Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has expressed his desire to coach Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The speedster was a part of the popular franchise back in 2008, the only season for him in the cash-rich and prestigious T20 tournament. The Rawalpindi Express made his debut against the Delhi Daredevils, now Capitals, at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

In his very first appearances, he ruffled the feathers of the Delhi batsmen. The pacer produced a magical spell of 3-0-11-4, which broke the backbone of the opposition batting. Chasing 134, Shoaib’s thunderbolts reduced the visitors to 28 for four in the fifth over. He picked up the wickets of Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, AB de Villiers and Manoj Tiwary to take the Knights to the driver’s seat.

In the end, the Daredevils were bowled out for 110 and Shoaib got the Player of the Match award. After the thrilling spell, Shah Rukh Khan, the Knight Riders’ owner lifted Akhtar up in sheer ecstasy. Thereafter, the seamer went on to play only a couple of more games where he got a solitary wicket. From 2009 onwards, Pakistan players were banned due to some political turmoil with India.

Shoaib Akhtar wants pacers like him in Team India

Shoaib expressed his opinions during an interactive session on Helo App. The 44-year-old also wants to become a coach of the Indian national cricket team. The Punjab-born reckons that by taking up the role, he could inject his qualities in the Men in Blue’s fast bowlers. Shoaib was someone, who was always at the batters’ faces, hurling yorkers and bouncers to exert pressure on them.

At the present point in time, Team India has quite a few decent fast bowlers. In fact, in overseas conditions, they haven’t flattered to deceive by any stretch of the imagination. The likes of Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, Ishant Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah have wreaked havoc.

Back in 2018-19, India won their maiden Test series on Australian soil after some sterling shows from the pacers. Not to forget Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who has made the leather talk to earn some significant success at the highest level. Their bench strength isn’t weak either.

Can't see him becoming a coach of either Team India or Kolkata Knight Riders. :inti

Expecting Indian fast bowlers association to send a legal notice to Shoaib questioning their ability to bowl fast.

KKR has the services of Wasim Akram and is highly regarded there. Even spinners there like Yadav has endorsed his impact on franchise. I doubt they would bring on board a meathead like Shoaib Akhtar in place of Wasim Akram.

Always trying so hard to get attention from the neighbours. This guy is another Major Sami in the making

LOL..Yeah lets make fast bowlers like actor sahib..bowl five overs and get injured for two matches..then go and weight lift and turn into a muscle bound giant whos knees and feet give way..smart..

Why doesn’t he coach in Pakistan??? What is this obsession with India haha you’ve already got all the money in the world, sure do an IPL contract but focus first on PSL and maybe coach U19 bowlers too... start your own academy. Then make your money in India

Good one :))) :)))

If Cricket, was an individual sport, I think a few rich players could have Shoaib on board as a personal coach.

I don't think his track record and personality test site make him fit to coach a set up because he's himself a rule breaker.

But there is no doubt, he would have invaluable insights to offer to any bowler aspiring to take him game to the next level.

Unfortunately cricket isn't a sport like that. It's a game of ache bache and a father figure like coach is there to babysit them.

Beg more Shoaib. This man doesn't have an ounce of self respect.

The shameless appeaser is at it again. Imagine having this guy as your role model.

If he was really serious about actually taking up a coaching job, he can do that in PSL and earn enough money. But this guy doesn't want to work hard. He would rather post attention seeking videos on youtube involving India and fill his stomach.

When was the last time one of these ex cricketers showed interest in coaching Pakistan or a domestic team?

No idea. We keep getting statements from M Yousuf and Younus Khan too but they never seem to actually coach youngsters. Meanwhile folks like Saleem Malik and M Asif are the ones itching to open up their academies  I don’t mind them passing on what they know in private capacities but seriously, why are none of the “normal” cricketers interested?

He would not do as a head coach but definitely is a good bowling coach. He helped Shami get his rhythm right during the 2015 WC.

I'd take him over Bharat Arun any day of the week. Bumrah, Shami and Ishant desperately need some coaching on daleri and badmashi.:)

Speaking on a PCB video

"If I was at my peak and was pairing with Imran Khan at his peak, and if we were bowling from opposite ends then our mindset would have been the same which was that we would not spare those stumps - that would have been our attitude"

"The only other bowler who can have my attitude and can bowl with the same anger and can scare batsmen like me will be Naseem Shah"

"So my pairing with an older bowler would have been with Imran Khan, and with a newer one, it would be Naseem Shah as long he has the same attitude as me"

So Naseem is both Akram and Akhtar’s ideal bowling partner. I really hope the kid lives up to it

I'm not totally sure what Shoaib's endgame is here but I feel pretty confident it's got something to do with India and their money.

Lol

even if you take it seriously i dont think shoaib akhtar would be a good technical coach at all

when you hear him speak and analyze there is literally zero analysis of the bowling style and intricacies.

at most he can be a glorified cheerleader pumping up the team

It won't happen.

Move on....next idea please.

Viru Sehwag is right.

Shoaib wants to help India because of money.

Pretty sad that he wants to train Indian bowlers when they don’t respect Pakistanis.

Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar said that he is open to coaching Indian bowlers and he believes that this spreading of knowledge will be beneficial for the game. In an interview on social networking app Helo, Akhtar made it clear that he has never stepped back from sharing his knowledge of the sport and he will be more than happy to teach Indian fast bowlers.

“I will definitely. My job is to spread knowledge. What I have learned is (ilm) knowledge and I will spread it. I will produce more aggressive, fast and more talkative bowlers than the current ones who will tell-off the batsmen in a way that you will enjoy a lot,” he said.

With the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Umesh Yadav in their arsenal, India currently have one of the best fast bowling units of the world and the pacers can reap huge benefit from someone like Akhtar, who has played international cricket for more than 12 years.

Akhtar also spoke about his early interactions with Sachin Tendulkar during the 1998 series.

“I had seen him but didn’t know how big a name he was in India. In Chennai, I got to know that he was known as a God in India. Mind you, he is a very good friend of mine. In 1998, when I bowled as fast as I could, Indian public celebrated with me. I have a big fan following in India,” Akhtar said.
