Pep Guardiola has agreed a three-year contract to become Manchester City manager in the summer.

The 45-year-old, currently in charge at Bayern Munich, will replace Manuel Pellegrini, who will leave on 30 June.

A statement from City said Chilean Pellegrini, 62, was "fully supportive" of the announcement being made.

The club said negotiations with former Barcelona coach Guardiola had been "a recommencement of discussions that were curtailed in 2012".

Pellegrini succeeded the Italian in 2013 and took the club to a Premier League and League Cup double the following season.

He has won 64 of his 99 Premier League games as a manager, a record only eclipsed by Jose Mourinho, who won 73 of his opening 99 league matches as Chelsea boss.

City could yet win four trophies under Pellegrini this season.

They are already through to the final of the League Cup and are second in the league behind Leicester City.

The Blues are also through to the knockout stages of the Champions League and will play Chelsea in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Of course he would gone to Man City. That's the club with the most amount of money in the BPL. He will get many top players at Man City. Who knows he may even get Messi and Man City will walk the league and may even win the Champions League and every one be like oh Pep Guardiola is a great manager. Looks at the teams that he has managed. When you have players like Messi, Henry, Ibra, Eto, Xavi, Puyol, Iniesta, Robben, Muller, Ribery, Lahm, Lewandowski, Bastian, Neuer, Gotze you would win something regardless of who the manager is because these players are born winners. This Pep guy is a fraud. Good manager but not a great manager. If he was such a great manager, he would have gone to a lesser team like Tottenham that are improving and he would make them into champions in a few seasons but he goes to a already established top team with a billionaire owner. What a fraud.

So how many top manager have done this, all top manager go to clubs who can fight for no.1

Was fergie a poor manager - never left UTD, well known that he rejected inter because in the Italian league you can be sacked within a few months.

Haha. City decide. Time for mediocre and substandard teams like United and Liverpool to be exposed.

Fergie took United from a middle table side that were struggling into a team that went on to dominate English football for 20 years. Pep only goes to already established top teams in the league. He is overrated.

Tiki Taka in the EPL .. interesting to see how that will work out.

Also Yaya and Pep had some beef from their Barca days ... will they clash again ?

Barca were a mess when he took them over ... his system does work ... better than anyone elses I feel.

However he will have to make some smart transfers .. City need another quality striker to partner Kun .. and he needs to replace those two dunces they have at center backs currently.

Which team did you support before the Arab money?

I didn't knew much about football before and basically started following football after Aguero's stoppage time winner to win the title. So, it's always been City for me.

Anyway we'll see how much longer you can cope with up embarrassment that United team brings onto itself week in week out.

Toure would be offloaded for good at this season's end. Has been a lazy jogger in the middle all of this season.
Left backs currently playing would also likely be offloaded. I expect Sterling and de Bruyne to be developed into world's best under Pep.
I think the team would look something like this next year

Hart/Lloris/some other world class k(Hart is overrated IMO)

Kompany
Otamendi
Zabalata
Alaba/Rodriguez
Pogba
Verrati/Fernandinho(City's best player this season so maybe he stays)
De Bruyne
Sterling
Silva
Aguero

think Manutd would be in serious trouble if they dont make it into CL next season.. Martial will definitely be poached by the bigger CL clubs. I don't expect much from Giggs as a manager..untried..untested.. not many good players would be queuing up to sign up and play for Giggs in a non-CL team

United it self is a big club , Martial is not good enough to play for a bigger club like Real , Atletico , Bayern , Barca , PSG or Dortmund

Probably not Real.. but Martial to PSG I'd definitely not rule out ..all depends on his showing in the Euros. and PSG can stump up the cash that would be needed

Lol it's not as embarrassing as Man City were before the Arab money. And I remember that goal from Aguero. It's funny that both times City have won the league since the Arab takeover, they did it due to choke from other teams. Despite spending all that money they couldn't win the league in a dominant fashion and we all know about their pathetic performances in Europe. What a joke club :))). City are lucky that their rise coincided with the decline of Man united but don't worry we will be back in a few seasons time so until then enjoy all the success you can because it won't last forever.

What's United's expenditure like, since LvG came in? :23:

We have to spend money in order to compete with the likes of Chelsea and Man City. That's modern football. And besides we were always gonna have a period of struggle after Fergie regardless of how much money we spent. That's how important he was to our club.

He took Aberdeen to a European trophy and then transformed United who hadn't won a title for 20 years before he joined.

Hardly the same as Barca, Bayern and City.

bu that is what football is know about, manager can only stay at clubs for a few yrs, mourinho aint different either - yes he had success at porto but didier deschamps got to the final with basically 1 good player (ludovic guilly) who became a flop at barca.

Fergie took 7 yrs to win anything at UTD, you cannot do that in todays game at the top with these clubs anymore (bar wenger- most arsenal fans want him out this yr if no prem title). Even benitez said this at pool

The thing i dont want to call him a overrated manager now (as ive said it in the past) - reality is that he was part off the game which didnt have that much money as a player and now he can earn $$$- which i can fully understand.
I cant blame him moving from bayern (as going by what the press have said - bayern board decided like 2 months ago he wont be staying)- didnt like his style off play.

