No anime or Manga.Just proper cartoon shows.
Mine -
1. X Men the animated series (90s) - The opening theme song is still stuck in my head.
A fantastic series which did justice to the original comic books with the dark phoenix saga episodes being my favorite.
2. Batman the animated series - Need I say more? Arguably the greatest cartoon of all time.Perfect blend of dark tone of comic and dry humor characteristic of Batman. A Joker voiced by Mark Hamill who made the character immortal and the character of Harley Quinn first introduced in the series itself.A show for all times and ages.
3. Scooby doo - Loved their adventures :))
4. Swat Cats - Another quality show
5. Spider man - The one which aired on fox kids on star plus. Was my favorite super hero growing up thanks to this series.

1. Freakazoid

2. Animaniacs

3. Scooby-Doo

4. Batman

5. The Mask

6. X-Men

7. Dexter's Laboratory

8. Pinky and the Brain

9. The Addams Family

10. Captain Planet

Man I absolutely loved the SWAT Kats, anybody remember that episode where the thin one (pardon me I don't remember the names) gets kidnapped and then the fat one fights a whole army of enemies to save him and when he eventually reaches him, the thin guy refuses to go with him because he has been brainwashed by his captors. That was such a heartbreaking moment for me that I still remember it with clarity. There was another classy SWAT Kat episode in which the entire city is being flooded by some chemical and the liquid level was rising rapidly engulfing everything in its way.

Apart from SWAT Kats, I used to love Thundercats (there might be a theme here :srt), Teenage Mutant and X-Men.

The legends of Treasure Islands. I first watched it on PTV when I used to be a kid and I still like it.

Nice list will add Centurians, Silver surfer, fantastic 4, tom and Jerry in that list..

Also there was a cartoon about dinosaurs where a baby dinosaur herbivore used to get in trouble with his other herbivore friends in far away land against carnivores, used to live that as a kid you remember the name?

Tom and Jerry for sure esp the ones made by Fred Quimby.

I was in Maharashtra back then.:)

Asianet Cable for a short period (1 year or so ) around 2003-2004 showed 3 of the Disney Channels .

Absolutely high quality content that time -Classic Disney cartoons - Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, 3 - little pigs, Scrooge McDuck, Goof Troops, Aladdin, Timon and Pumba adventures, etc, lots of Disney movies and animated features, newer property like the fantastic "Kim Possible", Hannah Montana..

WHat a glorious year it was !.

But then suddenly the cable operators bowed under pressure of Turner and Co or (maybe some rate dispute with Disney), the channels were pulled, never to return . :sorry:sorry

Impossible to pic 5 favorites : I'll list 'em all !

Proper childhood years - VHS cartoon tapes my dad brought from the Middle east and Only Doordarshan as the govt run broadcaster : (1992-2001)

 • Tom and Jerry
 • Mickey mouse - classic cartoons
 • He-Man
 • Thunder cats
 • Old Superman animated series
 • Goof Troops
 • Sonic The hedgehog
 • Ducktales
 • Alladin

The Cable TV era : (cable arrived in 2001, classes 1 to 5)

Dominated by Cartoon Network originals
 • Courage the Cowardly Dog
 • Batman : The Animated series
 • Tom and Jerry (again)
 • Popeye
 • Scooby Doo (the original series) - (scooby dooby doo, where are you ... the catchy song ...)
 • Johnny Bravo
 • Dexter's laboratory
 • Powerpuff Girls
 • Toonami - Samurai Jack and the ilk - more mature cartoons.
 • Looney tunes show - Bugs, Daffy, Road runner Show, Sylvester & Tweety
 • There was a cartoon Olympics involving all the Hanna-barbara properties - forgot the shows name ...
 • Speed racer
 • Batman beyond
 • Superman (of the Bruce timm universe and JL)
 • Swat Kats
 • The Mask

Class 5-10 : The phase were cartoons competed with WWE for my attention span

 • Tiny TV emerged at that time : for children, didnt stop me from seeing them though : Thomas the tank Engine, Pingu, Oswald, Noddy
 • Pokemon : Went on forever till you finally got sick of the inconsistencies in the plot
 • Digimon
 • Justice league & Justice league Unlimited
 • Beyblade (Anyone remember this one ??)
 • Dragon Ball Z
 • X men - the newer series (with the dark costumes)
 • Sylvester and Tweety Mysteries
 • Codename Kids Next Door

Now I'm in a phase were you occassionally get nostalgic of the COuntless cartoons I never got to finish , and I go on downloading them on P2P.

Look at the state of cartoons in India now. Nothing but the filth called "Chotta Bheem" dominates the screen :69:

Very underrated show. Actually the Show is much darker and macabre than what we understood back then . Cartoon makers actually pushed a lot of serious deep content disguised as cartoons in those times . Everyone plays too safe now.

I think it was land of the lost was a pretty good show and on weekend used to get 2-3 hour long movie type cartoons like we did for scooby doo..

When you had recess in your list ,I knew I was older than u.

And yes Popeye and mask too, forgot about them.

Yeah land of the lost,so many movies they had, guess when I switched to anime didn't keep up with it anymore.

Scooby Doo still has movies which comes up ,unless u r talking about new Scooby Doo movies which was 1 he each and amazing show.

Anyone caught the new Looney toons show,it came around 2011 3seasons and it's pretty good, there is a live stream on YouTube, and it's story based.

Baby Looney toons was great as well on Pogo though

I meant the 3 hour movies on Sundays on Cartoon Network, i haven't watched cartoons for 10-15 years now so wouldn't know if they still show them or not.. But was good back in the day as a kid.. These days I see my nephew watch chhota Bheem, doremon and some others and I feel bad for them on missing out of good stuff we had in our time..

