The International Cricket Council (ICC) today confirmed the 14 host countries of the ICC men’s white ball events from 2024-2031. 11 Full Members and three Associate Members have been selected to host two ICC Men’s Cricket World Cups, four ICC Men’s T20 World Cups and two ICC Men’s Champions Trophy events.

The USA and Namibia will host an ICC World Cup event for the first time. Whilst Australia, Bangladesh, England, Ireland, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Scotland, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies and Zimbabwe have previously staged major events and will do so again over the next decade.

The hosts were selected via a competitive bidding process overseen by a Board sub-committee chaired by Martin Snedden along with Sourav Ganguly and Ricky Skerritt. The ICC Board accepted the recommendations of the committee who conducted a thorough review of each bid along with ICC management. A similar process to identify the hosts for ICC Women’s and U19s events for the next cycle will be undertaken early next year.

ICC Chair Greg Barclay said: “We are delighted to have concluded this competitive bidding process for the first time for ICC events. To have 14 Members hosting 8 events is a reflection of the truly global nature of our sport and I’d like to thank every Member that submitted a bid and offer our congratulations to the successful bidders.

“It is fantastic to be returning to so many previous hosts, but what is really exciting about this process is the countries who will stage ICC events for the first time including the USA which is a strategic growth market for us. This gives us the opportunity to deepen our connection with fans in traditional cricket nations and also reach new fans around the world.”

Martin Snedden, Chair of the ICC Hosting Sub-Committee said: “We received a range of excellent bids to host the ICC Men’s events in the next cycle. We were committed to ensuring a broad spread of hosts to align with the ICC strategic objective of global growth and have ended up with 14 countries who will support that long term aim.”

Ricky Skerritt, Cricket West Indies President and ICC Board member said: “The success of this joint bid by CWI and USA Cricket will be a huge boost for our cricket. It offers a vital strategic opportunity to promote and develop cricket, and related commercial activity, in North America and the Caribbean. I take this opportunity to thank all those at ICC, USA Cricket and CWI who helped to make this 2024 venue selection decision possible.”

The awarding of the events to preferred hosts is subject to the completion of the host agreements and the ICC will now work closely with Members to finalise arrangements. 17 Members submitted a total of 28 proposals to host the eight ICC Men’s white ball events.

The host nations for every major ICC men’s limited overs event between 2024 and 2031 have been confirmed.

In June 2024, the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup will go somewhere it has never been before, with USA hosting the event alongside the West Indies, which staged the tournament in 2010.

Eight months later, in February 2025, Pakistan will host the Men’s Champions Trophy. It will be the first major global cricket tournament played in Pakistan since 1996 when it hosted the Men’s Cricket World Cup alongside India and Sri Lanka.

In 2026, India and Sri Lanka will host the Men’s T20 World Cup, before another first-time major event host in 2027.

In October/November 2027, Namibia will host the Men’s Cricket World Cup for the first time alongside Zimbabwe and South Africa. South Africa and Zimbabwe last staged the event in 2003.

In October 2028 the T20 World Cup will be played in Australia and New Zealand and 12 months later India will host the Champions Trophy.

In 2030, England will share T20 World Cup hosting duties with Ireland and Scotland. It will be the first time since 1999 that Ireland and Scotland have hosted a major global cricket event.

The final scheduled event, in October/November 2031, will be the Men’s Cricket World Cup, played in India and Bangladesh.

Pretty happy with the distribution, great to see a WC in South Africa and Zimbabwe. Well distributed across nations and continents.

One thing that has me dissappointed though is the 50 over World Cups shifted to OCT/Nov from the usual Feb/Mar that we used to have earlier. As in 96, 03, 11, 15.

Why this change??? Feb/Mar are generally great months to play cricket in most parts of the world. I'm very surprised with this move.

What happened to the following narrative:

“Big 3 is evil and they do not give other boards hosting rights for ICC tournaments”

Is this drama over?

on social media and other forums our beloved parosis are already saying that they will pressurize indian govt to not take part in Pakistan in any ICC event. so it wont happen in Pakistan, we all know.

2026 T20 world cup should have included Pakistan
As was the case in 1996.

This is all theory at the moment.

