Let's say a genie grants you 2023 world cup final win in place of 0-4 phainty in both these test series that India won.

Would you take it ?

India at Brisbane today took tenacity and mental resilience in Sport to regions of the sublime and attained moral glory as few teams have ever done.Reminded one of an army resurrecting from the depths of despair to reach the pinnacle of glory.Cheteshawr Pujara was the epitome of grit and determination while Rishab Pnat was defiance or agression personified.Pnat gave a classical knockout Punch to steer India to glory but the architects of the win were Shardul Thakur and Wasington Sunder in the 1st innings.
After loisng key players through injuries I rank this win amongst India's 3 best series wins over and test victory amongst its 5 best ever.Considering the wicket to me it is India's 3rd best performance ever in a run chase to win a game.
I have never seen such a depth of tenacity by India ever if you recount the repairing jobs at Sydney and Brisbane and the revival at Melbourne.Nor have I witnessed such dashing killer instinct as Pant displayed who struck the pedal on the accelerator like an army batallion launching a combing operation.I can't forget the shots executed even by Washington Sunder with 49 runs needed of 7 overs which propelled India into banging the final nails in the coffin for a famous win.

It’s so close for me. Maybe World Cup by a hair. But honestly this is probably just as big a deal

I would have traded a potential 2023 win just for the series win in Australia in 2018 alone. Couldn't care less about pyjama cricket. But after witnessing all the insane drama and sub plots in one of the most epic series in test cricket history, this is not even a question. I don't think many English fans would be willing to trade their 2005 Ashes win over the world cup they won in 2019 eventhough it was their first world cup win ever. But I understand if some fans choose the world cup because desi cricket fans generally tend to love white ball cricket.

If you have already won a WC in recent times, then yes.

If not, then no.

For Indians (test lovers), Aus test series win is much bigger than WC.

2018 win was great.

But 2021 win was legendary stuff lol.

Congrats man...I had my doubts about the 2018 win but this team has completely silenced everyone including me.

Winning a test series in Aus with half the players injured....it's legendary.

For me a test series win in AUS/ ENG >= WC
As we have already won two, I am okay to trade :P

Winning an away Test series against a full-strength Australia outweighs winning EVERY World Cup!

When it's something as special as 2020-21 Australia away series, yeah!

But if you ask this to a South African, their answers maybe different.

Series victory against the GOAT Aus and West Indies teams away from home >>> Word Cup.

These are great victories and feel good for the teams who win but at the end of the day they are only bilateral series and most team play each once every other year so to swap world cup for these series is bit far fetched.

WC should be the pinnacle of CRICKET!!

For Australia world cup is no big deal anymore as they have won multiple times. For others may be. Yes world cup win is always a pinnacle. 1983 world cup win is still talked about event in Indian history. Having said 1981 MCG test win is also one of the highly talked about Test win in Indian history.

Every victory is worth having but WC win is not to be sacrificed. These bilateral series wins are great and feel good for about a month and then the next one starts and then the next one and before you know it they become old specially once the novelty of winning for the first time is lost.

Specifically for team like India, England and Australia who play a lot of bilateral series these kind of series will come and go.

Seems silly to me to compare a World Cup to any test series. How is winning the World cup comparable to winning against one country regardless of who it is. Also, it's something that people do all the time. Would Austalia value winning a test series in Pakistan as much as a World Cup. umm probably not. Sure it would be amazing to win a test series in Australia but a World Cup is something else.

To be honest World cups exist in cricket for the money and promotion.

It's one thing that it has been won mostly by the best team but it's not really the pinnacle of our sport as some put it.

Two top of the top level cricket nations locking horns over 4-5 tests makes for a hell of a contest.

World cup for me, i would consider series victory again Eng + Aus in the most recent tours at par with world cup.

It depends on the country

South Africa, Pakistan, New Zealand, West Indies, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka would take a WC. Coz they either haven’t won or it has been a long time since winning

But countries like India and England would take such a challenging back to back test series win

Also it’s not either or.
-Tests show the quality of the team
-ODIs are a good balance between Tests and T20Is, neither longer like tests (most don’t have time to watch tests) nor a tamasha cricket like T20s (which traditionalists won’t like)
-T20Is, IPL and other leagues are necessary for entertainment, sponsors and revenue generation which in turn can be used to invest in the domestic cricket and player development

India is the best country when it comes to cricket. They’re #1 in tests(not just ranking), two 50 over WCs and CTs, a T20I wc and has the IPL

In my opinion, for the super elite hard-core followers of Cricket, most likely the test series wins.

However, for your average joe, nothing trumps World Cup. When you do something great at world stage everyone knows about it from little kids to grandmas.

I'd take WC win over a test series win in Aus as a Pakistani fan.
Cause I know right after winning either, we'd go back to square one and probably lose the next series.

WC win would atleast come against atleast 10 teams.

Haha thanks buddy.

Pretty incredible series.

This series where underdogs prevailed over favourites will end up inspiring players & teams all over the world.

As a Pak fan, I would take 2 back to back overseas Test wins in Aus over the 2023 world cup.

Well, ask the posters of both set of nations, India and Pakistan, if they are willing to trade the test series victory in each others backyard for a test series win in Australia

Pakistan in India 1986
India in Pakistan 2004

Then we will see what poster say :yk
