‘Another Zainab’: 2-year-old girl assaulted, tortured before being killed in Charsadda, say police

Charsadda police on Thursday said that the two-and-a-half-year-old girl Zainab, whose body was found in Jabba Korona area in the limits of Daudzai police station of Peshawar a day earlier, appeared to have been assaulted and tortured before being killed.

Residents and police said the minor girl had gone missing on Tuesday evening in Sheikh Kallay Qilla area while playing with other children outside her house.

On Wednesday, the Prang police got information about the body of a girl lying in Jabba Korona area. The Prang and Daudzai police recovered the body and shifted it to the Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar for postmortem.

District Police Officer (DPO) Charsadda Mohammad Shoaib Khan said that police had initially registered a first information report (FIR) in the Prang police station, Charsadda, against unknown kidnappers on the complaint of the girl's father.

Eight suspects were arrested after the body of a minor girl was found in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s town of Charsadda, police said on Thursday.

According to police, the minor girl was kidnapped and then sexually assaulted before being brutally murdered, and her body bears torture marks.

The district police officer (DPO) said that the girl was abducted on October 6 and her body was found the next day.

He said that doctors have also identified animal claw marks on the body.

The DPO said that geo-fencing of the crime scene has been carried out and the girl’s DNA samples have been sent to a forensic laboratory and the results are awaited.

He said that a case has been registered against the suspect with clauses of kidnapping and murder included. A special investigation team under Superintendent of Police (SP) Darwesh Khan has been formed to probe the matter.

The girl’s father said that the family has no enmity with anyone.

Meanwhile, a boundary dispute arose between Peshawar and Charsadda police over the Jabba Korona area after which district administration said that the revenue department will survey the area and determine the divide.

In addition, Chief Minister KP Mahmood Khan has noted with concern reports of the incident and ordered the inspector general of police to ensure the speedy arrest of the culprit.

“Those involved in the incident will never be able to escape the clutches of the law and will be awarded exemplary punishment,” he vowed.

The director-general of law and human rights Dr Asad Ali also took notice of the crime. He formed a committee to conduct an independent inquiry with director for human rights Naseem Khan appointed as its head.

Sad state of affairs but also glad that these are being highlighted and not ignored by press.

Our society needs direction and supervision. We are losing our traditional family values, our moral standards are deteriorating everyday.

It is our government's job to guide our nation and to infuse in us a firm ideological spirit that equips us to deal with this new age.

That's a great point, never considered that. Still such a terrible thing to occur. There's a problem in South Asia.

For decades these heinous crimes have been happening and the law and order are absolutely crippled and utterly disgraceful.

Criminals have been in power for decades and no law and order were made to protect the citizens of the country from some very filthy sick people who are roaming around freely amongst us all.

Thousands of kids of all ages are being targeted by these monsters on a daily basis and there is yet to be any process to be put into place once they're caught.

Have been happening in our societies forever and only now they are getting reported perhaps.

Shocking and sickening.

These people are monsters. I hope they will receive harsh punishments.
