Zimbabwe's tour of Afghanistan (UAE) 2021

9 wickets down. Zimbabwe lead by 104 runs. Let's see how many runs can the last pair accumulate and how Afghanistan will approach the innings.

Okay so Rashid cleans up the final Wicket.

Afghanistan need 108 runs to Win.

Muzarabani was not out. There have been some pretty poor decisions by umpire Pakhteen in this series. It is high time ICC gets neutral umpires in there, enough of these Covid excuses, if all players can be there, why not umpires? and there must be DRS for every series.

Aleem Dar on the otherhand was absolutely brilliant. Hardly got anything wrong.

Afghanistan 8/1. They need to take it easy. Still lot of overs left for them to get the target.

Pakteen did not give Williams on 50 when he was plumb. What about than? That affected the game more than the last decision.

Dar did not give Muzarabani when he was pretty plumb in the inning earlier of rashid bowling.

ZIM 287 & 365 (f/o)
AFG 545/4 d & 25/1 (7.1) CRR: 3.49
Day 5: 2nd Session - Afghanistan need 83 runs

It's Tea on day 5. Afghanistan need 54 more runs to win with 9 wickets in hand.

They are doing it easily without breaking any sweat. Half the target has been reached with the loss of just one wicket.

Given their less experience in Test cricket i thought it would be a bit nervy and they lost a wicket as well. But no they are almost close. Kudos to them. They are quick learners.

Afghanistan have won by 6 Wickets and have levelled the series. Good comeback after drubbing in the first test.

Afghanistan win by 6 wickets

Afghanistan - 545/4 & 108/4
Zimbabwe - 287 & 365

Nice to see Afghanistan winning!

They are gonna break Rashid by bowling him so much tho

This team has potential. They need more wins to gain some confidence and challenge big boys of cricket!

I didn't see Muzarabani one but Williams was not Plumb, it was probably Umpire's call. I agree it was close and if given it wouldn't have come to this.

Nonetheless, a very hard fought series this, probably 1-1 is a fair result in the end, considering both teams gave it their all.

Afghanistan bounce back with series-levelling win against Zimbabwe
Afg v Zim, 2nd Test, day five, report

Despite a stiff resistance from Sean Williams and Donald Tiripano, Afghanistan put up an impressive performance to win the second Test by six wickets and level the two-match series 1-1.

Scorecard

Asghar Afghan and Hashmatullah Shahidi put Afghanistan in a strong position with their magnificent batting performances, while Rashid Khan added to Zimbabwe’s misery with 11 wickets in the match.

Although Afghanistan expected to wrap up the match on day four, a fighting partnership between Williams and Tiripano delayed their victory by a day.

Zimbabwe resumed play with Williams on 106 not out and Tiripano unbeaten on 63 with a lead of eight runs and three wickets in hand.

Williams and Tiripano continued from where they had left off yesterday and added another 63 runs to push Zimbabwe’s total past 329.

However, Rashid Khan finally managed to get a much-needed breakthrough for Afghanistan when he sent Tiripano packing just five short of what would have been his maiden Test century.

Captain Williams continued his efforts to increase Zimbabwe’s lead with Blessing Muzarabani and the pair stitched a 33-run partnership until latter fell victim to Amir Hamza.

Rashid then bagged his 11th wicket of the match and seventh of the innings by dismissing Victor Nyauchi, thus restricting Zimbabwe’s lead to 107 runs.

Afghanistan started their innings on the back-foot as Muzarabani drew first blood with a wicket in the first over of the innings. But, Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmat Shah quickly brought Afghanistan back on track with a well-worked partnership of 88 runs.

Zimbabwe picked up two wickets in quick succession but Afghanistan soon eased to comfortable victory with Rahmat Shah bringing up his half-century.

Hashmatullah Shahidi was adjudged as the Player of the Match for his double ton.

Great win for Afghanistan but they need to rethink their bowling strategy.

