So Shehryar Khan is retiring out in a few weeks time.

Now, let's for a second imagine you have gotten an invitation from the Board of Governors (BoG) that you have been selected to become head of the PCB. Now for all you that have been on this forum for a while (also those that haven't and lurkers), you guys have always been pretty vocal of what you expect from the PCB Chairman and what exactly they are doing wrong. Well now is your chance.

One catch, the BoG have asked you to submit a proposal of what you plan to do in your term, changes to policy, implementing a new policy, your team that you will select (i.e. selectors, coaches, captains, etc).

Tell us what would you do differently, how would you go about making a difference on Pakistan Cricket.

Who would you put in key positions? What positions would you eliminate? Make it interesting, any posters on this forum that you think would be ideal to fulfill positions?

You have been elected to a 3-year term, time to make difference. :sarf

1. I will stop wasting time and money on trying to host series until terrorism in Pakistan is obviously over.

2. I will split the hosting of Pakistan's home series between England, South Africa and the UAE.

3. I will tackle nepotism and favouritism. For example, I want statistics to justify the selection - even for camps - of relatives of office bearers.

4. I will introduce the same quotas I oppose in South Africa. But not racial quotas - age quotas.

5. I will also introduce an age limit of 55 for selectors and the senior national coach

1. Fire all dinosaurs (Bari, Subhan, Shiekh, Haroon, etc etc etc)

2. Advertise for all those positions vacated and employ people on merit

3. Reduce operating costs by getting rid of unwanted staff (both management level and lower staff)

4. Set up a panel comprising of five ex-cricketers who have a keen eye on domestic cricket to suggest what needs to be done to improve domestic cricket. The committee would have two month deadline. Committee advised to work on a PSL style structure for domestic cricket. PSL teams and owners to be involved in developing structure. 16 cricketing regions of the country each with own PSL team that will compete in two or three levels of domestic cricket.

5. Each domestic team to have a shadow team comprising of u19 players. The shadow teams will follow the same cricketing calendar as the main teams. Atleast three or four of the top u19 performers inducted in the main teams at the end of each season.

6. Any player who remains uncapped after having reached the age of 35 will be asked to retire from domestics. Can't have oldies stopping younger players from coming through.

7. Attractive pay scales for domestic and international cricketers and regular fitness tests for all players. Reduce pays or docking of pay for players whose fitness parameters are not within acceptable range or are on the decline. Continued violation shall result in expulsion from team.

8. Ensure quality and type of domestic balls is exactly the same as those employed in international cricket.

9. Regular A and u19 team tours. Teams required to have atleast 4-5 tours within a year.

10. Senior level curator staff to be sent for training to Australia/England on how to develop modern day flat pitches and not the slow, damp pitches we get.

11. Employ competent selection committee with regular checks and balances with regards to selection decisions. Selection committee required to justify every single selection decision with a report sent to chairman.

This should do for now :yk

Interesting.

That last point, mind elaborating on this one a bit. I see why you're doing this because you want "modern" thinking around. I definitely think people under 55 are present in Pakistan with the same mentality as the current lot, and then there's those that are 55+ who can produce good results. How about, if you had options to bring in foreign selectors, would you still apply the same rule?

Mind naming people that you would put in key positions? How would you tackle nepotism and favouritism? Would be interesting you use people from this forum to fill positions.

1. I will stop thinking of bringing cricket to pakistan for now concentrate on playing as much cricket as possible around the globe.

2. I will cancel all unneccesary post in PCB. get rid of people who influence others, nepotism and red tapism.

3. I will try to improve the image of pakistani team by emphasising more on education regarding conducting one self and behaviour. How to be good atPR especially on foreign tours.

4. changes in domestic cricket depending on suggestions by local coaches and staff.

5. Try and encourage the goverment to build hotel complex inside the proximity of the stadium so the foreign team doesnt have to travel by bus and does not come in contact with general public.

6. make sure to bring in a motivational speaker or a pychiatrist before a big tournament to get players mentally prepared.

