Just check his average, strike rate and number of wickets in this series. Gupte had to play 5 matches to get 27 wickets and yasir took 25 in just 3 matches. Amazing numbers!

So the best performance by a touring spinner in WI. Yasir on course to being a legend!

Ashwin has an average of 23 and sr of 46 in westindies.

He didnt bowl that much i guess.

You can only compare to those who also played 3 matches. If he played 5 matches he'd have ended up with 40 wickets :yasir

Yasir is still by far the best given he only played 3 Tests in this series.

Was a bit disappointed with him yesterday. I thought bishop shouldn't have stood a prayer against him.
Great numbers though

Can't seem to find the best spinner in the world on that list? :ashwin shaz619 Mamoon Red Devil geraltofrivia

There is only ONE who sits alone on the throne of spin royalty, and his name is Yasir Shah. All the other so called spinners are rank roided up peasants

unnecessary dragging of Ashwin into the discussion.Ashwin played against WI side which was a little bit stronger in batting with Darren Bravo & Marlon Samuels & Blakewood in the team. Yet he avg:ed 23. Not far behind Yasir.

And if it is about over all record Ashwin still is the better if one dayers too is taken into equation. So why this unnecessary comparison?

ATG Bradman of bowling is nowhere to be found lol

We all know that leg spinners are the REAL spinners!
:yasir
Off spinners are: S.A.W.F.T...SAWFT!!

Slightly going off topic here but how many of you know the circumstances under which Subhash Gupte's career was ended.

During India's tour of England in 1961/62 - Gupte's teammate Kripal Singh asked the hotel receptionist out for a date to which she refused and complained to the Indian team manager.

The BCCI was looking for a way to drop Subhash due to his old age and reprimanded Subhash for not controlling Kripal and preventing him from calling the receptionist

The selectors agreed to drop them both for upcoming tour of WI and Subhash never played for India again...

^^^Wow, that actually trumps any/all stupid moves made by PCB/Pak selectors I think!

Wow and Shane Warne has only taken 17 wickets in 7 matches.

Now I know Warne played a much stronger team and in vastly different conditons, but still.

Stats can often be misleading but, even if he had not been on that list no one can dethrone yasir from the best spinner in the world category, in my opinion. Not only is his bowling exemplary but, his demeanour on the field carry immense relevance which no stat can ever point out, Quite similar to what Hussey had been for the Aussies, Dhoni for India, who still is the best. Such individuals are an absolute asset to have for any successful team.

I think, Gupte was married to a Trinidadian girl (?) & he spent his time in both countries, which didn't go well with the then Indian management. He was officially just 32 on his last Test - even if I take few years, he was too young & too good to be dropped. In his penultimate Test, he took a 5for (& bowled probably 75+ tight overs), therefore don't think fitness or performance was an issue.

Fantastic classical leggi, could turn big & had all sorts of variations - among very, very few (if not only) Indian spinner with a better away record than home.

Wonder if Misbah's captaincy has anything to do with it too. Misbah might have been a great captain for spinners, and thus allowed Yasir to flourish. OR the other way around.

Best spinner in the world bowled 57 overs less than what yasir has bowled in this carribean tour and ashwin played one more test than yasir.

Strike rates are comparable at 45 and 46.
Ashwin averaged 23 and yasir 21.

Yasir took 25 wickets @ 21 and sr of 45
Ashwin too 17 wickets @23 and sr of 46.

Ashwin bowled less than Yasir as 2 of the games were badly effected by Rain.

One Test was washed out and the drawn Test, more than 100 overs were lost due to Rain.

I know , i believe that ashwin is the best spinner in the world. This wasnt a sarcastic comment when i said "best spinner in the world".

Oh really?

I thought he married after settling down in the WI once his playing days were over. I could be wrong though.

the numbers are amazing but the batting was probably one of the weakest in test playing nations, but again he has done amazingly well against the best n longest batting in the world (england tht is) so well done Yasir Shah.

love ur energy and enthusiesm...

The pitches on WI tour were slow and even if the ball was turning, bouncing it was extremely slow which made it easier for the WI batsmen to play Yasir and it took him a lot more overs to get his wickets. Had the wickets had pace in them, there is no way would Chase be able to easily negotiate with Yasir.

Ashwin bowled enough. This is weak logic to use that

What is a more solid argument is that Adhein was sharing wickets with an inform Jadeja. While it works both ways in that Ashwin gets support and new batsmen it also means there's less batsmen he can get out

However all things said and done it won't be wrong to say Yasir outperformed Ashwin in this West Indies your
