Will Virat Kohli's ODI average overtake Steve Smith's Test average?

King Kohli is currently sitting at 58.10 and his average is pretty much increasing by a point or so every series he plays, he is unstoppable in the fifty over format.

Smith, on the other hand, has the impressive average of 63.75, as there has been comparisons between him and Bradman.

Smith has the advantage of over 5 runs, but can Kohli become a better ODI batsman than Smith the test batsman?

Reaching an average of over 60 will be an unprecedented act in the shorter format and if Kohli can retire with a better average than smith then he will be known as the batsman of the decade, same scenario for Smith.

Thoughts :smith

Kohli is already the better overall player of the 2, its smith who needs to catch up. Smith is the best Test batsman out there but kohli can without a doubt claim to be 2nd best right now, Kohli is in similar boat in ODI's as Smith in Tests but Smith barely makes it to Top 5 batsman in ODI's.

Across all formats, Kohli is already better than Smith and one of the GOAT'S in making.

ATG in Tests, GOAT in odis/T20s.

Smith will be an ATG/GOAT in tests and very good in odis. T20s dont hurt if you are poor there because it is insignificant.

Different formats. For what its worth i believe Kohli will eventually overtake Smith in Test averages as well.

He already is. You can't compare averages just like that across formats.

But I think Smith's test average will go down a bit soon, so Kohli can catch up.

I have to wonder how many of you enjoy the actual game cricket instead of this frankly borderline mental obsession over GOAT, ATG, FTB, GTB, *** etc?

Kohli is great, but him doing well in ICC trophies would help a lot, irrespective of his average, billateral averages in ODIs doesn't matter compared to test average.

In T20 ICC trophies he has already done as much as he can, can't fault him for that.

Kohli is closer to Smith than Smith is to him in ODIs. Kohli could average 60 for a period of his career but don't expect him to maintain it till the end of his career.

Even by Kohlis standard it would take huge effort to break into 60 .

His avg was under 55 just 6-8 months ago. And before the start of this series it was 55.74. One big series (granted its the biggest EVER in history of ODI's ) has resulted in his avg shooting upto 58.10. So its possible but the thing is there will still be idiots who will whinge about CT Final and take cheap shots.

Does it really matter? The world already acknowledges Kohli as the best and possibly one day he may go down as the undisputed GOAT.

Depends, what are the future tours for India, apart from England next. Of course he can probably maintain his average in away tours but overtaking Smith would be much easier at home.
