What slow batting? He scored a century at a SR of 103...
LOL the innings mentioned in the thread you quoted also resulted in a Babar century at a SR of 100+
Why aren’t such tough questions asked of Sarfaraz? Such as “how do you feel about not finishing the game for pakistan?”
How often has he helped us through now?
Pakistan just lost a match to freaking Afghanistan.... alarm bells should be going off instead people are concerned that a journalist asked Bobby a sharp question which was completely on point. Perhaps the wording were a bit rude and unrefined but can't say Bobby didn't have it coming. Today like countless times before Babar scored a ton at an ok pace and just when the time came to up the scoring rate and actually cash in he got out. It wasn't the first time it happened and definitely won't be the last time.
Babar's response explains why he'll never be a great player. So meek! He basically let a nobody call him out like that and basically sat there like a sissy!
Come on, dude! Show some guts and give that journalist a piece of your mind! Still addressing him as 'sir'![]()
No personality or character!
Who mentioned 100+ SR?
BTW - I am a Babar fan, and my point was towards his critics.
Next match Babar should hit a 6 and get run out with the SR of 600. Let’s see how much other Bradman score. Without Babar we would not even score 150.
I think some questions are designed to instigate the player into saying something rash and stupid. This is one of those questions. We have seen Kohli has been left fuming at times in his press conference
Like this question to Kohli after the Champions Trophy final
'Did you feel any pleasant moment in the match?')
He is a professional, this is how they are supposed to behave. Simply because certain players behave like angry children doesn't mean Babar has to follow them. Instead of making a big deal out of it he simply replied in a calm professional manner.
Considering the embarrassment that Pakistan cricket team has been for the past 2 years, and particularly Babar's relatively slow 100 against England in a very high scoring match, the question raised by the interviewer in frustration is not as ridiculous as people are making it out to be. However, Babar could have easily responded by giving him "a piece of his mind" but his response was very professional which adequately explained the pace of his batting.
This shows more character than players acting like spoiled, entitled brats. This is how professionals handle such questions. Good on Babar.
I'm sorry but nowhere in the world do professional athletes take this kind of crap from journalists. Not sure which professionals you follow, but they're definitely not "supposed" to behave like that.
Babar did not have to respond "childishly" but should have stood up for himself and shown some self respect. He did not remain calm but stuttered his way out of an insulting question by not showing any spine!
Ridiculous how you are equating standing up for yourself to acting like spoilt brat. This is how softies would fare in the face of insult, poor on Babar!
As i have explained earlier, the interviewer was not wrong. Babar played incredibly slow in a very high scoring match, which can be termed as selfish. Babar's intentions might not have been selfish, he was most likely following the incompetent team management's plans, however, it doesn't not change the fact that was an incredibly poor 100. I'm certain millions of people were asking the same question, why did Babar play so slow? So i'm not entirely sure how else Babar could have stepped up for himself knowing his team has been utter garbage and his innings have not been great. Instead of reacting in a poor manner, Babar handled it well.
Babar did stand up for himself, but in a professional manner without getting angry or misbehaving. He said "i followed the team management plan and if not for me the team would have been bowled out for much less". That's all that needed to be said. How else should he have stood up for himself? By telling the interviewer how great he is and how many records he has broken? How without him the team would be nothing? Yeah, i think Babar handled it well.
As far as Babar stuttering, this is how he is, even when he is with friends.
The validity of the question is a separate topic. Regardless of right or wrong, the question was asked in an insulting manner which no professional athlete with strong character would tolerate.
You again mentioned professionalism which I've already addressed in my previous post so I won't repeat it all over again.
As for how he should've responded, I'd suggest you watch how other top athletes respond to dumb questions like this. YouTube has loads of examples.
Except it was not a dumb question. The question was harsh, but a valid one. The team has lost 11 straight matches. It has lost to a minnow. In fact the team has done nothing but lose for the past 2 years, and nobody is held responsible. And on top of that, in a high scoring match, Babar plays one of the worst innings that can only be termed as selfish. These sort of innings have been an issue for us for awhile now. No matter how many 100s our players score we end up losing because of the SR of those 100s. I'm surprised the question was raised sooner. This question is harsh, but certainly not dumb. The fact that this question by asked only shows how pathetic our team and players have been, and how frustrated the fans are.
Good response to the question by Babar though.
Babar Azam: 112 off 108 balls, SR 103
10 other Pakistani batsmen: 147/9 off 179 balls, SR 82
Journalist: yOu MaDe ThE lAzIeSt CeNtUrY

Reporter : Phar juu
Lmao btw this was an Indian reporter from times of india
I was there in the presser. I nearly fell out of my seat when this was asked.
Afterwards the journalist asked me if his question was good, I said it was excellent![]()

You need to understand how lobby system works in Pakistan. Players who do not wish to serve interest of these lobbies will be on their hitlist. In some cases, these lobbies target players who are in way of their favourite players like Imam. They will never be happy with these player's performances even if they consistently do better than the rest.I don't understand why everyone targeting Babar, our best player. Blame Malik, Hafeez, fakhar, sarfraz,, imaad
If Babar’s role in this team is to play out the 50 overs, then I’m sorry to say he didn’t do a good job.
Poor journalist he was a bit on the older side I think I get what he was trying to say he actually meant to ask that you probably never felt in the whole match if there was anything pleasant for you but his English didn’t help him out really and saj bhai can you please confirm who this reporter was who asked babar this mediocre question and how dare he honestly

You need to realise how low is your understanding of cricket. Baber scoring 112 at 100+ strike rate coming at 3 is good enough. That is all he can do, anchor innings while scoring run a ball. Big hitting is job of batsmen coming down the order. 203 for 3 wickets with more than 10 overs to go is a very good position to be at considering Pak lost 3 quick wickets. It's not his fault rest of the batting is pathetic.Babar is a good batsman, not a match winner. When he scores a 100, it ensures we get to 250. This was good in 1990s but on these pitches, any score below 310 is easy.
Babar needs to realise he needs big hitting.

