I am sure a lot of people in Pakistan employ 'chowkidars' who hold guns but will you own a gun and keep it with you for personal safety?

Studies have shown that most cases of domestic shooting is a result of the owner's own firearm.... so instead of enhancing personal security it puts you at more risk.

Back in Pakistan, I had two: an AK-47 for normal criminals, and a family cannon for the Taliban.

Categorically NO.

It’s an absurd notion that a gun of all things will keep you safe.

It will make you trigger happy, that’s for sure.

We have a few in our house. My favorite one is a vintage Holland & Holland double-barrel that my grandfather used for hunting.

I won't say they are for self-defense though.

A brown guy in the US with a fire arm raises a lot of red flags so no. In Pakistan, however, yes, definitely yes.

Absolutely not. I've lost my fair share of relatives to gun violence, the most recent only a few years ago (4 people, including a woman and a 14 year old). My family is primarily Peshawar/Nowshera/Charsadda based and there's a LOT of guns there. A few years ago a distant relative was shot over some petty enmity and his brother left his body lying on the street while he went and shot the guy who killed his brother. That's not something I want in my life and besides, there's a reason that all things being equal, gun owning societies are vastly more unsafe than those that don't allow civilians to own guns (Switzerland being an exception but there are reasons for that).

Yes! I don't want to be a sitting duck during some terror attack or robbery.
This is coming from a person who had a close call with an stray bullet at point blank range.

remember if you have a pistol this time, the other guy will bring a bigger gun next time - where does it stop?

Depends where I live really. If I did have one, it'd definitely be only for extreme emergencies, and I'd try not to bring too much attention to it.

Definitely not.

An argument of verbal fight can easily escalate into a gun shootout if guns are present.

Well, he can't carry a machine gun to rob me. I've seen endless places where arms could have stopped the murders. In police academy attack, the candidates were beating terrorists with sticks and whatever they could grab while they were spraying bullets. That is the most annoying thing one could face.

IF all of have firearms, will we all feel safe from each other?

Nobody in the society should possess firearms except the coercive arm of the state.

Nobody means nobody, and its the duty of the state to ensure that criminals dont get their hands on such weapons. Zero tolerance policy towards possession of guns. Jail offenders for 50 years so that people fear it.

Yes! I already own a shot gun, smith and wesson .44 revolver (classic) and S&M bodyguard 380 that I always keep with me.

Haan bhai ab bum wum bhi rakh lete. Wahi baaki reh gaya :yk

If I lived in rural USA or RSA I would get a shotgun.

No need for one in Britain.

depends on the society where you are living; I dont need one in Canada but I may need one if I start living in Pakistan

Thankfully I don't need one as my country isn't awash with guns like our neighbours across the pond.

I'd own a water gun that's for sure should do the trick :yk

School shootings are so common now that they don't even make the mainstream news channels nowadays.
