So some controversy with this team as it was chosen by Cricket Australia.

Guess the one cricketer missing from it and one that is causing a lot of grief in India :D

Perfect team.. No controversy. Let Rohit Sharma fans cry as much as they want.

Cricket Australia revealed their World Test Championship (WTC) Team of the Tournament and it included just three Indians. The list had Babar Azam over India star Virat Kohli while the upcoming superstar Shubman Gill failed to secure a spot. The spin duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja were the preferred slow-bowling options in the side while Rishabh Pant was selected as the wicket-keeper considering his heroics against Australia. While Pant has been ruled out of his injuries, Jadeja and Ashwin are in the running to play for India in the WTC Final against Australia at the Oval.

The team had Usman Khawaja and Sri Lanka batter Dimuth Karunaratne as the opening partnership with Babar Azam coming in at No 3. Babar had stellar numbers between 2021 and 2023 with more than 1500 runs in 14 matches. While Joe Root was the top-scorer with 1915 runs in 22 matches and even Pujara had good knocks, the Pakistan cricket team skipper was preferred in that position.

However, Root did find a place in the team at the No 4 batter and he was followed by the explosive Travis Head from Australia. Head was instrumental in Australia's success and his brand of aggressive batting provided a much-needed variety to their attack.

Pant, Jadeja and Ashwin complete the wicket-keeping and spin-bowlers quota in the side.

When it comes to the fast bowlers, Pat Cummins was picked as the skipper while England veteran James Anderson and South Africa star Kagiso Rabada joined him the star-studded line-up.

Cricket Australia's WTC Team of the Tournament:Usman Khawaja, Dimuth Karunaratne, Babar Azam, Joe Root, Travis Head, Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant, Ravichandran Ashwin, Pat Cummins (C), Jimmy Anderson, Kagiso Rabada.

WTC Team of the Tournament 2021-2023

(Apologies in advance if someone has already made such a thread! Happy to be merged)

1. Usman Khawaja - this is quite straightforward, averaging 65 with centuries at home and away, Khawaja has been the absolute best opener in this cycle of text cricket.

2. Abdullah Shafique - a real surprise package for me in this WTC cycle. Useful innings throughout his young career and 3 centuries to boot. Nowhere near the finished article but a solid start for the young man.

3. Marnus Labuschagne - the only question is, if not Marnus than who?

4. Babar Azam - the greatest of batsman outside of the fab four, Azam keeps on improving and his near double was a true test innings of grit, determination and skill.

5. Joe Root - a tad our of position but both Azam and Root deserve their place here. Root has been the most underrated part of England's Bazball rebirth...and maybe its most important!

6. Ben Stokes c - when it's all said and done, how will we the fans view Bazball? Who knows...but what I do know is Ben has been the most important all rounder for a fair few years and now has become one of the more imaginative and winning captains of recent times.

7. Travis Head - Australia's very own Bazball expert whose 163 against India in the final was the innings of the WTC.

8. Alex Carey wk - the best keeper by quite some distance in WTC 21-23 who has also played crucial innings when Australia have needed him the most.

9. Shaheen Afridi - with 18 wickets in just 2 tests in the Caribbean and an all time great five-for in Bangladesh, Afridi have been Pakistan bowling's lynch pin. Injury unfortunately kept him away from a chunk of the tournament and as a fan I hope it does not happen again.

10. Nathan Lyon - nearing 500 test wickets...indispensable even early in an Australian bowling innings, Lyon has become the premier spinner in the format and is still going strong!

11. Kagiso Rabada - one of the few bright lights in a beleaguered South Africa set up. His performances have elevated him yet again and possibly led him to being the best fast bowler on the planet.

What would your XIs look like?

No one from finalist Indian cricket and 3 players from team which got whitewashed at home!

Going off stats (runs, wickets, averages) mainly as I didnt watch that much cricket:

1. Dimuth Karunaratne (Sri Lanka)
2. Usman Khawaja (Australia)
3. Joe Root (England)
4. Babar Azam (Pakistan)
5. Travis Head (Australia)
6. Rishabh Pant (wk) (India)
7. Ravindra Jadeja (India)
8. Pat Cummins (c) (Australia)
9. Nathan Lyon (Australia)
10. James Anderson (England)
11. Jasprit Bumrah (India)

Player of the Season - Usman Khawaja (Australia)

In which positions would you bring in the Indians? Provide names and reasoning.

There is no Indian opener better than the two I put forward, or the other option which I missed out and that was a Sri Lankan. No disputing the no. 3 I hope?

As for the middle order of 4,5 and 6, which Indian batter did better than Azam or Root? And who does India have as a better all rounder and captain than Stokes?

Let us move onto the lower order: Travis Head has played one of the best and most crucial innings of the tournament and was an important hitter for Australia for most of the cycle. Carey, simply put, is the best keeper bat going at the moment. Which Indian players would you replace them with and why?

Finally the bowlers: the bets shot an Indian has in this side is either Jadeja or Ashwin but I can't pick them over Lyon personally.

The pace duo pick themselves basically: Rabada is the best all format bowler on the planet and Shaheen Shah may arguably be his closest competition but was hampered by injury. The only big name which I left out for bowlers was Cummins but I just had to for balance of the side but he could easily walk in. Which Indian pace bowlers would you have? Who should they replace? And why?
