148 dead after Taliban massacre at Army Public School in Peshawar

I dont know Mamoom...all these things are just empty gestures..

Us talking...players wearing bands..or 1 minute silences....3 days of mourning...nation coming together and mourning....countries expressings support...all of them very very empty !

Actual people need to do actual stuff that will actually change matters...

Cant agree with you more. This stuff with arm bands, candle lighting, 3 days of mourning have been going on for years. Active ground work needs to be boasted and that should be the top priority of our govt.

Nicely said. And after all that mourning and silences it takes about a week or less for us to forget about it just because they are not our children.

the kid was pathan and he would know the difference between pashto and arabic. i heard it too, he said they were speaking in arabic.
But they wouldn't be there without local support, provision of food, ammunition, transport, somewhere to stay, hide ....

First time I ever cried at work

This is disgusting.

Allah make this easy for everybody effected.

The players can't do anything more than pay them tribute on the pitch.

A barbaric act to murder children.

The families of the victims will be grieving and their pain will be unimaginable.

Btw, Omar Khorasani, the TTP leader who announced the attack, is in Nuristan, Afghanistan.
The US, using drones, went after the Afghan Taliban and Al Qaeda hiding in Pakistan. The Pakistan Army should go after those Pakistani Taliban hiding in Afghanistan even if it means brushing aside the Afghan Army.

As a doctor, I can only cry for my nation.

We are meant to save lives, yet we see people doing this; man doing this to another man.

I cannot stop my tears....

I don't want to post in cricket forum, everything is just perspective.

If anything, I just want to tell people to stop hating.

Hatred leads to more hatred.

Leads to more death.

This country has died today and bled today; how much more blood will be shed?

I am devastated.

I don't even know if I have relatives in APS Peshawar, my mind is frozen right now;

Kab tak hoga yey yaar...

Meray mulk ko chor du :(

Technically i didnt bring up religion. Much of this thread is filled with "Pray for these children" what children ? Damage is already done, but obviously you will pin point that ONE post that is too much for you to handle. What good has prayers ever done for Pakistan, Gaza or Palestine. Open your damn eyes.

PTI and Taliban issue needs to be solved IMMEDIATELY. Bomb blasts happen in Pak every week but this is just SICK even for Pakistan's standards.

They're are still people and children held hostage, maybe looking more into the news you'd realise that, hence the pray for the kids.

Many are also scarred for life, not only physically but mentally too.

Of course it's sick but it's not just an issue Pakistan is dealing with. But it also has to take part of the blame for what has happened. Non-the-less the tragedy is still unfolding.

Kab tak hoga yey yaar...

Meray mulk ko chor du :(
Until the majority of Pakistani's reverse this tendency to portray themselves as being more religious than the person next door. The predators at the top thrive when there is plenty of food at the lower levels of the food chain. Same with these religious extremists.

Once upon a time al qaeda did 9/11, and then in reply usa kept killing them that after 9/11 no major terrorist activity took place after that.

150 kids died today, but soon all this will be forgotten just like past events. Unless pakistan steps up and destroy these scumbags.

Pakistan should do the same thing woth taliban, that people in the west do against nazi sympathisers.

Until unless we don't hang them in public, these tragedies god forbid will keep happening

Heartfelt condolences to all those who have lost loved ones in today's atrocity.

Once and for all, these animals should be eradicated from the face of the earth. I am hoping any support or sympathy they had with any person ever will be gone and anyone who ever supported these will see their true face.

Reuters: Pakistani military says a sixth gunman has been killed and operations are "closing up"

Deeply shocking this. Just came back and looked up for updates.
This is really .. words cant really express. The news mentions one instance of a lady going hysterical.. Really no justification. Children coming back with drenched school uniforms. Least expected, and the parents have to prepare for the rites. Sad sad tragedy.

Rest in Peace lil flowers.

Darkest day in Peshawar in living memory. We have suffered more terrorist attacks than any other major city in the country but this is something else.

Such a grim day.

I think it's one of the darkest days in Pakistan, if not the world, in recent history.

My blood is boiling at the moment. Enough is enough. All these politicians, generals need to act NOW! Ive had enough of this, the pakistani public has had enough of this. We need to channel every single resource we have available to combat these scum. Though knowing pakistan we will forget about this, just like all those numerous attacks before, the politicians will score points, give useless money away and say how those kids were like their kids etc. and all this will be forgotten. Why doesn't anyone take out a march against these extremists ? Why doesn't the public tackle this issue? Why don't they demand answers from the government?

The militants entered the school through the graveyard behind the building and not via the main gate.

It doesn't, this is just a revenge attack for the recent operations carried out against them. The number of attacks has gone down drastically since the ops began. These guys knew that most of the high profile targets/ army bases are heavily protected these days and they just went after kids.
As a neutral observer i feel it has increased after the crackdown or maybe the intensity has gone up with Wagah border and now this but its kinda getting out of hands and i guess aggressive action will be needed from Pakistan Defense although this incident might worry some of the Men for the lives of their children and i don't blame them.

