Would an unpartitioned-India side have been the greatest cricket team ever in all formats?

Where would india rank as a cricketing nation if the partition never took place. Just imagine kapil dev and imran khan bowling in tandem. Sachin, laxman, dravid, shewag complimented by wasim, waqar, shohaib. Muhammad asif and muhammad amir would probably not have been involved in the scandal. A fearsome fast bowling attack of Bumrah, ishant, shami, asif, amir. Shahid afridi and yuvrag singh in the same team.

Pakistans success in the 80s and 90s indias success in 2000s and 2010s. Could a goat team better than the goat wi team or the goat austrailian team be formed.

It would have been a legendary side.

It would have produced legendary batsmen of stature of Tendulkar, Gavaskar, Kohli, Miandad and Dravid.

It woudl have produced legendary pacers of stature of Wasim, Imran, Waqar, Kapil, Bumrah and Shoaib.

Legendary all-rounders like Kapil and Imran.

Basically you are straight away eliminating Pakistan Bangladesh thereby reducing two more teams from the already miniscule cricket map.

No, cricket hardly works that way.

There would have been very little chance of all those players playing together with a 3rd large country having a different system.

for your information there was a united India side prior to partition. With regards to post 47 if it would have been a great side. No. it would have been mired in politics and eventually corruption. It would actually be a very poor side inmho as the right people would not be selected. Cricket would not be spread as widely and it would ultimately not be too dissimilar to the 90's Indian team.

Like it or not but the Pakistan vs India rivalry has spurred both nations to punch hard, sometimes above their weight. In a united India a large number of cricketers who currently play or have played would never have made it. I believe Kardar did play for utd India and so did many of our first generation.

There's no saying. After partition, both countries eventually developed their own unique cricketing cultures. Would that happen if they were one country? Best case scenario, yes. Worst case scenario, we have neither a batting nor bowling culture and get the worst of both worlds.

According to stats between the year 1932-1936 UTd India played 7 matches, won 0, drew 2.

If you widen that out a bit more then go from 1932-46 they played three more matches and won none of them.

overall between the latter period they played 10 test matches and lost 6 of them, drawing 4.

The 1984 side would be:

Gavaskar
Mudassar
Azhar
Miandad
Vengsarkar
Imran (c)
Kapil
More (w)
Qadir
Sarfraz
Maninder
