What's new

Will we see the return of Sharjeel, Malik and Wahab before the T20I World Cup?

Shaheen really isn't that good. No other top team in the world would take him over any of the pacers they have. However, by our standards we have nobody to replace him.

Sure we do. You could easily have the likes of Amir/Wahab/Hassan Ali (a must)/Dhani/Faheem/M. Waseem Jr make up that final XI. All those guys i just mentioned barring Dhani can offer something with the bat as well.

Ask yourself this on these conditions will he be able to trouble the Indian batsmen? He got smashed before by them. He's good against other teams but would get smashed by India.

Shaheen is one of the best bowlers in the world (statistically) when it comes to picking wickets in the first over. And if you look at his numbers they are not just outstanding or very good; but they are also very consistent. There's a reason why he is one of the top five all-format fast bowlers in the world. Everyone is prone to getting smashed and anyone can have a bad day, but like they say: form is temporary, class is permanent.

Btw I fully believe that he can not just trouble Indian batsmen but get them out too. And not just Indian batsmen, but batsmen from any team.

Wow. This is the most absurd thing I have heard all week. Shaheen will rule international cricket a few years from now. And anyone who cannot see that needs to look more closely.

Also, any team in the world would give an arm and a leg to have a bowler like him in their side.

I can see him troubling other batsmen but just think he might fall short against Rohit and Dhawan.

Pakistan has lots to think about with the pace battery.

Wahab Riaz has certainly made a case to come back and that to ahead of Rauf who's looked pretty poor.

I mean just look at who we have to pick from

Wahab
Shaheen
Hassan Ali
Muhammad Amir (not his biggest fan but can acknowledge is a gun player and especially troubling in his opening spell)
M. Waseem Jr
Dhani
Faheem

Pakistan need to assess who will do well in these conditions and it's evident that Dhani could be a key weapon in my view.

Rohit is very good but by no means the best. There are multiple batsmen in T20I cricket that are either on his level or better than him. Dhawan might not even play because KL Rahul is a much more sure-fire pick as opener.

Shaheen is the leader of Pakistan's attack, atleast in limited-overs. He is going to be an automatic pick because he can deliver in all conditions. Infact if there's anyone who deserves to be excluded based on the conditions of UAE and his recent form, its Mohammad Amir. He has been absolutely woeful and has looked like nothing more than a run-of-the-mill medium-pacer lately. Let's not forget that he took 1 wicket in the UAE leg of the tournament.

Besides Shaheen and Hasan, Pakistan can go with one or two of Faheem, Dahani and Wahab, based on the combination they go with.

Rauf can be a back-up but I don't trust him enough for him to be in the first team. He has the tendency to bowl an incredible amount of rubbish and he lacks game awareness at certain points of the match. Wouldn't mind Wasim in the squad as long as he does well in the series leading up to the World Cup.

Lots for Pak to think about and to be honest it's always gonna be a battle to beat India. I just feel that like today proved India can be bested by pace but it's who we pick is the question.

Dhani has that Bhueveshnar Kumar like quality in him and India do have a certain weakness with short deliveries that i hope Dhani can exploit. It's a question to ask whether Dhani is ready on the intl circuit or was he just lucky in this 2nd leg? He's certainly improved and the lowering of that ER has been a big tick in the box for me. I'll be interested how he handles himself against Zazai tomorrow.

Wahab again for his age the fact he's kept up his pace and can bat is impressive.

Hassan Ali although expensive at times offers something with the bat in the back end of an innings.

Interesting times for Pak in terms of pace battery. It's who we go with in the end is the question.

I don't know. I wouldn't judge India in one format based on their performance in another. The Southampton pitch was a fairly challenging one that any team would have struggled on. And in a one-off T20 any team can come out on top on their day. All else is premature to predict until we see how these guys do in the series leading upto the WC. History has shown that PSL form isn't always the most reliable indicator of how good a certain player actually is. Alot of terrible players that are not international-level material have done exceedingly well in the PSL; past and present.

Go look at the stats if you think he isn't that good then your clueless

After one of our fielders dropped sharma when shaheeen was bowling

Dahani only knows how to ball short and has no variety but he will come good in future when he starts to learn the art of variations.

Wahab earned his spot back. He deserves to be there.

He has become a very good new ball bowler.