Let's see what they do to sabotage Pakistan's tournament.

They are still getting more events than others

An ICC tournament every year is just ridiculous. Lessens the value of a particular tournament. And here the problem is a T20 World Cup every two years.

I get that T20 cricket is a highly lucrative money-making option for ICC but a World Cup every two years is too much. Especially when you've brought back the Champions Trophy.

Well it was true for the last 7-8ish years. The last time a non big 3 member hosted a tournament was 2014. The last time a non big 3 member cohosted a tournament was 2015.

Disagree. Bilateral ODIs and T20s are so lame, nobody really cares, not even the players really (they happily skip out on bilateral games). Having tournaments every year at least gives some relevance to the bilateral games since there's something for teams to build towards, and gives fans something to look forward to.

ICC is increasing events so it can sell its broadcasting rights for more money

Meanwhile BCCI will schedule more matches so they can earn more from their broadcasting contacts. And IPL is going to go to 10 teams and increase the number of matches there too.

The only way forward is to have separate tests and LOI teams. Otherwise all the top players will be burned out

Well it is good to see more teams hosting tournaments, but there are too many events now, an event every year. Having too much will do harm and make these events boring. It's a bad idea to have T20 WC every two years, because the randomness and 'unique' entertainment the T20 WC brings should once in a while, meaning every four years. And India is still getting too much. I hope ICC also removes the useless Asia Cup, to avoid the overload of tournaments.

Here is my version of this schedule:

2023 ODI WC - India
2023 WTC Final - Lords, England

2024 T20 WC - USA & West Indies

2025 Champions Trophy - Pakistan
2025 WTC Final - Melbourne, Australia

2027 ODI WC - South Africa, Zimbabwe & Namibia
2027 WTC Final - Kolkata, India

2028 T20 WC - England, Ireland & Scotland

2029 Champions Trophy - Bangladesh (& Nepal ?)
2029 WTC Final - Johannesburg, South Africa

2031 ODI WC - West Indies (USA & Canada ?)
2031 WTC Final - Christchurch, New Zealand

I removed NZ and AUS from hosting 2028 T20 WC, because I prefer to keep the 'tradition where every nation has hosted the ODI world cup every 20 years (e.g NZ and AUS hosted WC in 2015 and 1992), and I want to keep this so that it feels more special and unique (since events will come back to all teams after a long time).

With India and England hosting all these events, the uniqueness has faded a bit. This is why I replaced 2031 ODI WC with WI, possibly USA and Canada.

But Overall, ICC always messes up. Like, it's completely stupid that in the WTC, they can't even make the final a three-match series due to schedule reasons, and due to these schedule reasons, every team has to avoid playing two other teams. The WTC needs to be seen as the 'toughest of the toughest, best of the best' competition, and in order for that to happen, the WTC schedule must be given priority.

If it was up to me, I would definitely remove the Champions Trophy; however, I understand the idea behind the Champions Trophy, as its role is to give a glimpse of the World Cup, which is why it is a very short tournament but also produces very competitive and thrilling matches.

But I still am not convinced with that, simply because there are so few teams in Cricket, and these same (few) teams compete with each other in the T20 WC, ODI WC, bilateral series, and WTC. I would only have Champions Trophy if our situation was the same as football, where there are many more teams (than 10) that can compete with each other, so the 8 teams won't always be (pretty much) the same.

World T20 every two year?? The game is changing so much in the next few years or so.

We might not see any players with 10,000+ ODI runs anymore from this era( after Rohit) and the distribution will probably be 5k ODI runs and 5k T20I runs for batsman now while 150 wickets in both formats each for bowlers.

The only good thing is that test cricket is happening as much as it did in past, t20s have just taken over ODIs. Earlier, we used to have 5 ODIs and 3 Tests, now 3 T20Is, 3 ODIs and 3 test.

^ The last part is the general rule, obviously big teams do play 4 or 5 tests too and some smaller teams just schedule two tests but that was the case in past also.

T20 world cups have always been held after every 2 years, it was only after 2016 when the ICC messed up the schedule and didn't hold one for 5 years but between 2007 - 2016 there were 6 T20 WCs.
