It's got less to do with choking and more with them not having a very good batting line up. They are a bit of a one man team from what I've seen. If De Villiers fails, they tend to crumble. They are similar to Pakistan in that respect, just not enough quality in their top six.

AB is currently number 1 ODI Bat

Kock, Amla and Plessis are also in top 10

But still they are a joke as a team in ICC events.