Absolutely horrible news.

Feel really horrible for the people involved, in particular the parents

Were any gunmen captured alive? What about their spokesman Muhammad Umar Khorasani? Can anyone find him and bring him to trial for crimes against humanity?

From CNN:

Most of those killed were between the ages of 12 and 16, according to Pervez Khattak, chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, where Peshawar is located.

:(

We are a FAILED STATE. A state which cannot protect its own children.

The conspiracy theorists will be blaming X, Y or Z but the thing is its the failure of our defence more than anything. Failure since more than a decade now.

Our people have become too 'Islamic' and hence much more vulnerable to exploitation. It's penetrated so much in our fabric of society that the trend will take decades and at least our lifetimes to reverse. The destruction started in early 80s when our middle class rushed on this mullah bandwagon and started to define our country. I wish we go back to the 60s....

What alternative strategy? Talks failed (remember, the Karachi airport attack?). People like you are enablers of Taliban. Tell it to the parents of these kids.

Yes I ask the same. What alternative strategy has been sincerely tried? Not even the military operations have been sincere, else you think 15 years were not enough for military to get rid of bunch of terrorists? Remember just recently military and gov declared victory against them. Is this a victory?

Propose a solution then.

Only for you to ridicule it! Before that you have to admit that either there has been no sincere effort so for by military and gov or operation ( and that drama called 'talks') are not working. Only then one can discuss proposals of us nobodies on this forum. If you are not willing to accept that operations are not a good tactic then why waste time in discussing alternatives?

Zimmz, you honestly have the heart to harp on about your party and put the blame on everyone else at this point?! You honestly need to open your eyes and look beyond your loyalties! Protecting schools is a job for the government - and everyone is responsible for this mess, but that is another debate. Have some shame, or at least be humble enough to shut up for a while, knowing people here have witnessed this madness up front!

Miss smarty, read all posts before getting mad at me. I know you don't like my views on politics from other threads but that doesn't mean you blindly and selectively pick on my posts in a different thread. It was one of your kind who brought in petty politics in this thread and I merely argue what he said.

And no I haven't harped about 'my party'. All I said is these incidents are to be expected in response of operation and how operations are not effective if there is no sincere will behind these operations. I used the word 'gov' in general that includes provincial gov as well but we should not ignore the fact that managing operation and the aftermath is done at military and central gov level. Besides the school is under control of army and is in army area.

Absolutely horrible and barbaric act. Please PA now act tough and don't let politicians affect your decision.

From CNN:

Deadliest attack since 2007
Still, even by Pakistan and the Taliban's gruesome standards, Tuesday's attack may be the most abominable yet.

This is the deadliest incident inside Pakistan since October 2007, when about 139 Pakistanis died and more than 250 others were wounded in an attack near a procession for exiled former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, according to the University of Maryland's Global Terrorism Database.

As recently as last spring, the Pakistan Taliban -- a group closely affiliated with the Taliban in Afghanistan and whose members swear allegiance to the Afghan group's leader, Mullah Omar -- and the Pakistani government were involved in peace talks. The government released 19 Taliban noncombatants in a goodwill gesture.

But talks broke down under a wave of attacks by the Taliban and mounting political pressure to bring the violence under control.

It's about time this Mullah Omar was brought to justice. They got Osama Bin Laden they can get Mullah Omar.

They won't. Unfortunately.

OMG this is absolutely horrific :( not sure what to say. Extremely depressing.

Idiots on Twitter saying we deserved it because we shelter terrorists in our country. These people ain't as human as the militants.

And yeah, today emotions are running high, everyone showing solidarity, unity and what not. Come tomorrow, everything will be forgotten. Another day in the office for our state.

And guess what, like always we failed to capture alive any one of them. Hurray now good luck tracing their motives and colluders.

The last few weeks have been just awful. One horrible news after another :(

We already know who they are and why they attacked.

I hope that any knuckle dragger that ever preaches any support for these cretins is executed on the spot. I hope their sacrifices are not forgotten.

إِنَّا لِلّهِ وَإِنَّـا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعونَ

very sad news May Allah give sabr to the famlies of everyone affected by this gruesome and evil attack.

Where the hell was that so called newly established police system of KPK police ?
unbelieveable act by the TTP morons , My heart goes out for the victims of this attack
We as a nation are hopeless

A tough world really! I Am at work now and none of my colleagues here have mentioned a word about this. It is hurting me, because this is a country which recently awarded Malala Nobel peace price. We are talking about children and they have nothing to say probably thinking it happend far far away.

'I saw death so close': student recalls Peshawar school carnage

'I saw death so close': student recalls Peshawar school carnage

PESHAWAR: A teenage survivor of Tuesday's Taliban attack on Army Public School in Peshawar, described how he played dead after being shot in both legs by insurgents hunting down students to kill.