Pakistani people appreciate 0 over 100 with great hard work. Mind blowing.Next match Babar should hit a 6 and get run out with the SR of 600. Let’s see how much other Bradman score. Without Babar we would not even score 150.

If I was on Baber place, I would have politely asked him his name and organisation he works for and then ask for his credentials because he doesn't look like professional.
Used to be a time when before asking a question you had to say your name and organisation, but of late that's stopped.

A team that has lost its last 11 games on the trott and has now lost to Afghanistan should not expect love and support from the public.
So let me get this straight.
All the Babar critics on PP have been criticizing Babar's selfishness and slow SR when batting, and now a journalist asks a questions raising these points, the journalist is unprofessional? Right.
<iframe src="https://player.vimeo.com/video/338359947" width="640" height="480" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; fullscreen" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Surely Babar and other players have lot to improve.
But, how can a journalist be so unprofessional and with zero ethics?
You can't question that way.
You've have all rights to question, but that's not the way you question.
And, he's the only reliable batsman too.

Mind telling us if he has played a match winning innings so far in his first 3-4 years?
Yes he has. But as I said, if we feel he isn't winning enough matches, the simple answer is to replace him with a superior match winner.
Please spot a replacement for number #3 or #1 batsman or even an opener in WC PAkistan squad.

This is not new Inzamam has been not picking any replacement since Mani the ignorant became chairman in 2018. Babar Azam has been made sure to play all series across all formats for last 2 years. The guy who averaged 6.20 in NZ tour 2018 has been given a free pass.
Only 15 players are allowed in the squad.
Rizwan, Abid and Faheem are on standby so opener/wicket-keeper are covered.
Babar's cover for #3 is Haris.
Can Faheem or Rizwan bat on #3? Abid Ali is also opener/wicketkeeping option. There is no one down ooptin for last many years since Inzamam became cheif selector.
And he is still playing politics.
Faheem has returned to Pakistan and what I know is Abid is soon to follow. Only Rizwan will remain there with Inzamam already in UK.
Haris Sohail is the #3 backup.
There is no one-down option for the last few years because Babar Azam has been doing an excellent job.
I rest my case
What is your case? Who would you like to see instead of Babar at one down?
His case is Inzi not picking Pakistani AB de Villiers who is striking at 120 and averaging over 80 in domestic cricket. What is your case? Who would you like to see instead of Babar at one down?
Hardly matters there is no other option. They've made the team to ensure he plays all matches.
In a chasing scenario they'll put Babar as opener as he plays his shots when 6 players are in the circle.
Unfortunately now average of a selfish player matters more than the team wins.
Check the post how Azam is being called doing a good job while Pakistan team has lost almost all of its ODI matches this year. Pakistan has lost 12 straight matches where Azam's average is 52, shows how low we have gone now. This PCB needs an overhaul.

Forget DeVilliers Inzi has'nt picked a consistent batting position for last 3 years.
He has been playing musical chairs with Azam and Haris Sohail. REally insane to think someone picking player of DEvilliers calibre when he has'nt picked any solid bat during his tenure.

Theres bigger issues than babar strike rate which does need improving but isnt no 1 on the list of concern
The mid order of malik hafeez and sarfraz is poor The team doesnt have any finishers with the bat, the new ball ball bowlers dont take any wickets The death overs bowling cant close off innings, the fielding and catching is lowsy, theres no quality spinner in the team
Id say these deficiencies are contributing to the losses rather than babars hundreds at a run a balls Dont you?

You yourself say there is no other option, then you complain they've made the team to ensure he plays every match. If there is no other option, then what is it you expect?
For the record, I have said Babar is selfish and not a natural finisher. But he is a class batsman and no other Pakistan batsman is. Neither have I seen any other Pakistan batsman who is capable of finishing. But I am still waiting for you to advise if there is one you have in mind that I have missed.

What about taking stats from last 5 matches or more and compare the rest strike rate with Azams.
Or why not put the percentage of dot balls Azam played compared to the rest of the team.
Making selective stats to back this selfish player will not help Pakistan team. Only put pressure on the bowlers who already have to contend with underperformers in batting lineup.
I have shown you his dot ball stats in the past but you ignored them. He's a better strike rotator than almost all of our batsmen, barring Sarfaraz.
You're the one relying on selective stats.
Babar has some weaknesses but most want him to work on those and rectify them. Your method of replacing him with XYZ player and expecting that player to deliver at a similar level is not realistic.
You need to watchn Quaid e Azam trophy and can see Pakistani players ignored by this selection committee given even 50% of similar opportunities to this backed Akmal cousin Babar Azam they would've done much better and for the team.
Class is meaningless when you're contributing to team losses. I've already replied there is no #3 in this team or in the reserves.
Babar does'nt consider his selfish game his weakness, he is being picked and rewarded for slowing down run rate for last 2 years, why would he rectify this?
When inzamam has been replacing new players from the bench without getting chance, Azam is easily replaceable given a batting performer is given a full series. When was last time Azam was replaced by a youngster under chief selector Inzamam. It has'nt happened. Once Babar was injured with a bowl hitting his wrist he was replaced by Malik and Hafeez.
The selection committee has been playing with the Pakistani nation for far too long.
What r u on about?
Calling him sir wasn't coz he was scared it was coz he's in a professional environment. It's not that big of a player to show attitude. Also what do you mean by 'he sat there like a sissy'? Do you want him to stand up and start punching the journalist?
