Your starting XI and squad for the 1st Test versus South Africa

Abid Ali? Why?
Why would you pick Kamran Ghulam ahead of Saud Shakeel and Usman Salahuddin?
Why Sohail Khan? why not younger pacer?

Kamran ghullam had the best tournament in qaid e azam so he should be in the mix with usman and saud

Starting XI for karachi & thoughts on squad make up!

My XI for first test vs Safrica @ karachi including justification for selections:

Abid ali
Azhar ali
Babar azam
Rizwan (WK)
Fawad Alam
Saud Shakeel
Faheem Ashraf/Shadab
Zafar gohar
Yasir shah
Hassan Ali
Shaheen Shah
12th man - kamran ghulam

This would be my XI for the karachi test. Realistically however I expect garbage like shan, haris & abbas all to keep their places. This should be yasirs last chance too imo. He is absolutely trash outside the sub continent and in the past year has looked a shadow of himself. As much as I have loved his service to the country he is on the decline and other options should be explored. He deserves one last chance to shine though on tracks that are conducive to spin.

Kamran unlucky not to debut in my XI after his stellar season but Saud is super talented with a ridiculously high ceiling imo so gets the nod. Should he apply himself, get fitter and work hard he can easily become the 3rd best new breed of batsmen in pakistan after babar and rizwan. It will be a spinners haven so would opt for 2 specialist spinners and a bowling AR like faheem or preferably shadab at 7 if he can prove his fitness.

Rubbish like shan (THE most coached and artificially manufactured player with minimal natural flair or ability I've ever seen) and haris(embarrassingly unfit and fails most of the time. Other batsmen can only dream of the chances hes been given. I've had enough with him) can go, replaced with the future in saud and kamran, maybe even salman ali agha. All 3 coming off the back of excellent QEA performances. Huge fan of zafar gohar who needs to persisted with. Especially with yasirs awful numbers outside of the sub continent we really need to start grooming another frontline spinner (and no im not a fan of sajid khan or nauman ali). I hope zafar isn't discarded after his debut where he really shouldn't have played. Sadly, nothing would surprise me more in pak cricket then not seeing zafar ever play again for us.

Moving onto the enigma that is Nasim shah. I like him as a long term prospect but hes far too raw for test cricket and I fear another serious injury on the horizon for him. He needs to go back to the domestic circuit with his work load carefully managed. He was meant to be this 145-150kph speedster but he genuinely averaged around the 135 mark in new Zealand. That coupled with his lack of lateral movement meant he was nothing more then a net bowler for the new Zealanders. Extremely underwhelming and it felt like we were a man down In our attack before he even bowled a ball. If he can't hit the high 140s then sadly as of now he has no place in our test line up as he is bread and butter for the top sides.

Hassan Ali has been resurgent in this QEA winning player of the tournament. Hes deserving of a recall and a chance once again to stake a claim. Our pace bowling stocks are of an embarrassingly low standard. Abbas has been found out at this level and with his gentle pace, he is troubling no one. Great to tie up an end, concede minimal runs and apply constant pressure but unless rizzy comes upto the stumps to him to negate batsmen completely nullifying him by batting out the crease I don't see him picking up many wickets. Keep him in the squad but hassan deserves a go.

No wholesale changes, just subtle additions of deserving players who have proven themselves in our Premier domestic competition. Really like the look of this team and the balance it brings. I sincerely hope mo wasim is bold enough to select them. In his stint as coach of northern he has shown he backs young players and esp. speaks highly of saud so its about time we gave him a long overdue chance to shine. I am extremely excited about the appointment of wasim as chief selector. Just need the poison that Is misbah to go and take his useless croney waqar with him. Bring in a strict foreign coach who has a zero tolerance policy for poor fitness snd fielding standards like arthur and we will be set. In Sha Allah.

Babar averages 26 at 3 and 73 at 4. Don’t think it’s a good idea to move him back especially when we have a capable number 3 in Azhar.

Babar’s also never played at 3 in Pakistan. So you can’t judge everything like this. Otherwise if you are insistent then Saud or Kamran can easily be shifted up to 3.

I like your squad. I think it has ticked all the right boxes. The only criticism -- if I really have to make one -- is the absence of an offie. You have 2 guys (3 if you have shadab) who are taking the ball away from the right handers, you need some one to bring the ball back in. It can be a toss up between Zafar and Yasir or Yasir and Sajid khan.

