Shoaib Malik at a presser after the first T20I against BD:
"Congratulations to Pakistan for winning the match, it's a great thing for us to be having these games at home.
"Experience is fine but performing is a responsibility. The main responsibility for experienced players is to groom youngsters and I think it went well today.
"When I played my first match in 99, I can understand what the feelings were. When Ahsan was playing, he showed so much confidence. In the middle, it wasn't easy specially on such a difficult pitch. Credit to him, he stuck with me and I think that was the turning point after early wickets. We had to conserve wickets and also score runs, it's a good sign that a youngster was also part of that.
"You don't find perfect people even in your family. Ups and downs are part of life, even the richest person can't have perfection, you have to go through the hard yards. We aimed to give our best shot, the pitch and weather aren't in our hands so we focus on what is in our hands.
"I didn't respond to anyone, I said that I try to satisfy myself with my performances. I don't want to make anyone else happy or angry, but it's my responsibility to respect everyone and people have different points of view. If someone says something negative about me, I shouldn't feel bad about it. I am happy with my performance and that it helped Pakistan to a win.
"If I say it's not difficult, that will be wrong. You need a lot of encouragement to make a comeback, specially when many things are against you. But this is part of life, until you don't go through the hard yards, you won't succeed. If your intentions are correct then no matter who is with you or against you, you can get success. It's difficult when someone says something about you but at the same time, you need to focus on your surroundings and being surrounded by positive people and that helps, I think that's an advantage I had. I played leagues everywhere and didn't just sit at home, I also played domestic cricket. You have to take your frustration out somewhere and for an athlete, that's the ground.
"If the story was one page long, it would have finished but a book consists of many pages, never one page. You get out, you also perform. You should remain strong and then you can succeed.
(You are even more senior than your coach so will you groom him also) "In the world, there is no person who can say I have learnt everything. If Sachin Tendulkar can't even say that or so many other people - the learning process never stops. We get after people very quickly, we want overnight results, that's not how it works but we have to show patience. If someone gets a chance, we should give them time. You want masala but you should also think about the country. If someone has been given a responsibility where they can take the team forward, I think you should wait a bit and support them.
"My work is to focus on the responsibility I have been given and to do that in the best way. It's not my responsibility to think about what someone else thinks or what someone said about me. A professional has to accept challenges and perform and there is no satisfaction besides in performing.
"I am not thinking about the World Cup, I am thinking about the World Cup tomorrow. I am not thinking that my innings today will help me get to the World Cup. I want to perform consistently for now, the World Cup is far away."