Going in with just 3 frontline bowlers will not work and was a factor in Zimbabwe’s fight back. Both seamers that played in this series showed good potential, they have the tools and the think tank need to use them.

If Zimbabwe can get Kyle Jarvis back fit to play by next month (I think he’s been seriously ill?) then our batsmen will be asked questions, as Muzarabani could prove to be a handful too.

Yes. Kyle Jarvis is ruled out for 6 months. AFG should have wrapped this on day 4 really.

Good competitive series. Zimbabwe's fightback was ultimately not enough to make up for a poor 1st innings effort, another 100 runs and it could've been an interesting chase.

Afghanistan showed much more grit with the bat. In Ibrahim Zadran, Rahmat Shah, Hashmatullah Shahidi and Asghar Afghan they've some capable and gritty batsmen.

Zimbabwe lack a quality spinner to consistently challenge in these conditions. Absence of Taylor and Ervine also weakened their middle order. However Blessing looks a very good bowler and ZCB should prepare bouncy pitches for the Pakistan series given our weakness against the short ball.

They had two front spinners in the squad but surprisingly chose not to play them. Perhaps it was understandable on the green track of the first test, but surely they should have played Wellington Mazakadza or Brandon Mavuta in the 2nd game.

Rightly said, they've missed Taylor, Ervine and Jarvis in this game. Taylor and Ervine are expected to be back for PAK series, but it may take more time for Jarvis to recover.

Asghar needs to up the tempo from the other end . Useless tuk tuking.

Gurbaz couldn't get his ton. Good knock though. Time for Gulbadin and Nabi to go bonkers.

Afghanistan struggling to get past 200 now..one time looked like they will reach 230+

This is always the problem with teams when they are scoring at a such a good pace and then decide to slow down, thinking they can go all out in the last few overs....
This tends to back fire quiet alot

AFG 198/5 (20 ov)

Its going to be difficult for ZIM, Rashid or no Rashid.

Now they need a miracle. Its going AFG way

AFG 198/5 (20)

Afghanistan won by 48 runs

Tests were a different thing, in white ball format Afghans are a much better team than Zimbabwe and Ireland, esp in T20.

Instead of Zim, PCB should just invite Afg- way more interesting as a team.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz's stunning 87 followed by a three-wicket haul from Rashid Khan helped Afghanistan to register a 48-run win in the opening T20I against Zimbabwe in Abu Dhabi.

After being asked in to bat by Zimbabwe, Afghanistan made the most of the opportunity by putting up a brilliant batting performance. Credit to the opening pair of Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Karim Janat, who started belting from the first over and did not let the momentum slip even for a moment.

They were 66/0 at the end of the Powerplay and looked well on course for a massive total. Gurbaz, especially, was in explosive form and soon got to his third half-century in the format in just 26 balls.

Zimbabwe finally broke the 80-run opening stand soon after Gurbaz's fifty when Richard Ngarava dismissed Janat for 26. The next batsman in, Asghar Afgan, did not take a lot of time to settle and along with Gurbaz went after the Zimbabwe bowlers with intent.

The pair slapped Donald Tiripano for two sixes and four in his third over as the bowler leaked 19 runs off it. The duo shared a 74-run second-wicket stand before Gurbaz fell victim to Ryan Burl. The young Afghanistan batsman departed on a well-made 45-ball 87.

Afghan then continued in the same vein and got his half-century in the final over. Despite Zimbabwe pulling things back in the latter overs, Afghanistan managed to post a formidable 198/5.

In reply, Zimbabwe got off to a steady start, slowly picking up momentum. They lost their first opener Tarisai Musakanda in the fifth over at 38. Tinashe Kamunhukamwe and Sean Williams then looked to rebuild but could only add 45 runs for the second wicket.

The visitors kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Kamunhukamwe was the only batsman, who went past 40 runs.

