I have always been under the impression that the English crowd loves its test cricket more than one day internationals. So I am curious to know how the mood is in the country, especially when compared to the Ashes 2005 test series victory.

Ashes 2005.

It’s hard to explain how much getting the Ashes back after they were in enemy hands for sixteen years felt. Especially after that titanic duel against a team of champions, with three tests in succession going to the wire.

The WC win is more a sense of relief than exultation.

It was The Ashes 2005. England were expected to win the WC whist no one expected them to win The Ashes. Also the way they played fearless and positive cricket was unheard of for them.

2005 Ashes , possibly one of the best series I have seen .

2019 WC , England won by umpiring error. Not good enough.

Ashes 2005.

Beating the great Australian team across 5 Tests was just the stuff of legends.

Most of the English fans today at work shared the same opinion, now that the entertainment is over, the serious competition begins from the 1st of August, the Ashes!

Test Cricket rules in England.

Ashes 2005. Beating that aus side was considered next to impossible and it will go down as one of the greatest achievements of england cricket.

Ashes 2005 must be hash tagged with McGrath being missing.

Just like every celebrated England win eh?

Put an asterisk next to all England wins from now on, as they are not real wins.

In fact maybe England should just start forfeiting games up front and make it even easier.

🙄

Man I've loved your and other English fans reaction to it all. You've only vindicated what I and others have said.

Shaz's hate post to downplay our performance was the icing on the cake.

But when all is said and done, that New Zealand trophy cabinet is still empty. You continue to enjoy your perceived moral victory on an internet discussion forum.

Meanwhile we are loving being World Champions.

World Champions*

I wouldn't claim a shared WC, nor would I claim a win on such a nonsensical tie breaker.

Mcgrath missing means half of the major threat gets nullified. So in that sense it was never impossible.

Why? We don’t know what would have happened had he played all five tests. Australia were complacent and heavily reliant on two bowlers when the rest weren’t up to the job, and got found out by the best England side of the last forty years.

2005.

I was fortunate enough to attend the final test match at the Oval.

The atmosphere for that match was on a completely different level to the one I attended at Lords this year for the Aussie/England game.

Watching us toil in home and away series throughout the late 80's up to 2005 and then to finally beat them in a series that had everything was special.
