What's new

Yasir Shah takes 3/62 as New Zealand end Day 1 of the 3rd Test on 229/7

Hassan Ali Cheetah!

Deserved a wicket, has been bowling beautifully.

This is an away side out of their element defending against Yasir Shah after being 4 down early... it's not the same thing.

I explicitly pointed that out - home team batting extremely slow in the first innings in their own conditions.

Also, we have no one after this pair.

Context.

How often do you see a home team do what Pakistan did in the last Test?

Bat at @ 2 an over at home after being 0-1 in the series.
The home side won by an innings. Who really cares how it happened, as long as it happened? Would you rather our boys went all daredevil and threw their wickets away?

Exactly what Haris Sohail did in the first Test. He threw his wicket away to two rubbish deliveries from Sodhi.

This is why you need both your spinners to perform in UAE. Worst pitches for pacers.

This is the difference between Kane and the Big 2.

Smith and Kohli would have gone big after being set.

which in my opinion after being 0-1 in a home series was pathetic .
That's the point!

We're woeful against spin so it makes sense for us (the away team) to be more cautious, add to that this NZ team is probably happy with 1-1.

Good captaincy to have a short mid-wicket to a set KW.

from Twitter : Fun fact: 2018 is Test cricket's debutiest year in history, with 62 new caps handed out so far (and probably a couple more to come).

Helped that 21 players made debuts when Ireland and Afghanistan played their inaugural Test matches, of course...

Come on Hassan get your line right and send your bunny on his way.

Pakpassion should ask Inzi the reason behind selecting Asif and Hafeez? Too much work load will destroy Yasir.

Top teams nowadays seems to have an enforcer at number 6-7. England has Buttler, South Africa with De Kock, NZ with Colin de Grandhomme, India has Pant but Rohit Sharma would be a great addition as well.

CDG may not have worked for NZ on this tour but he is certainly capable of changing the whole scenario of the match in an hour. Who knows he might do here in Abu Dhabi. CDG is extremely dangerous.

Pakistan needs to have one of its own. Sarfraz plays at a good SR but needs to be highly consistent to have an impact on games. The one time he did it recently was against Australia in the 1st innings at Abu Dhabi and it seemed to win Pakistan the match.

Sharp turn from Bilal. Just evades Asad Shafiq.

207 runs in a days cricket.

Y cant you look at the bigger picture.
Pak played cautiously ensure NZ get exposed against spin on a weary surface against Yasir come day 3,4,5.
Having played in UAE for so long they read the pitch well.
The game didnt even enter 5th day.

Even Kane said Pak played the 'perfect' game

Bilal deserves that wicket- he's been threatening to do that all day.

Also Asad Shafiq has lifted the curse and taken a catch of Bilal :)).

I tried telling that to our fellow posters but they made their mind about criticizing Pak management no matter what - to me that was a masterstroke.

Bring in Shaheen with the new ball to clean up the tail.

Picking up hacks like Southee and CDG won’t fool me. There are better spinners than Bilal in domestic cricket.

As soon as New Zealand have tried to up the scoring rate they have lost wickets. Seems as though tuk tuk maybe the way to do well on this pitch.

On UAE tracks his bowling isn't going to work because he relies heavily on bounce, same reason why Lyon has also struggled here.

I do think he could be a good option for SA although Yasir's form makes it difficult to leave him out. Having said that I'm not convinced Yasir can deliver even at least a an economical display of defensive bowling on non-turning wickets. He's an attacking bowler but his lack of variety will be the reason why I think he may struggle like we saw in Australia. I would happily be proven wrong though.

Also SA are susceptible to right arm finger spin as evident by Moeen Ali destroying their batting in England's last home and away series against them.

Seems to be something in in for the spinners. Not going to be easy for us when we bat.

I’ll play Yasir over the fake all rounder any day.

Lol how is that missing? Impact a bit outside off and missing leg-stump :))

This pitch has gone bonkers.

Hope this pitch flattens out a bit on day 2,3.
At the moment its offering a lot of bite to the spinners

This is a fantastic position to be in after losing the toss. Everybody seems to have bowled well, including the unfairly maligned Bilal Asif. Need to ensure New Zealand do not get past 250, however.

Kiwis have recovered well from the time I left at lunch. If they can end the day 7 down, probably an even day.

Anything aboe 250 and pak batters will be shivering on the crease.

PAK will need a lead close to 100 here to cover 4th innings batting. No reason to think this track should get better for batting.
