Will the 152-run win against England be the turning point for Pakistan cricket, just like the 152/0 against India was the start of the downfall?

Can Pakistan's 152-run win over England in second Test reverse their fortunes?

In the ICC T20 World Cup 2021, Pakistan's 152/0 against India marked the beginning of a dismal period for the team. But fast forward to the 2nd Test against England, where a 152-run victory has reignited hope.

Is this the turning point for Pakistan cricket?

Can the team build on this momentum?

Pakistan made the final a year later so how can it be the start of a dismal period?

The downfall started with the final in 2022. Shaheen got injured and never recovered while the likes of Babar lost form as well.

Few weeks later, Pakistan got steamrolled by England at home on the flattest of pitches. The decline started in Nov/Dec 2022.

No, this result does not fix the issues at heart. We are still a mediocre cricket team with an equally mediocre board. We have been left behind by all the other cricketing nations and losing to Zimbs and Ireland isn't a big surprise anymore.

Losing to Bangla or Afghanistan is probably expected now. Until we fully professionalise the cricketing structure, we won't catch up no matter which personnel we continue to churn through. This would only paper over the cracks at best.

Pakistan cricket downfall was started after 228 runs defeat in Asia cup 2023.

Let's wait for 3rd test to finish so we can judge them after this series .

Hahah you guys are talking as if we are suddenly a great team or something. We're just above rock-bottom now because of this win.

We've had chaos in the last two years due to political uncertainty, new chairmen with new governments etc. I think now that things are a bit more stabilised our cricket might also reach the level it should be. We won't become a top 3 team but can challenge those top teams especially at home.

Pak supporters need to get back to reality lol ! 1 win and then a resurgence talk, turning point etc etc. Forget turning pointt, just wait for next test. Eng will outblaze Pak :)

Well indeed 152-0 was the peak of Pakistan cricket in recent times, had been the precursor of quite promising results.

I think the downfall started much earlier. To be precise it was when Sarfaraz was replaced by Babar as captain in all 3 formats of the game. Babar should have either have been made deputy in all 3 formats and given time to learn or should have been made captain of only the t20 format. Also around the same time Ramiz had taken over and he was the one who started messing with the pitches and churned out flat decks so that his Babar and co could score runs. Also thanks to Imran the domestic cricket restructuring ruined a generation of cricketing talent as well.

Though Pakistan did reach the final in 2022 it was mainly due to SA losing to Netherlands. Pakistan did not earn it on their own. Losing to Zimbabwe in that edition was a big red flag but everyone chose to conveniently ignore it. This further cemented the delusion hence the phrase 'They can't play them' was coined during the 1st group match between India and Pakistan during last year's Asia Cup. But it all came crashing down a week later when India handed Pakistan their biggest defeat in ODIs. From then on Pakistan have continued hitting new lows everything 3-4 months. Maybe this is the start of a new dawn for Pakistani cricket and fans.

England pace attack last time was phenomenol, Wood, Anderson, Robinson. England had rest its main pacer for final test. This side was quit weak in bowling. Toss also didn't went in their favor.

To be honest due to IK regime many domestic performer awarded test cap against SA 2021. Noman, Sajid, Kamran all introduce at that time. We had beat SA 2 NIL at that time very first time in history.

Pak cricket was doing alright till last Srilanka tour before clown musical chair of Clown Sethi, Zaka, Naqvi started.

Pak was beaten by better Aus, Eng side last time, don't forget shan ball lost to Bangladesh. Babar team had beaten Bangladesh in two days that too in Bangladesh.

It should be the turning point for Pakistan where hey dominate the home series at least. This win against England it the way forward.

People are reading too much into the win.
Babar needed to take time off and Kamran Ghulam got his rightful place. Apart from that there is not much change. Pakistan's pacers lack fitness for the tests, you are not going to be winning games with 4 spinners. Is Pakistan happy trying to be Indian test team of 60s and 70s???

Had the toss went other way, England might very well have won the game. England just got exposed as it is a one dimensional team with just Bazballing on flat pitches or the seaming conditions of England where their bowlers thrive.

A lot of wins need to happen before any conclusions are made.

However, if there is to be a turnaround, this win could well be that turning point.

We heard the same thing last year when Pak won in Sri Lanka 2-0. There was all talk of "Shanball" and the positive aggresive mindset and whatnot. And to be fair, that was a much better win than this.

I think the next Test is very important in this regard. It's at Rawalpindi where Bangladesh thrashed them , and if they pull off a good win there, it will go a long long way in resetting the team's mindset. Too early to say after a win on a 10th day wicket.

Make a similar pitch and you will win the series.

Pakistan's issue was that they created pitches to help a batter pad his stats. They wanted to create a superstar out of a good batsman. Stupidity.

Beating Bazball in a Test series is no joke as it has happened only once since it began .

Shan Masood and boys could go down as the great underdogs who emerged from the ashes of PCB turmoil as phoenixes that cremated Bazball once and for all

If this doesn't inspire a revival of Test cricket in Pakistan and inspires more cricketers to value the format , I'm not sure anything can .

This pitch took turn because it was deteriorating and it was a consecutive match on the same pitch.

Preparing a turner in Rawalpindi might be challenging for the curators, as far as I know pindi is known for big scores.

The way to take wickets there is by using reverse or keeping the score rate a bit low and allowing spinners to bowl a lot.

Would be happy with a Pak win though.
Rizzu Symonds should score a century.

This is not a sustainable model using same pitch for back to back Tests. This could very well backfire if Pakistsan were to bat last. Having said that they should devise their home games around this template.
