I am sure opinion is divided on his recall to the ODI squad but is that deserved or been done to please public opinion?

It is definately the right decision but looking at the Strong Squad aussies have just named i believe he will struggle and a 5 0 whitewash might be on the card..Saying that he has a chance so its up to him to take it

was he selected in ODI squad because of his good performance in PSL which is a T20 tournament?

In the present bunch of accumulators there is a strong need of a player who can change gears and for that purpose we tried Asif but his performance wasn't up to the mark, so Umar Akmal is the last hope. I am not his fan (mainly due to his off field issues) but I wish him best of luck and hope that he will make most of this opportunity.

He's earned it for this series with Australia, but there will be a lot of pressure on him to perform because if he doesn't, I doubt he'll be going to the World cup.

And even if he does perform, his spot is going to be taken by both Malik and Hafeez so he'll be warming that bench for the majority of the time.

Definitely earned...but then so is someone like Haris Rauf, who has been ignored. Weird selection policies being employed.

Not really, bro. Haris Rauf hasn't played ANY domestic cricket other than PSL and that means he just can't be brought into the national set up at this moment. His fitness has not been tested at all and he needs longer games under his belt to make a strong claim.

4 overs in a T20 game are not enough.

Not a big deal. That is how Hassan, Shadab, Faheem and Fakhar were brought in as well. Problem arises when he do the same for Tests.

It would be interesting to see his FC, List A and PSL stats from the last season if any one can pull those up.

He deserves it with the way he has played in the last couple of domestic games and PSL. I personally didn't want to see him back but he deserves another chance.

Super happy to see him back ! I still think he can improve on the way he constructs his innings and fitness. But he is the X factor we lack in the team.

He's better than Asif Ali if we want a slogger. But this is also his last chance before the world cup.

Ironically if he does well, it'll most likely be Malik that will make way in a full strength team.

Imam
Fakhar
Babar
Akmal
Sarfraz
Hafeez
Imad
Shadab/Faheem
Hasan
Shaheen
Junaid/Amir/Hasnain

That's a solid team all things considered. No real world beaters in it but if they bowl well they can win some games.

Should only play as an opener. If he bats in middle order he will cost us games because he is still brainless as ever.

Deserves a chance.

This is a massive opportunity for Umar! If he can score runs leading up to the world cup, he could see himself in the playing XI.

Just needs to keep his head grounded and work hard, very hard.

He did well in the PSl so i guess deserves another shot. Needs to bat at 4 though to get the most out of him.

He is fun to watch once he gets going and can play pace well hopefully he can have some good games this series will hope the best for him will be interesting to see how he performs

He just showed in PSL that he is still one of the best talents we have and there arent many upcoming players also so he deserved it on merit.

One of the few bastmen we have who have all the gears in batting.

I'm not convinced (how many times have we been here before?) but for the betterment of Pak cricket especially the meek batting, let's see.

he earned it, and Pak needs him - badly

hopefully he doesn't throw this away like he has done so many times before

Needs to realize that he wont get many oppurtunties like this often, needs to make the most of this, unlike his brother Kami did a few years ago.

He should consider himself lucky to be in the mix.

Perform well in the ODI series and earn a ticket to the World Cup.

I'm not entirely sure but i think he deserves a chance plus we don't have any promising hitter in domestic. So probably he deserves a last chance

Didn’t he perform well last time and taken to champions trophy where he was dropped on fitness reasons. Is that being addressed.

Has he improved his fitness can he pass the yo-yo test.

Also these Akmal brothers shine in PSL feasting on newsbies and local bowlers, when thrown against international bowlers they were the same old Akmals that we saw y they were dropped.

In all his innings in this PSL has he shown any signs of playing ground shots improvement in strike rotation. All his hoists will not cross the rope, many will drop down inside the 30 yard circle which it did in this PSL and he was lucky enough on many occasions to be not out.

I think he's better than Asif Ali for our ODI squad and he deserves the call up with his recent form albeit a T20 tournament. If he plays well in the series vs. AUS then he can definitely get a World Cup spot which I want to see for the betterment of the team. He has talent but he seemed to have wasted it with his fitness and attitude issues. Hopefully we can put this behind.

I think it is worth a shot. If Akmal can become the 40 averaging batsman with a SR of 95 that we all know he is capable of, the Pakistan batting will improve exponentially.

Currently, he's the only real candidate for the #6 spot.

There was no justification for sidelining him for someone like Asif Ali. He was, is and always will be 20 times better.

Sad thing is, he was more than capable of making a spot in the top order his own if it wasn't for the brain fades. The danger of him coming in at #6 is that he may revert back to the brainless slogging.

Welcome step, hope he maintains his fitness and consistently performs to get his confidence back.

I think he deserves this chance but am not sure if he will deliver under pressure in a World Cup environment ; but someone who should still be kept in the squad I guess given how long and gruelling the tournament can be plus he has some decent memories in England and enjoys the support.

That is irrelevant when his attitude has been a big issue to beyond the lack of consistency, if he scores some runs and behaves himself he will always find himself around the team. You can't make silly comments all the time and attack everyone but yourself yet still expect to be picked.

Yes. Let's see where Mickey will play him.

Not really bro. He is way more talented than asif ali. But his attitude and fitness has been shocking in recent times, the selectors had no choice to look past him.