The openers are fine but Babar should be at number 4. He is going to be our best bet so we need to give him the best chance of succeeding otherwise he would be at the crease in the very first hour in each innings.

If thats the line up id play kamran at 3 and babaar at 4

Rumours floating that Shan and Naseem are getting dropped with Saud and Hassan Ali being potential selections.

Haris Sohail is expected to retain which is a big surprise for me.

Very big suprise not sure on what basis hes being retained

If Haris Sohail gets picked we are doomed.

I dont want to see him succeed because he doesnt deserve. How many domestics has Mr Lazy played in the last year?

Rumours are floating he might be retained. He's a good limited overs player but don't think he's built for the long format. Perhaps you could argue he deserves another game/series however his dismissals were so bad in the NZ tests.

I think hassan 100 percent confirmed id be shocked if he doesnt

Nah he'll get chosen but hope Shan gets the boot/rest as well as Haris. Usually i would say it's only one series for a player or in this case 2 test matches since comeback but Haris hasn't proved his fitness, doesn't attempt to participate in QeA and the practise match exclusion was a big question mark.

Will be big injustice to all the batsmen who are sweating in domestic cricket.

Well Haris has gotten a free ride for a long time. He played very well against SL in a comeback test in UAE, however his selection was questionable and one of privilege i thought. You should never be able to skip a queue for guys that work their buns off at domestic.

Pakistan should be able to beat this Saffer side quite easily. SA's selection policies in recent times should make this straightforward. They could not capitalise on Zubayr's and Janneman Malan's rich vein of form two years ago and, now, have basically ignored Raynard Van Tonder who is tearing it in their domestic. They are playing very average batsmen like Temba and Keegan petersen. Ideally, all 3 of Malan,Zubayr and Raynard should have been there making it a formidable SA side. But SA's trash selection policy is not Pakistan's problem.

Pakistan should play

Azhar(as opener)
Shan(not sure there any better in Pakistan domestic)
Saud Shakeel
Kamran Ghulam
Agha Salman
Rizwan
Faheem/Nawaz
Shaheen
Hasan
Irfanullah Shah/Yasir
Sajid Khan

If PAK prefers to play 3 seamers, Nawaz should be all-rounder. If, on the other hand, you want to play both Yasir and Sajid, Faheem stays as all-rounder.

This team will wipe the floor with whatever XI SA selects from their squad.

Should organize a 4 day game between PAK green and Pak white then pick best XI

PAK green

Azhar Ali
Imran Butt
Saud Shakeel
Babar Azam
Fawad Alam
Shadab
Rohail Nazir
Sajid Khan
Zahid Mehmood
Waqas Maqsood
M.Abbas

PAK white

Abid Ali
Sharjeel
Usman Salahuddin
Kamran Ghulam
Rizwan
Salman Agha
Faheem
Hasan
Shaheen
Yasir
Nauman Ali

Far too many changes in that squad. I would look to change the whole bowling attack and rest Shaheen. One of the openers in Shan or Abid needs to go, Haris Sohail a drop for sure and bowling attack like i said.

I think some players need to be given a chance in this series.

Don't know if they will. Pakistan should know this ground well and know what to do when the toss arises i.e. bat first/bowl first.

Hopefully we prepare a spin track and go with 2 spinners.

1. Abid Ali
2. Umar Siddiq
3. Azhar Ali
4. Babar Azam (c)
5. Fawad Alam
6. Mohammed Rizwan (wk)
7. Faheem Ashraf
8. Zafar Gohar
9. Yasir Shah
10. Shaheen Afridi
11. Mohammed Abbas

I know the final 16 haven't been finalised but from the 20 names selected the playing xi I would go for.

Azhar
Abid
Babar
Fawad
Agha
Rizwan
Nawaz
Faheem
Hasan
Yasir
Shaheen

You have a team that can bat down to hasan
And yasir can also hold a bat .

3 pacers in faheem , hasan , shaheen

1 experienced legspinner in yasir

2 offspinners different options left arm nawaz and right arm agha both have performed in domestic cricket.

Apart from agha all the rest have test caps and experience playing for Pakistan nawaz has 33 caps in all formats for Pakistan which includes 3 test caps and 5 test wickets, so there's no risk of pushing too many debutants into the team.

I'm so glad this came to fruition. Muhammad waseem is a breath of fresh air. Although I am gutted zafar has been dropped as I predicted. Most importantly trash like shan and haris are gone and hopefully mever seen again. Abbas and nasim are also extremely overrated and im glad both have been dropped. Ali agha a nice inclusion.