Come on Weve seen enough of wahab over the last 10 years to know hes a spray gun that will leak runs against intnl teams and be mediocre A half decent psl wont change his bowling esp at age 35+ Hes done

Just like malik hes not intl quality as we have seen numerous times

How many more times does he need to let pakistan down for people to get the message

After a couple t20 games he has now become a good new ball bowler ? :)

Couple of T20s? Did you see the PSL? He delivered with the new ball almost everytime he opened the bowling. I can only think of 2-3 times this season when he didn't deliver with the new ball. Go back and look at the scorecards if you don't remember.

What was his runs conceded ?

Wahab has improved leaps and bounds as a new ball bowler. That's an undisputable fact that was evident throughout the tournament because of how regularly he delivered with the new-ball.

Wahab undoubtedly has a reputation of being inconsistent, but he also has a reputation of delivering in World Cups. And just because someone was once mediocre or above average doesn't mean they can't get better. On top of that, Wahab is much better than the real spray-guns: Hasnain and Haris Rauf.

What was his runs conceded ?

Why would I know that? And who looks at runs conceded as a metric of success? Its runs conceded divided by wickets taken which gives you a bowler's bowling average. He took at 18 wickets at an average of 20.5, which makes him the second-highest wicket-taker in the tournament.

I was wrong about Shoaib Malik and you were right. He still has it in him and should be included in the WC Squad. Malik really played well this PSL.
Agreed on Wahab as well. No brainer he needs to return. He bowled his heart out!! I would like to see Dahani there as well.

Sharjeel has done well (4th highest run getter in PSL6 with 150 SR), so I think egos must be kept aside here because the data is quite obvious. Yes, UAE leg was underwhelming but that was true of many others.

We need to think about a group of pace bowlers so we can rotate and manage workload, keep them fresh and hungry like a pack of wolves. We need all of them!
Here's my pack:
Amir, Wahab and Hassan Ali --> experienced guys
Shaheen, Dahani, Haris Rauf ---> Rising talents

Pick all 6 in the squad and rotate

Faheem and Mohd Wasim fall into allrounder category.

His economy is 8.66 which is below the top 10 bowlers.his average is 20 which is below the top 5 and he has played the most games.anyways he had a good tournament but Do you think he can translate that performance if he is asked to bowl with the new ball in international

I would never pick Amir I don't think he has picked more more 7 wickets in this psl he offers no competition.

Dahani's ER is over 9. Does he not deserve to be in the squad?

And if you're going by ER's than Haris Rauf and Hasnain are even worse.

Aligned. I mean how can Dahani not be in the team after this performance but guys like Hasnain and Arshad iqbal can

Yes, Amir underwhelmed.
PSL 6 performances are important but should not be the sole criteria for players who have represented Pakistan already and performed at the international stage. Based on this logic, we would have to drop half Pak team because Hafeez, Fakhar, Shadab, Faheem, Nawaz, Imad and many others also didn’t do well in PSL6, but we obviously can’t do that.
Again, Amir has a pretty big body of work to suggest his potential and what he can deliver for Pakistan team. He should be part of the squad but not necessarily the 11

Looks like both Malik and Wahab will be back as well

Team would look like (18 Member Squad due to Corona)

Mohammed Rizwan +
Babar Azam *
Sohaib Maqsood
Mohammed Hafeez
Fakhar Zaman
Shoaib Malik
Imad Wasim
Shadab Khan
Hassan Ali
Wahab Riaz
Shaheen Afridi

Sharjeel Khan
Sarfraz Ahmed
Mohammed Nawaz
Usman Qadir
Faheem Ashraf
Mohammed Hasnain
Haris Rauf

I agree it shouldn't be the sole criteria.but when someone isn't going to be put the hard yards in domestic then you can only judge that person throw psl as that's the format or competition he only plays.Amir doesn't care if he doesn't play for Pakistan he makes enough money I would rather invest in a younger motivation individual.

No I believe Pakistan did the right thing by not bringing him in the T20 squad let him do the hard yards in the test arena.

Rauf is not good enough he only bowls yorkers and is clueless.husnain has a better ceiling and I's very young I would invest in him.

Good thing is that wahab can hit the ball and much better fielder.but he's also a spray gun like the psl final.if he does make a come back to international he has to bowl with the new ball as that's what we are lacking as a partner with shaheen.

No, no we won't. Will that be a costly decision?