Yeah ,the zombie island kind, they still have all Scooby Doo movies with wrestlers, and special actors and what not releasing every year, available on torrents.

Everything associated with Hannah Barbera we're amazing I'm,even the small title bit cartoons.

There used be this cartoon Talespin based on jungle book characters. Was super fun.
And of course duck tales.

When you had recess in your list ,I knew I was older than u.

And yes Popeye and mask too, forgot about them.

To be fair, I wasn't really a young kid when I watched recess, was nearing the end of school I think, not exactly a cartoon watching age :yk

Both were available on DD.. Good times. But I loved only Duck Tales. Remember Uncle Scrooge swimming in a sea of money in his big vault ? :D

Well, our state's children were luckily unpolluted by the poorly dubbed trash, we saw all of these cartoons in the original English versions . :84:

I thought the dubbing was fantastic. You should watch them. Can be found on youtube.

I thought the dubbing was fantastic. You should watch them. Can be found on youtube.

They never dubbed cartoons in Kerala till the early 2000's when the Private channels started it, Doordarshan followed suit .

But come to think of it , it did help a lot with the english, and taught you the power of the medium, since you had to enjoy the cartoons without being spoonfed each and every line (like in dubbed cartoons), so you interpreted it more visually .. This was especially true for the Disney and Tom and Jerry cartoons.

I hate all kinds of dubbed toons, even if they are in Malayalam. Just doesn't fell as good as the originals.

If I had to choose one, it would be Batman Beyond. What a show. Fav episode was when Joker comes back and they fight in that weird warehouse.

Whole time I was like how is Joker getting younger and Bruce is a budha who needs a walking stick.

Apparently Joker is immortal.

Pokemon was the other one. Don't know if you kids call it anime or cartoon, don't care, am an ignorant so anything animated is a cartoon for me. Defined my childhood.

Others were Scooby Doo, Jackie Chan, Dexter's Lab.

Ed, Edd 'n Eddy as well, but that show was very trippy. Apparently the creator of the show was also arrested and thrown in jail for causing public disturbance.

I might be going way way back and showing my age but PTV used to air anime thunder sub and I believe ther was a thunder bird as well.

Others I kind of remember:
grendizer,
original voltron,
bionic six,
gi joe,
transformers,
silver hawks,
thunder cats.

Mainstream comic book ones:
Xmen
Justice league
Spider-Man and friends
Batman
The more contemporary avengers is pretty decent as well.

To be fair, I wasn't really a young kid when I watched recess, was nearing the end of school I think, not exactly a cartoon watching age :yk

Lol,then good chance we might end up being the same age :P,i think i gave up cartoons around 11th grade.

The Hindi dubbing was brilliant for Disney ones mate,it was so good that i couldn't watch the English ones.

1) Ed Edd n Eddy
2) Dexter's Lab
3) Captain Caveman
4) RoboCop

There is one coming up soon!

Apparently Joker is immortal.

That was a great episode. In India they showed it as a full length feature - Batman of the Future : Return of the joker .

Apparently Joker uploaded his consciousness via some electronic chip, implanted in Tim Drakes (Robin no.3) brain. It was the best of the Batman Beyond character. I wish they made a movie about him .. Would be massive !

Others were Scooby Doo, Jackie Chan, Dexter's Lab.

Amazing show. Great action too . Kung fu never looked so good in Cartoons since then. The real Jackie Chan was involved, so it was cool to begin with !
Ed, Edd 'n Eddy as well, but that show was very trippy. Apparently the creator of the show was also arrested and thrown in jail for causing public disturbance.

It wasn't to everyone's taste. Even I found it wacky .

I might be going way way back and showing my age but PTV used to air anime thunder sub and I believe ther was a thunder bird as well.

grendizer,
original voltron,
bionic six,

GI joe, was great. Another adult themed cartoon. They sold a lot of toys with it !

I am probably nitpicking but the Batman Beyond "episode" you are referring to was actually a spin-off movie called Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker.

From what I remember - the joker had captured and tortured Robin several years back and implanted a chip at the back of his head that could transform him into the joker - something like that!

All in all - Btaman Beyond was a great cartoon nonetheless!

I think you are right. Good episode.

That and death in the family episode from the original Batman or maybe it was also from BB are my favorite.

They're dark but still kid friendly, always loved those as a child.

Also how did I forget, TEEN TITANS. Also an epic show. Slade is still one of my fav villains.

They rebooted it but it sucked.

Also am I the only guy who watched powerpuff girls as guilty pleasure as a kid. Didn't want anyone to find out as I thought it was a girls show, but it seems meaningless to fret over now.

Me too , huge fan .

Actually there was a study that said that almost a majority of PP Girls fans were actually young boys . It was considered as a great example of gender neutral success in cartoons back then !

Well that is reassuring for 8 year old me.

I remember back in school there were these powerpuff girl jelly bean packs, I took one to school but had to to gobble them up fast before anyone saw the packet because I thought it was too girly lol :))

:))) Mojo jojo

that red shaitan character, Him, is still the creepiest cartoon villain I've ever seen.

I tried to deduce as a kid if the dude was gay or not, I still don't know.

Suleiman did you watch the Urdu dubbed version because Mojo jojo speaking in Hindi still cracks me up :))

Damn the creepiest cartoon character has to be Fred the Barber from Courage the Cowardly Dog - he only came in one episode but man that was soo weird and creepy!!!!

Still freaks me out lol

I don't know if you guys have seen the direct to DVD animated film batman beyond: return of the joker.

It was released I think towards the end of the show's run. I think it was really well made. PG-13 though