Start by firing most of the employees, sparing only those who aren't a waste of space.

Appoint competent people in all positions.

Make sure salaries, etc. are reasonable and fair. Paid vacations, unnecessary luxuries, etc. shall be abolished.

Strive to eliminate all forms of corruption, nepotism and pro-seniority biases and agendas.

Revamp the domestic structure by appointing MMHS as the director of all domestic cricketing matters.

Hire Chief Destroyer to work with talented youngsters and ensure they are able to fine-tune the technical aspects of their game.

Make sure that Mickey Arthur is given a long run as coach, and the selection committee picks players on merit with zero tolerance for TTFs. Talent should be nurtured and the focus should be on building a strong team for the future. No more nonsensical short-term fixes.

/Dream

Show cause notices would instead be served as marching orders. :yk

If I was offered the position. I think we have everyone on this forum to fulfil key positions. Before posting my "cabinet" let me first start with what changes I would make:

1. Like mentioned by a few above, I would definitely clean house. A good purging would be in order. From top to bottom.

2. Would introduce US style high school cricket competitiveness in regions. Here there is plenty of high schools and college rivalry that really hones skills. I think this would be a huge hit in Pakistan (but in order for this to happen we need fix education structure). I think, if we make a U19 type of PSL tournament that pays some amount of money, it would motivate youngsters a lot. Like college football or basketball but with a pay incentive.

3. Stadium renovation, we need to rebuild and build new stadiums throughout Pakistan. Would designate a special team that would look into this and make sure that we implement on this.

4. Revamp domestic structure. Need to pay our cricketers at all levels more along the lines of international scales.

5. Qualified coaches, even if that means we need to build an in-house institution so coaches can get there own certifications.

Those are just some of the major changes that would be implemented under my chairmanship.

People from the forum that I would ask to fulfil positions:

1. For selectors, I would have: Junaids, Chief Destroyer, @MeInG

2. Director of Cricket: MMHS

3. Director of Domestic Cricket: Convict (would have to learn about Pakistan Domestic operations, I have no doubts that he can do it)

4. Statistician: WebGuru

5. PCB foreign relations operations: cricketjoshila (I'm sure he would go that extra yard to make sure PCB interests are protected)

6. Head of NCA operations: Chief Destroyer (yes, you will have dual role, cost savings as well), Syed1 (need an enforcer), Square Drive

Some of the positions I would fill.

1)I would at first remove all those people who have been in their positions for ages but have done nothing substantial(Haroon Rasheed,Wasim Bari,Subhan Ahmed)

2)I would change the QeA trophy format to make sure there is equality b/w regions and departments and then make sure the same format remains for a long period of time.

3)Will hire foreign trainers for NCA e.g Fielding coach,Batting coach,Bowling coach etc. Then I will hire a Pakistani to deputise under them and in time, take over duties permanently.

4)Make sure to construct at least one Cricket Academy in each province.

5)Develop under-17 cricket and under-19 cricket even further.

6)I would not talk to the media every day and won't make senseless statements.

7)Will try to mend relations with any board that we have bad relations with,as long as they are willing too.

1. Get rid of all members of PCB and Najim Sethi. Hire a new team - everyone from a cricket background.

2. Inform Inzimam and selection committe - focus on youth and not tried and trusted failures.

3. Phase out Hafeez, Malik, Akmals - search for new talent.

4. Pitches. Bring back flat Pakistan pitches. This will ensure that only the best pacers will take wickets. Too many trundlers in Pak cricket nowadays due to poor pitches helping their bowling.

5. Introduce competetive cricket leagues for school kids of ages 10-16. They have to start young.

6. Introduce a competitive constract structure for all players.

7. Provide incentives for domestic cricket - good quality pitches - good rewards - competitive 4 day cricket. Good quality, competitive 4 day cricket has to be promoted along with the 50 over and PSL leagues.

