What's new

Will MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav cost India dearly at the 2019 World Cup?

Embarrassing by Dhoni so far. Will hit a few boundaries when the match is already lost, boost his stats and keep his place in the side.

Dhoni even grew a grey beard to look like an old man so that English would go easy on him. Too bad the angraiz dont believe in Pradhan mantri buzurg pension yojana.

Can't believe that we have Dinesh Karthik selected over Pant!

Seems like a tournament for Indian oldies, cut off age seems to be 30

Can't believe Jahdav is still being selected.

I don't understand what Kedar Jadhav has done to deserve so much hate. His numbers are very respectable for a number 6.

The only real flaw I see in him is his fielding ability, or lack thereof.

Karthik has played a handful of decent odi matches in 13-14 years yet he keeps on getting selected.

Kedhar jadhav has some strange propensity to get injured, I will be surprised if he lasts the entire tournament tho it's a very short tournament..

Rahul out whereas Jadhav plays. Pant not selected but, Karthik and Dhoni plays.

Rahul, Pandya and Bumrah will play tomorrow. Dhoni is a parasite and will leach till India gets knocked out in 2019 WC Quarter or Semis.

He has a point to prove....

And India would do well if he stops trying to prove.

Can't wait to see the next stories published in the papers by Dhoni's PR team.

"Captain Cool carried youngster Khaleel Ahmed's kit through the airport."

"Here's what the legendary MS had to offer to Rishabh Pant on the morning of the game."

Man, they better be paid well.

It started already. There's an article already on times of india on how athetic he was when he took a catch

I think Kedar jadhav won you Asia cup final recently plus he adds variety in bowling line up.Dhoni has to go.

Pant has played a grand total of 3 ODIs for crying out loud. Just how impatient are you? Thankfully you're not a selector otherwise we would have a new captain every series.

We should give more chances to Kaul, Thakur and Deepak Chahar as well because you are our selector.

3 hundreds by the champ in three innings with one win, one tie and one loss. No matter how useless the rest are, he keeps performing. He deserves support. This is getting too familiar to the old days of over reliance on Tendulkar. Don't see this Indian team getting far in the world cup if the middle order doesn't hold their own. At this moment only three players are showing up every game - Kohli, bumrah and Kuldeep. Dhawan isn't able to convert, Rohit is hit or miss, Rayudu is unreliable, Dhoni can't even rotate the strike. ODI team is as bad as the test team with only Kohli performing in batting.

Oh man. Talk about completely missing the point.

It seems your hypocrisy got exposed. You want guys like Thakur, Kaul and Chahar out of the team after just few matches but have a problem when someone else want Pant out of the team?

In my opinion Pant at the moment should just play in T20's. He doesn't look like someone who can build an inning after a collapse in ODI's. His style of batting suits T20's.

My gut feeling says Dhoni will not play in most of the WC matches, Pant will replace him unless and until he play some good cricket in aus-nz tour and chances of this are very dim.

With Pant would you want to see him continue to play tests? or back to Saha/Karthik?

Don’t know how accurate it is however read on Twitter that since making his test debut Pant is scoring at a quicker rate in test cricket than Dhoni is, over the same period, in odi cricket. Over the past 12 months Dhoni is batting as if it’s 1980s odi cricket.

If he is there as specialist wicketkeeper (which he is according to current scenario) then he should bat at no.7 or no.8 with tail enders not at no.5. No need to give him that special treatment.

Playing him at no.7 or no.8 will benefit india more imo. Where he can consolidate if everyone gets out cheaply or has only option of attack when platform is set.

Such a shame it is. He should have been retired at champions trophy2017.

I remember how Dhoni pulverized us in 2016 single-handedly with the bat, what happened to that batsman now?

But India were 3/4.

You dont chase 288 from that position.

It is possible to chase from that position. Indian strong middle order around 2005 have done that! But current team management just doesn't (didn't) want to build such team!

He got old. 38 in a few months and has played for India almost 500 times. Clearly his eyesight, reflexes, body or whatever has gone.

May be Indian team think tank thinks he is a still a better ODI player than the younger crop..