The Afghanistan bowlers kept things tight and as the required run rate crept up, Zimbabwe began making mistakes. Rashid removed Kamunhukamwe on 44 and also picked up wickets of Richmond Mutumbami (15) and Wesley Madhevere (2). He finished with figures of 3/28.

Fareed Ahmad and Karim Janat picked up two wickets each. Zimbabwe could only manage 150/7 in their 20 overs.

Gurbaz was awarded the Player of the Match for his 45-ball 87, which was studded with six fours and seven sixes.

The next T20I will be played at the same venue on Friday, 19 March.

Even the tests ended 1-1, clearly Afg are ahead overall..

Zimbabwe were playing away from home and were without three of their key players - Brendan Taylor, Craig Ervine and Kyle Jarvis.

Despite this Zim won the first game easily while the second went to the last session, so I would say in the longest format, Zimbos are better.

Even if you see Zim's tests against SLN last yr, the Zimbos were very competitive.

In LOIs absolutely Afghans are far better.

Afghanistan team in test cricket is very limited. No proper fast bowlers. Spin bowling relies heavily on Rashid. Batters do not have the experience on playing on a variety of surfaces. This why collapse on a greenish wicket. Maybe in 5-6 years the test team will be on same level as the limited overs team. That too if ACB give test cricket importance.

I am telling you the Afghani team will Pakistani team a run for their money if not beat them in white ball cricket

Poor decision from aleem dar first ball looked to be going down leg. Poor batsmen had to hobble off probably would have to retire out anyway if it wasn’t out.

AFG 193/5 (20)

ZIM 148 (17.1)

Afghanistan won by 45 runs

Afghanistan clinched the three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe at the first opportunity when they coasted to a 45-run win in Abu Dhabi on Friday, 19 March.

The foundation for the victory was laid by Usman Ghani and Karim Janat, their solid partnership of 102 giving Afghanistan a powerful start after they opted to bat. Mohammad Nabi came in and hammered a 15-ball 40 late in the innings to help set up a total of 193/5.

Zimbabwe's chase never truly got going, with wickets falling in a flurry. Rashid Khan's three-wicket haul, along with two wickets apiece from Mohammad Nabi and Naveen-ul-Haq, helped restrict Zimbabwe to 148 in their chase.

Afghanistan suffered an early blow when the in-form Rahmanullah Gurbaz departed for 9 after edging Richard Ngarava’s delivery ball straight to the keeper. Unfortunately for Zimbabwe, the rest of the innings didn't go to plan.

Janat joined Ghani on 9/1. By the time their partnership was broken, Afghanistan had 111 on the board in under 12 overs. Ghani missed out on a half-century by just a run after he was caught by Blessing Muzrabani at short-fine leg off Donald Tiripano. Janat brought up his maiden T20I fifty in just 31 deliveries but was dismissed soon after, bowled by Ryan Burl after a failed attempt at a sweep.

It was Nabi's explosive knock that took Afghanistan past Zimbabwe. His 15-ball stay in the middle included four sixes and two fours, by the time Muzarabani dismissed him, Afghanistan had over 170 on board. Captain Asghar Afghan and Rashid then added 22 runs in the final two overs to push Afghanistan’s total to daunting levels.

Zimbabwe got off to the worst possible start. Naveen-ul-Haq dismissed Tinashe Kamunhukamwe, trapping him lbw on the very first ball of the innings. Nabi then had captain Sean Williams bowled in the very next over, and thereafter, the wickets kept tumbling.

Wesley Madhevere failed to make an impact on the innings, becoming Naveen's second wicket. Tarisai Musakanda and Sikander Raza were also were dismissed in quick succession, leaving Zimbabwe struggling 56/5.

Richmond Mutumbani and Ryan Burl put on a valiant effort to get Zimbabwe back in the match with their 62-run fifth-wicket stand. But once Nabi broke through, seeing off Mutumbani, it was a matter of time.

Rashid put the game out of Zimbabwe’s reach, taking three wickets in an over as Zimbabwe were bundled out in 17.1 overs.
