Will Virat Kohli cement his status as the GOAT in ODIs if he takes India over the line today?

339 from a line up which hasn't even hit a notable total the whole tournament.

One of his best bowlers being the main reason for 25 extra runs being leaked.

If there is one man who can do it, it is Virat. He has done it before vs Pakistan in the Asia Cup of 2012 making 183,

But the stakes are higher, the total is higher, and so is the pressure.

But if he does it yet again will it settle the debate of his position in the pantheon of ODI greats? Or would there still be calls of him being just a great FTB?

I mean of the biggest criticisms his critics have is that a lot like his rival ABDV, he hasn't won India any gold yet.

He is already in that league, but he is not going to chase this.

He's already an ATG but man he'd probably solidify it for life if he chases this down.

Especially starting 0-1.

If he chases this he will become the undisputed GOAT.

Don't expect it though, it's a HUGE match and he's already been rattled.

changed title to GOAT, since not much dispute over his ATG status as I thought.

For GOAT, he needs to dominate one of the WCs taking his side to victory otherwise he won't surpass the likes of Viv, Sachin or even Ponting.

Wanted to ask, even before India started to chase yesterday, you were absolutely sure they wouldn't get anywhere near the target - just want to know why?

Personally, I felt like Pakistan had a very good chance if defending the total but India still had the batting to get it, it was only after Amir's incisions that I was sure Pakistan would win.

It is better to remove Virat Kohli from captaincy before it goes out of the hands. If Kumble is problematic as Coach, then even Kohli is not fit as a captain! Look at his attitude on the field! I think players are respecting him because of the stardom or blind friendship! Smart minded players will know that he is failing with strategies & management! I think he will go down the Sachin way in terms of captaincy... A failure! Sachin had a weaker team to deal with, but still he was not that good as everyone understood! (Ganguly took over then & changed the same team to stronger outfit!) Sachin was not cynical like Kohli, he had his own problems.

I guess the captain need not be your best player or star player! He needs to be a senior player of course to gain respect and a regular in playing XI, even if not senior even a promising player / key player whom people can show respect can do (best e.g., Graeme Smith). We can see somebody like Pandya with such eyes! Such players will get motivated to play even better with added responsibilities! But Indian People/BCCI are not used to such innovations!

But I am seeing Kohli as a failure with captaincy (may affect even his batting) with all those cynical behavior, in addition to poor strategies/management (when both these get added up - it will result in failures!) I think we won Test Series against Australia due to Rahane/Kumble combo in the last match (Kohli was not confident with the selection of Kuldeep, and we know what could have happened without Kuldeep in that match!) We are winning majority of matches because of the professionalism in our team and also because of poor oppositions around! When determined teams such as Pakistan or Australian Test team in India last time come up strong with their strategies, then we will see such humiliating defeats at their hands! These oppositions are not even full-strength teams! Imagine what would happen if we face teams like 90-00s Australia, 90s Pak, 80s West Indies....? We have a decent team but we need to get our acts right with management & team policies! Kohli's case should be dealt like Sachin!