People are moaning that he chose city - ok, maybe him or agent knew that at arsenal they wont have the money to spend which he needs, be honest arsenal have like 200m in bank but will only spend 70m tops - which still wont win them the PL,
at chelsea they still havent learnt anything in sticking with a manager - look at hiddink doing a good job but everyone linking them with a new manager in summer.
Man utd - again dont look like they have the players to suit his style off play and will have to spend big again this summer.
City he's thr for 1 reason and thats to win the CL- considering how poor they have been under pellegrini - that would be pressure for PEP to do - as they look mentally weak in it.

I do not buy that he will be able to get messi/suarez/neymar at city - thats stupid, 2-3 yrs time messi will decline and barca will build around neymar. Yes they have money but they will hit that FFP rule.

The PL would be a true test of Guardiola's pedigree as a great manager. With the utmost respect he was in the strongest teams in La Liga and Bundesliga so he has never experienced a title race as tight as the one found in PL. Small clubs stand a much bigger chance of defeating big teams and that is something Pep will have to get used to.

He might also have to adapt his playing style to reflect the physical nature of the PL, I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't manage to win PL in his first season.

His Bayern teams have been resoundly beaten by Spanish teams

His success at Barcelona was mainly due to the youth culture embedded into the senior set up
With guardiola in charge of the likes of messi and pique before they stepped up

I could be wrong and he could get the best out of mangala, de bruyn and aguero too

Lol, the way Man United fans are burning in this thread is hilarious, the agony and bitterness. :)))

Guardiola is a world class manager, but yes this is his biggest challenge yet. I do believe he will pass it with flying colors. Man City the team to beat for the next 3-4 seasons in the league, but Guardiola's biggest challenge will be to win the CL with them.

Barca were a mess when he took them over ... his system does work ... better than anyone elses I feel.

However he will have to make some smart transfers .. City need another quality striker to partner Kun .. and he needs to replace those two dunces they have at center backs currently.

Don't explain these things to people who think football is all about the Premier League, and you cannot be a great player unless you prove yourself in this league (where Leicester is top) and that is why Ronaldo is better than Messi :))

Guardiola is a genius, people are conveniently forgetting the mess (as you mentioned) Barca were in before he took over. He did many things, but his two key ones had a massive impact:

1. Replace Yaya with Busquets

2. Make Messi false 9

I remember people criticizing him at that time for showing Yaya the door and replacing him with an academy player who is supposedly 'crap'.

Of course, the second one needs no explanation. He helped Messi transform into the most devastating attacker in history.

Guardiola is a visionary manager and has the capability to think outside the box. I don't think anyone other manager would have been able to convert a world class full-back like Lahm into a world class DM.

However, it will take some time for him to shape the City squad to his needs. Idiots like Yaya will be out of the door, and I'm interested to see how Silva fits into his system.

Apparently Ilkay Gundgoan is going to City next season ..City is gonna run away with PL next season therefore for Arsenal it is now or never ...Maybe Pep's city may save PL's face in Europe

Pep to conduct Man City overhaul

Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak insists Pep Guardiola will be given the funds to conduct a squad overhaul this summer.

Guardiola officially starts work as City’s new manager next month, with the Spaniard expect to transform the club back into contenders for both the Premier League and Champions League.

Despite winning the League Cup, City massively underwhelmed last season, finishing fourth in the Premier League, and there is now an acceptance the club needs some new blood on the pitch.

Midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has already been signed from Borussia Dortmund, and Khaldoon has suggested fans should expect to see more new faces at the Etihad Stadium.

“He (Guardiola) has a particular way he wants to manage the squad and play, and I think we’ll need particular players who will join.

“There will also be some players where the time is right for them to move on. So I think we will have some changes this summer. We will invest as we have always done in this club, in this team.

“We will provide the necessary resources for Pep to build a team that has the ambition and the capability to go and win back this Premier League, to go as far as we can and try to win the Champions League, and keep pushing in the cups.”

However, Khaldoon also emphasised a key factor in Guardiola being recruited was his approach to youth development at his previous clubs Bayern Munich and Barcelona.

When asked about Guardiola bridging the gap between the academy and the first team, Khaldoon said: “That is one of the reasons why Pep was so highly considered by us.

“That is really that ethos that we have at Manchester City, and that I think Pep believes to the bone. He has done it at Barcelona and at Bayern Munich, even with abundance of talent he had in both first teams.

“Pep always has a knack for talent and he loves to find young players who have incredible talent. He finds that talent, nurtures it and you see them evolve and succeed in both the first teams he has had.

“Today, at our club, we have that – I think we have incredible talent today. This is the first time in years since we started this experience that truly, and at every level almost within the club, we have incredible talent.

“We are competitive with a lot of talent across all age levels. I think Pep will enjoy that and find a lot of gems that we are going to produce out of that.”

He added: “We would like to have the maximum amount of players in the first team coming out of our academy, but we also have to recognise the Premier League is evolving very quickly.

“The level of competition and quality in the Premier League is remarkable – there is no easy game, home or away. I think winning the Premier League is getting more and more difficult, and will get tremendously more difficult next year.”
