For fans of 'The Wire', I found a lot of similarities when I started watching HBO's 'We own this city' lately. It's almost nostalgic.

While I'm not here to say it's as good as Wire, that's for each watcher to judge. But soo many eerie similarities. Again this is set in Baltimore, dare I say this I missed Baltimore (as a TV viewer atleast).

This time the tables have turned, they're chasing the corrupt and brutal inside the Baltimore police department. Wire taps, money, courtrooms etc..etc..

To top it all 'We own this city' is based on a true story. Created by The Wire's team David Simon and George Pelecanos, along with former writers and cast members of legendary show.

Bad news, it's only 6 episodes.

Respectfully not including Breaking Bad, The Wire, Fargo, Oz and a lot more cause they are just too much anxiety provoking and I watch shows to escape it.

True Detective
didn't provoke anxiety but those others did? I found it extremely alarming in places, the child molestation themes particularly.

It did especially with McConaghey's character . But Matt gave a Daniel Day Lewis-esque performance that made me engulf in it. It was only 8 episodes long. So that's why it makes my list. Others are lengthy series with a lot of seasons.

Breaking Bad and The Wire were seasons of tense atmosphere.

Fawlty Towers: John Cleese to revive series with daughter

Comedy series Fawlty Towers is set to be revived after more than 40 years.

John Cleese, who played Basil Fawlty, will be returning to write and star alongside his daughter Camilla Cleese.

The two-series show, which featured on BBC2 in 1975 and 1979, followed the lives of Torquay hotelier Basil and his wife Sybil as they tried to keep their business and marriage afloat.

The new series will explore how the dramatic and cynical Basil navigates the modern world.

Castle Rock Entertainment announced on Tuesday it had closed a deal with Cleese to bring back the television series.

The revival will also see Basil and a daughter he has just discovered is his, team up to run a boutique hotel.

Cleese is also well known as one of the original members of the Monty Python comedy group.

Bojack. Genius

Bojack. Genius

Glad you like it. An animated show about funny animal people, that is as good drama as most of the rest of my list.

Interesting take on generational trauma leading to Bojack’s addictions and irresponsible behaviour.

I wonder if they had the series mapped from the beginning, as events in seasons 2 and 3 became critical in season 6.

With regards the plotline it becomes seriously serious.

Isn't Bojack a predator?

My top 10.

1. The Wire
2. The Sopranos
3. Ertugrul
4. Better Call Saul.
5. Breaking Bad.
6. Line of Duty
7. Community
8. Prison Break ( jumped the shark midway through season 2 but still loved it).
9. Narcos ( combined mexico and columbia).
10. House of Cards

Isn't Bojack a predator?

In my opinion, no. He was desperate for love and attention due to his awful parents. His depression and his pills and booze problem made that far worse. He made a lot of irresponsible and cowardly decisions because of this tearing need.

The long argument between Bojack and Diane at the “Philbert” launch is superlative drama.

A very ambiguous situation but that heavily leans on Hollywood culture.

Arnott is superb. Flaked is worth a watch.

Fawlty Towers is a British icon bit the reboot won't work, surely.

Frasier coming back too

Any Fawlty towers fans?

Not particularly - while the stories were superbly written I was always uncomfortable with the extreme incompetence, creeping to the upper classes, and self-hate of the protagonist.

The Wire as many have mentioned already was amazing. I marvel at the scale of the ambition, at way it says something so profound on the human condition.

I also thought Mad Men was brilliant. A fine cultural history of the 1960s in the US. Also brings out the ambivalence we feel about advertising - on one side we associate advertising with cynicism, fabrication, hucksterism, creating a secular religion of mass consumption, of inventing want, of leaving us never satisfied. On the other we can see it as a creative process that taps into what we would like and may lack and at its best is rooted in real emotions.

Something a bit different - I really liked the British sitcom, Yes Minister. So many brilliant lines in it. We also get to observe the British art of never quite saying what is meant.

“Minister, if I am pressed for a straight answer I shall say that, as far as we can see, looking at it by and large, taking one thing with another, in terms of the average of departments, then in the last analysis it is probably true to say that, at the end of the day, you would find, in general terms that, not to put too fine a point on it, there really was not very much in it one way or the other."