8. Arrange A tours very early in all countries. (age 16 onwards).

1) Say goodbye to Intikhab Alam, Haroon Rasheed, Shakeel Shaikh and all other PCB employees who have failed repeatedly in their roles yet somehow retain a job for life. PCB appointments, including that of the Chairman, must occur through a meritocratic recruitment process not through a coronation courtesy of the Patron like we've just seen with Najam Sethi.

2) No changes to team management or selection panel. Give Mickey Arthur a new contract through to the 2019 WC. Renew Grant Flower's contract. We've reached #1 in the Test rankings and won the CT on their watch - no need for unnecessary changes.

3) Install a Director of Cricket akin to Andrew Strauss's role at the ECB. This Director of Cricket should be the link between the Board and the team management. He oversees the national team, A team, U19 team, domestic cricket, coaches, selectors and determines the centrally contracted players. I'd appoint Misbah-ul-Haq for this role as he has the right temperament and has first-hand knowledge of the problems of today's domestic scene. Please no more ex-players like Javed Miandad who are only interested in collecting paychecks for doing nothing.

4) Hire Andy Atkinson to oversee a Curator's Training Programme and equip local curators with the skills needed to prepare quality pitches. Order a wholesale revamp of pitches across Pakistan's primary cricketing centres (Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Multan, Sialkot etc). There must be a VARIETY of pitches to ensure our players can adapt to ANY condition. Karachi, Faisalabad and Multan can be traditional slow, low Asian turners. Lahore can be an Australian-style flat but hard and bouncy wicket. Rawalpindi and Peshawar can be English-style seam-friendly wickets.

Also, STOP the overuse of pitches. In England, a pitch is used for 10-12 days over the course of two seasons. Yet our grounds have cricket played on them regularly for eight months a year. The same pitch is used twice or more in a month - no wonder domestic pitches are in such poor state.

5) Dukes ball for all FC matches.

6) Fitness clauses inserted into central contracts. Failure to meet fitness standards should result in fines or docking of salaries.

7) Restructure the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy so that there are 12 city-based FC teams in one league. Between 1989-1999 we had no more than 10 teams in QEA Trophy so its ridiculous how bloated it has become. Fewer teams ensure you separate the wheat from the chaff with quality of competition the priority.

Also, its time to do something that's long overdue - ask for departments to sponsor a region and give the department a seat on that region's governing board. Nobody is interested in watching Banks play Airlines.

8) More investment in PCB's anti-corruption unit to combat the scourge of fixing.

9) Thorough audit of PCB finances and cut back on wasteful expenditure. We don't have the BCCI's revenues or yet we behave as if we do with PCB executives racking up large bills on foreign trips. We have to tighten our belts without international cricket at home.

10) Increase the amount of A team tours in the calendar to give players exposure to foreign conditions.

I'll throw out a question that hasn't been addressed yet before I offer my own responses:

How are you going to make sure the PCB MAKES MONEY? Cost cutting is great and I'm on board with it. But if we can't hold international matches at home, there has to be some thought on how to generate cash. That will help build the infrastructure to develop cricket to modern levels in Pakistan.

Why can't a former respected cricketer become the Chairman instead of the usual loony toons?

Cost cutting would definitely lead to an increase in profits. Also, with a better system in place, one would hope better talent comes through/youngsters have a better chance of succeeding in international cricket because flaws would be identified quicker, rather than they find out when they come into the international side. With such changes, the teams marketing becomes better with boards asking for more series (side would be more competitive), driving profits up. PSL would be another factor, if we can improve this further, that's a whole new beast in terms of generating revenue for the PCB.

ok, but that would just be one part of the pie. What else would you do? You can't just sit there and fire people all day :harby

I would create a framework to help out ex players instead of hoping they will find employment somewhere as taxi drivers etc

Put Cricketing brains in charge of all cricketing affairs. The right people must be the ones taking care of all Cricket related matters. Only a certain number of chances should be given to unfit players like Umer Akmal before they're permanently shown the exit door. Salaries should be the same for all players, incentives for those who perform exceptionally well series by series. Forget international Cricket in Pakistan for the next two years instead try to arrange some good away series against top sides.
