Would the MS Dhoni of 2007 select the MS Dhoni of 2017?

Interesting to look at this from this perspective. M.S Dhoni no doubt is one of the finest servants of BCCI and a great leader, player, Genius of the game. He made his mark by dropping senior, slightly less athletic players to field a younger, energetic team to create the new dynamic of Indian cricket.

Considering the current situation of Indian cricket, where it doesnt seem to be going downwards by any means, yet its not exactly heading towards anything significant either. Would Dhoni at such a stage of his career not be pondering on himself and asking the question that is he not a surplus to requirements and maybe its time that India develop a younger, more promising Keeper/batsman for the future. Dhoni, ideally should retire from the International scene or a captain with some vigour should really look to drop him the way he himself took the brave step all those years ago. I could be wrong, maybe M.S Dhoni does have a lot to offer even now, however this current situation clearly reminds me of a 'What goes around, comes around' scenario.

I highly doubt it, its sad to say but his best days are behind him and it's time for him to hang the boots.

Although I doubt he is going anywhere until the 2019 WC.

Even the Dhoni of the 2013 Champions Trophy team would not select the 2017 Dhoni. The guy is way past it. Just retire already.

Well to be honest the pitch in the last game was a very difficult wicket to bat on and hardly anyone managed to play very fast on it. Dhoni isn't the same anymore but he was able to extend his shelf life by batting up the order so I don't think he should retire yet. He should definitely stop playing T20's I think sooner or later since he does not offer much in that format anymore.

All the Dhoni bashing recently is premature. He is still averaging over 50 in ODIs in 2017. Maybe he isn't quite the finisher he was, but he still holds his own as a top 6 batsman.

Dhoni had to play slow as the Indians were not chasing a huge target. But there should have been a little bit more aggression. You are playing a highest level of Cricket .... and you just can't go in a cocoon and wait for the very last over. He hit NO boundaries ..... 54 off 114 ..... that is 10 maiden overs ..... unheard of .... specially from Dhoni !!!!! Love to hear what went on in the dressing room afterwards !!!! Well, the next match on the 6th, will be a real head knocker. Can't wait ..... I think the Indians will pull it out !!!!
