Have seen brilliant batting performance of very team so far, including Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. But not yet Pakistan's

Pakistan has won against the number one team South Africa but it was the bowling that displayed brilliance.. also it was the DLS and rain trunacted match.

Can Pakistan bat like the other teams have batted? Especially if it wants to go beyond the semi finals

Some big question marks remain but they have not peaked yet and their best XI and batting order have not been featured, hopefully everything will click during the game against Lanka

Batting first, Malik might play a big innings. Pradeep is bowling well, so it won't be easy for phails like Azhar and Hafeez. Sarfraz has to stand up.

India - nothing clicked
SA - bowling clicked (first half), fielding levels at 75%
SL - going for a batting blitz by Malik and an all out onslaught on the field with the ball with SL reeling at 100-5.

The better batting performance should be the difference between a win or loss.

I think Lanka are an exciting batting side on flat wickets. Pakistan will do well to cope up with the pressure. Good luck

I would like to see

Azhar
Fakhar
Babar
Safaraz
Malik
Imas
Sadab
Fahim Ashraf

Am hoping for the same mate! It's a great opportunity for us to peak at the right time, I have no doubt that once we're in the semi's we can dethrone England and I in fact relish facing them!

May be Babar Azam would.
Haris Sohail could have but I doubt if he would get a chance to play.

Pak Team might get to the SFs & thats abt it.....In a huge tournament like this,Every aspect of Ckt is checked & I simply don't see them chasing >250 totals against quality teams like Eng,SA or Ind....Ind Bashers plz read this post logically & dont "auto-bash"

Pakistan did not have a single good batting performance in the last 2 world cups. They may qualify for the semi-final but do not expect any of the Pakistani batsman to hit a 80 ball hundred type inning.

We rarely do good batting. At best 270 or 280 would be Pak at it's best wen others are comfortably passing 300.

Fakhar Zaman gave us slight glance yes otherwise we are yet to see Pakistan fire power.

In my opinion Hafeez should heads up and pull up his sleeves and do the dew (due)...Sarfraz as captain should also show us that he is being the right choice as capatain at International level.

Pakistan Firepower sounds like an oxymoron these days. Hopefully we bat first and score 350 against lankans.

Only if Fakhar gets a hundred, we can make a big total, otherwise it's our bowling only whom we can depend upon.

The guy would just be playing his second game and so much expectation already

Fakhar will probably only score about 15-20 odd. It is better if the rest of the batsman aim to play at 90-100 SR and not show too much "grit and temperament" by playing at 70 SR.

I think we would have chased that total against South Africa with a building partnership by Malik and Babar, it was the first time the two were batting together and I personally think they were on their way to work well together. If you get rid of useless players like Hafeez at 4 who just eat up dot balls and put immense pressure on their partners, we suffocate. Hafeez really needs to move down the order and go after Imad or something, there's no place for him at the top or middle.

I actually wish it didnt rain in the S. Africa game so that we could have won that fair and square and wouldnt have had to worry about stuff like this.

I am not expecting any special for Fakhar Zaman but just replying to the OP. My expectations are all from the old horses.

When was the last great batting performance from Pakistan in an ODI ICC tournament?

The previous one I remember was 2009 Champions Trophy vs India such has been the poor performance of the batting department.

Not every bowler gets the steep bounce of Morkel. We DO NOT need centuries. We need one big partnership and the rest chipping in with decent scores and good strike rate will do it.

Fakhar was hitting well until Morkel, Malik looks in very good touch, Hafeez (no matter how bad ) thrives against bowling unit like SL, Sarfraz Would like SL bowling, we have good bottom half batting unit to score quick. I have a good feeling against SL. It is anyone's game but I like our chances and probably will see a strong batting performance against SL.

If not for Malik's little cameo at the end of the last match, we would be struggling to chase SA's paltry total. Seems like Hafeez has taken Babar under his tutelage and turned him into another dot ball machine. I've been disappointed with the way Babar has been batting ever since the series against England. It's all well and good scoring hundreds for fun against a really poor side like Windies, but if you're as good as everyone is making you out to be, you have to show up in big matches, especially at a tournament.

The most frustrating thing about our batting so far is we aren't even playing our best XI or the right batting order. It's right there for everyone to see how Sarfraz should be batting at 4 and not Hafeez, plus the inclusion of Haris. Sigh.

317/6 vs Kenya in 2011 WC.

337/6 vs UAE in 2015 WC.

I wonder why the PCB doesn't think logically I mean if we are gonna lose might as well lose with some youngsters instead of carrying tested failures like hafeez riaz and azhar Ali. Who makes these decisions I wonder what the process for selection looks like?

They played well in practice match

Are due surely. Hope Sarfraz plays at 4

You know you're clutching at straws when you have to pull out performances against minnows.

Would you call these 'great' outings?

Problem is our batters perform and they think they have done a historical thing and should be celebrated country wide. When Eng and India batters do it day in day out like a normal job.

Sri Lanka has allowed some of our most mediocre cricketers to build a longer career than they deserve (afridi, Hafeez).
So this match against sl should definitely see a batting performance from Hafeez or Malik.
Question for Hafeez will be whether: his love for SL attack > his long established record as a choker in must win games.
If I were SL, I would bounce Pakistan's batsmen relentlessly

Not but it is the best we have produced. We failed against all the top teams during the 2015 WC and only win against them was against SAF where our bowling stepped up.

In the 2011 WC - we ended up chasing against all the big teams except SL - even then we would muster only around 267 which turned out to be just enough.

Less said about 2013 CT - the better...

This is why I find this thread bewildering, the last time Pakistan did well vs decent opposition whilst batting in an ICC ODI competition was 2009 and yet this is surprising to some on here.
