Sarfaraz Ahmed speaking at end of the abandoned match

"We really wanted to play the match today but unfortunately there is nothing we can do about this but we will take positives out of this which is that we have one point"

"We now have a couple of days before the match against Australia so we will work hard before that game"

"The momentum was very high after the England game and we really wanted to play today but we still have a very confident side, so hopefully we will do well against Australia"

"We all know that the Pakistan side is considered unpredictable so every other side is scared about us; On a given day, we can be a very difficult opponent as we saw in the game against England"

"We know that Australia are a very strong team so we have to play stronger, we have a couple of days left before that game so we will work harder"

Will be absolute disaster if Aus game is also rained out. We will go into India match with about 9 days of ZERO cricket.

Something is better than nothing.!!

Would've been terrible had we went on to play the match and lost it.

nope, i would happily take 1 pt against australia. against remainder we can still lose one game and make it, which can be India and rest are relatively easier teams afg, ban, rsa, nz.

We were also waiting for a long time bro

If Australia match is washed out, Pak will go with 13 days of no cricket.. But it still be okay. I don't see India doing all that well this time.. We are a poor batting side..

Pakistani players get some much needed rest, their playing schedules have been absolutely punishing since Sept 2018

What a clown-ish statement is this?

He's again blabbering about being unpredictable and how good it is. Hasan Ali on the other hand showed some maturity and realized how bad it is to be labeled as one.

Syed1 's favorite captain right here.

He is Pakistan's captain. Deal with it.

There is nothing positive in rained out match for Pakistan. Pakistan needed that match to win and win big to keep the negative NRR to positive. I think this no result match will be the reason Pakistan won't make it to Semi Finals

Pakistan’s momentum from an inspired victory against hosts and ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup favourites England will not be dented by a washout at Bristol.

Captain Sarfaraz Ahmed is adamant that his side will pick up next week where they brilliantly left off before heavy rain held up their charge.

Forecasts of foul-weather proved well founded and officials were left with no option but to reluctantly abandon the meeting with Sri Lanka shortly before four o’clock.

It was only the second fixture across five ICC Men’s Cricket World Cups in England – stretching back to the ground-breaking tournament in 1975 - that not a single ball was able to be bowled.

But history confirms that the soggy outcome is no barrier to glory because West Indies went on to win the 1979 World Cup despite suffering a similar fate, against Sri Lanka at The Oval.

Pakistan, seeking to emulate their success under Imran Khan in 1992, bounced back from defeat against West Indies in their opening fixture to triumph over England at Trent Bridge in the highest-scoring game of the current competition.

And so the rain left 32-year-old Sarfaraz a disappointed but philosophical figure, and his squad took out their frustration with a lengthy gym session at the County Ground while the crowd dispersed.

“As a team we really wanted to play this match especially after gaining momentum with the win against England,” he said. “It is unfortunate that we were not able to play.

“We have great team spirit and our confidence is on a high after beating England. We would want to carry the momentum into the remaining games. We won’t relax in our remaining six matches.”

Sarfaraz knows all about major events having made his one-day international debut as far back as 2007 and featured in the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand four years ago.

Pakistan will stay in the West Country for their next encounter, versus Australia at Taunton on Wednesday. The venue has a reputation for high-scoring in the white-ball formats and balls have been known to disappear into the nearby River Tone.

"Like other teams in the tournament, Australia are also a tough opponent,” added Sarfaraz. “They also have momentum as they have won their first two matches.”

Before then, Australia face India at The Oval on Sunday, and Pakistan will hope that their own extra time to rest will work to their advantage.

“We have a few days now to prepare for the match and we will try to prepare at our best to enter the field as well as we can,” he added.
Much interest is sure to centre on the comparison between the left-arm pace of both sides, Mitchell Starc in the Australia ranks against Mohammad Amir and Wahab Riaz, who proved so effective against England.

The weather is inconsistent during May and the early part of June in the UK. But from the middle of June usually we got hotter weather. Rained out games are so annoying.

Why does he keep on saying "everyone is scared of Pakistan"?
Why do we have such a pendu as our captain?? He literally doesn't know how to speak in a civilised manner.
He's embarrassing himself and us.

He’s honest about his team. Knows its unpredictable. Wins against England, loses to Afghanistan. You can never guess. So what’s embarrassing about it?

The guy literally said "everyone is scared of pak". It comes off as arrogant and rude. Him being proud of the "unpredictable" tag is just sad.
At least teach sarfaraz some manners on how to speak in a press conference.

Eoin Morgan: "Our values as a team include the words 'courage', 'respect', and 'unity', symbolising the three lions on our cap, and taking that cap forward across all squads."

Virat Kohli: "In the game of cricket a hero is a person who respects the game and does not corrupt the game."

Faf du Plessis: "So, for myself, it's really important to stay strong. The team will feed off my energy, and they will look up to the leadership group in the team. But I'm at the top of that, so it is important that I stay positive, I stay strong, make sure I keep motivating the guys."

Sarfraz Ahmed: "The masala needs to be right in a biriyani. Also I wore shalwar kameez to meet the Queen."

You forgot to add that out of the 4 Captains, Sarfaraz is the only 1 having won a ICC trophy as a Captain.

I honestly don't mind someone who can't speak English well to become our captain. It's fine. But the thing is that I doubt sarfaraz would sound any better even if he had been speaking in urdu.

So why did they not work hard before the WI game? Or during the game for that matter? Yet again we are leaving things late and probably end up relying on others to do us a favour.

Stop it you Sarfraz *****. He didn't do anything for our CT win. Hafeez, Fakhar, Amir, Junaid won it for us. He had nothing to do with it, other than the very lucky innings vs SL

I doubt he's the reason.
It was a mixture of luck, bad fielding, and even more luck.

And you call yourself a PAK CRICKET FAN?
In the history of PAK CRICKET despite all the big bames we never managed to win the CT. Say what you want but ad a captain he played a HUGE role.

Forget the SL innings, he was the captain and without a good leader you wil never be able to win.

Give credit where its due.

There is a significant difference in his statement and your statement.

He said they are «considered» unpredictable (by other teams). Not saying we ARE unpredictable.

He thinks that's a good thing. And that it means others are scared.

He thinks that's a good thing. And that it means others are scared.

How is that a bad thing? It just means that other teams do not take Pakistan lightly.

With that being said, I agree that as a team being predictable is better than the opposite.

The reality is no will ever know what the outcome of the match would've been; in which case 1 point is a positive because it could've been 0, or a 2.

Without knowing the positive outcome is a win/win situation, meaning 1 point each.

What is more embarrassing posters attacking the captain of the team they supporting at every little incident or statement, that too in the middle of the most important tournament when they need all the support they can get , putting aside personal hatred

If Aus match rains off as well and we get one point then it would mean return of the 2 points from Sri Lanka game, as against Aus Pak would most likely lose and gained 0 points.

It is obvious he is trying to day that they are not taking Pak lightly , but as his English is not that good he says words like scared. Posters need excuse to attack him.