India has done it many times. Dhoni himself has done it. Do you think modern teams like SA and ENG won't win from there? 3 wickets down is nothing nowadays and 288 is not even over 300

Australia won continuous world cups under different captains and almost entirely different teams! Indian Cricket Management (and of course other Asian Managements!) just doesn't understand how to build teams & how to think without emotions! (Australia never saw a struggling/aged/prime-past Gilchrist, Ponting, Mc.Grath, Warne playing for them! Even today when their team is not performing well they are not going back & calling back some oldies!)

The plan is clear with this Indian team management! Either these 3 batsmen (with the support of Bumrah & Wrist Spinners) win you matches (while these passengers sit back & relax or make a guest appearance!) ELSE when they fail then you have an excuse that we collapsed, matches are won by top-order, matches are lost by bowlers, etc, blah blah... So these passengers can continue their raid!

Certainly this management doesn't care about winning all the matches... They are here to run their commercial show... I am sure they are making a lot of financial profit with this kind of team setup...

People age. Happens to everyone in every field of life, Dhoni in last few years is just destroying his legacy. Should have retired after 2015 WC and he would have been remembered as one of the greatest ODI players/captains.. But now people have started to actually hate him

Generally teams use their white ball sides to blood youngsters who may then go on to the test team. But in recent times India’s one day side has more oldies in it - like Dhoni, Karthik etc - then the test team does.

Life before & after their cricketing career will be in different shape than what it will be during their stint! That's unfortunate thing in India and other developing nations! That's why people go behind "power" & try to remain there no matter how tough it is for them & how much damage it puts on others...

This is the case for every sport in every country in the world. How is it special for india or cricket.

Here the logic is which ball game has more money & fame! Unfortunately even the advent of IPL has not secured the oldies... Dhoni & co can easily play all kinds of leagues all through the year (not only IPL, but BB & other leagues also! They can be engaged throughout the year till whenever they wish!) But they will see the easy way (actually some of the international matches are less competitive as you can also get matches against weaker opponents like Zimbabwe, Bangladesh, etc!) Also BCCI should allow these oldies to participate in other leagues as well to make money & to be in the game!

Because the system has loopholes (as you can see there are mad fans who support such thing and go emotional! Like how you feel if your elder Dad loses a job at 55, etc!) and these oldies will exploit the situation! In other countries people know the end of their day and just move on even if they wish they could continue (but they won't have such strong feeling!) Also they are not treated as demigods, so they won't find it much hard to live after that, and also the opportunities after that will be much better compared to here! (That's why ABD at such prime simply retired like a Champion!)

Teams are selected by sponsorship companies. Otherwise lot of these guys would have already been kicked out.

It's a sad demise of Indian odi cricket. The quality has gone way low. I have hopes for 2023 world cup but the next one.... I would be surprised if we will reach semis.

Awkward moment when Indians hating on Dhoni forgetting that he came in when the score was 4-3. :danish

Still, batting at 50 SR is unacceptable.RRR was 8 when he left

Ok granted he batted a little slow, but 8 rpo is nothing in this day and age especially when there was well set Sharma at the other end who is capable of achieving such run rates in his sleep.

Have to disagree, in most sports players try and cling on even if they can't hack it anymore people like Abd are fewer incomparison to a sachin or a dhoni, even ponting and cook were basically told to retire they did not go on a high, South Americans treat footballers the same way we treat cricketers, this is a selfish man being selfish, nothing really india or cricket specific for me, he pulled strings to make sure he did not get sacked as a captain after humiliation the team suffered on away tours now is pulling strings to make sure he clings on to his undeserved spot.

He scored 50 from 90 balls. He was batting to prevent being axed, nothing more. It was a selfish innings. 50 SR wasn't acceptable in the 90s, let alonr 2020.

No offense intended but for Pakistan batting, it is acceptable and not for indians. We may not set the bar high for bowling but for batting, we expect the perfection. Specially from the veteran.

If you are unable to deliver, then you should empty the place and give a chance to someone who can build a future.

It's not todays innings that's the issue. It has happened time and time again.

And don't start even rayudu.... He is the epitome of that's what wrong with a batsman. I'll accept Raina over him any day any time.

It is disgraceful of Dhoni to continue and act like captain while fielding. HE is just doing all he can do to protect his place. Faced bulk of the total 50 overs yet only made 53.
