I dislike hacks and nudgers so no Sehwag or Cook for me. I prefer batsmen who are class in all sorts of conditions, have their own signature flair when batting and have the ability to take charge of the game. Sachin would have been a favorite if things were different.
 
It would probably have to be Viv, Lara and Jayasuriya. Can't decide between them three. Haven't seen Viv live but have seen plenty of him to know that the swag level was just to dang high :shezzy

Same was said about Sharjeel. Hack, this, that, blah, blah. Had he not found Deano and Mickey at the right time, he would've gone down the same route.

That huge backlift coming down hard on the ball meeting it smack in the middle and making a crisp sound off the bat as the ball whistles past the cover fielders to race away to the boundary.

Even though I was right-handed I grew up copying Anwar's style and trying to emulate his way of batting.

Lol you lot are acting as if Sharjeel had already conquered the entire world and was hailed as one of our best ever.


Let me remind you that Sharjeel averages in the early 30s and just had one good series in Australia. Before that he wasn't really setting the stage on fire (apart from that 150 odd against IRELAND lmao). Sharjeel was hyped up since he was a breath of fresh air in our line-up of tuk tuks. Any other nation wouldn't have hyped Sharjeel to such an extent.

nah. Sharjeel is still a work in progress btw. He had promise and for a 21st century batsmen starved nation like us he was a source of excitement but in actuality he was nothing out of this world

In any case Nazir's SR was 80.

Nah, what? Lol. Sharjeel just took on the best pacers in the world and made it look easy.

Nazir played in a different era. He wasn't coached like Sharjeel thus never fully developed. Silly to question his SR when everyone knows what a powerful timer of the ball he was.
 
From Pakistan, always liked the big three middle order of Inzy, Yousuf and Younis.

Outside Pakistan - Brian Lara and Marcus Trescothick.

I find left handers generally more aesthetically pleasing than right handers. Lara was fantastic against spin and was an entertainer. I had my criticisms of him when he was WI captain, he could be selfish and unprofessional, but there's no denying he was box office.

I've always had a soft spot for Trescothick who could be destructive on his day, but could be prone to poor patches of form. England have never had a Test opener of the same calibre since, so sad to see such talent wasted.

Aus series was good

He was building up nicely but it's laughable to say he was finished article

Lol at Nazir played in a different era. He he Afridis average but in same era has 25+ points of SR less. And didn't bowl. Most overrated player ever
 
The man with the best character and courage: Mohinder Amarnath

Recently heard from a friend that he along with some ladies met Mohinder in the lift of a hotel. Mohinder stepped out of the lift to offer his place to the ladies and said he would take the stairs.

Viv Richards, easily. Man was a beast against what was then world class attacks all around him.
 
For all round quality and the sheer stack of runs he scored in the first decade of the 21st century, it's none other than the great Ricky Ponting. The guy was an all format monster at his best.

In terms of pure aesthetic beauty, it has to be Mohammad Yousuf.

For the pure thrill of watching a batsman, a certain KP.
