... If players are overworked then even Kohli wont be able to score runs or Akram be able to take wickets..

It’s glaringly obvious he is older than his official age.

I heard lots of murmurs about this from many people who were around him in Rawalpindi, however due to his youthful looks when he started international cricket, it was doubtful.

But you can clearly see over the past few years, he does not look like someone who is in the prime of his career. I’d say he’s above 30 at the very least.

Still has some cricket left in him of course because he has a good bowling brain.

Its harsh to say but I believe the WC 2019 was his swansong, he should not be apart of the Pakistan team after that.

Disagree here. Mickey and Inzi are not at the helm anymore. If Misbah can test new players in his first series and even in Australia. There is no chance we will not see new players against Netherlands/Ireland.

Exactly. He was testing new players like Imran Khan, Iftikhar Ahmed, Ahmed Shehzad, Umar Akmal etc for AUS and SL tour :14:

If you don't remember let me remind you that Shadab, Fakhar, Hasan, Imad, Babar, Faheem, Hussain Talat, Asif Ali and many other new players debuted under Mickey and co.

Mohammad Amir avatar. I'll let it pass.

Amir speaking to Wasim Akram

"You only get to know about your own value when you take a wicket in front of your own crowd"

"Even though I didnt play cricket from 2010-2015, I used to tell myself that I will and I can do it"

"I have been playing PSL for a few years but the pleasure of bowling with the new ball is much more this time around"

"Naseem Shah will come good quicker than the other youngsters. He has out & out pace like Musa & Hasnain but his length is good. Hasnain is doing well but it'll take him more time to come good as he needs to work on his variations & to play more First-Class"

"When you are given freedom by your coaches you really want to go and express yourself. The message from Wasim Akram and Dean Jones was go out there and if you get hit for 2 boundaries in the over, just make sure you get the team wickets"

"As a cricketer you get used to being dropped from the side so you get ready for that mentally; you say to yourself, I have been dropped from the side, I will prove myself to others in whatever comes next"

"When you blame others for being dropped, then you waste your mental energy as you have been dropped so what good will it be by saying such things"