Militants rampaged through the army-run school in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's capital and killed at least 130 people, most of them children, in one of the bloodiest attacks in Pakistan.

Speaking from his bed in the trauma ward of the city's Lady Reading Hospital, Salman*, 16, said he and his classmates were in a careers-guidance session in the school auditorium when four gunmen wearing paramilitary uniforms burst in.

“Someone screamed at us to get down and hide below the desks,” he said, adding that the gunmen shouted “Allahu akbar” (God is greatest) before opening fire.

“Then one of them shouted: 'There are so many children beneath the benches, go and get them',” Salman told AFP.

"I saw a pair of big black boots coming towards me, this guy was probably hunting for students hiding beneath the benches."

Salman said he felt searing pain as he was shot in both his legs just below the knee. He decided to play dead, adding: "I folded my tie and pushed it into my mouth so that I wouldn't scream. The man with big boots kept on looking for students and pumping bullets into their bodies. I lay as still as I could and closed my eyes, waiting to get shot again," he said.

"My body was shivering. I saw death so close and I will never forget the black boots approaching me. I felt as though it was death that was approaching me," Salman added further.

The Army Public School is attended by boys and girls from both military and civilian backgrounds.

As his father, a shopkeeper, comforted him in his blood-soaked bed, Salman recalled: “The men left after some time and I stayed there for a few minutes. Then I tried to get up but fell to the ground because of my wounds. When I crawled to the next room, it was horrible. I saw the dead body of our office assistant on fire,” he said.

"She was sitting on the chair with blood dripping from her body as she burned," Salman added.

It was not immediately clear how the female employee's body caught fire, though her remains were also later seen by an AFP reporter in a hospital mortuary.

Salman, who said he also saw the body of a soldier who worked at the school, crawled behind a door to hide and then lost consciousness.

“When I woke up I was lying on the hospital bed,” he added.

The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan has claimed responsibility for the attack as retaliation for a major military offensive in the region, saying its militants had been ordered to shoot older students.

*Name has been changed.

“Someone screamed at us to get down and hide below the desks,” he said, adding that the gunmen shouted “Allahu akbar” (God is greatest) before opening fire.

The most abused phrase ever. How someone can shout this whilst killing children.

Some updates:

-- 6 terrorists confirmed dead.

-- Hospitals running extremely low on blood donations, 250 injured reached one hospital alone. Media requested locals and their friends and family to come forward and donate blood and help spread the word.

-- Shortage of ambulances. People using personal vehicles to carry bodies, injured people.

-- Provincial govt has offered $5000 for the deceased and $2000 for the injured.

-- Jihadis used children as human shields.

-- Some children survived after getting trapped under piles of bodies.

-- Indian PM, British PM & French Pres has expressed solidarity and condolences on Twitter.

-- Children were huddled at one spot and then shot

-- Operation is slow as IEDs are planted everywhere by the terrorists. They had no intention of leaving.

Islamic militants are the worst type of militants.

Terrorists are terrorists no matter religion. They should ne dealt with severely where ever they are.

Have you beard about Anders Breivik and how many Young people he killed singlehandely?

Idiots on Twitter saying we deserved it because we shelter terrorists in our country. These people ain't as human as the militants.

Qatar was recently scolded for holding mb members by other gulf countries with the same sentiment, the mb members hae since moven to turkey

The US holds Turkey's most wanted terrorist, mr gulen
The IRA terrorists escaped to US

Some of UK's most notorious gangsters are held in Spain
and the chief gangster of Karachi resides in London

Not sure what the point is here

I guess Malala deserved it too then. Unfortunately some people's bigotry is not far from the surface.

Did we deserve this?

some reports say that the kids were mutilated before being killed, that is absolutely horrific

From the Independent...

Tahir Ali, who had to collect the body of his 14-year-old son, Abdullah, said: “My son was in uniform in the morning. He is in a coffin now. My son was my dream. My dream has been killed.”

:((:((:((

No words for this. Just no words. Outrage. Disgust. Hurt. No words describe my feelings at the scenes we have seen today. You are not an Indian or Pakistani today. You are disillusioned human being. As an Indian, all I can say is I stand by my neighbours in this moment of grief.

There are no words to describe this i just dont know if these animals (they are not human for me) have a heart inside their body.

Did we deserve this?

The answer to this is fairly obvious , of course we didn't

Peshawar has gone through some very dark days and as a Kashmiri who has seen and spoken to people who were there during the earthquake and people who were born there near the border in the bad days when grenades were thrown into peoples backyards, i can say it can get better and in sha Allah it will get better, once war stops

I can't even watch the news without getting upset. Devastating and barbaric. May they rot away in a open grave.

Kids ffs, kids!

One of my teachers who I dearly loved got martyred. She was gem of a person.

A friend's cousin got shot as well.

No parent should ever undergo the horror of having to bury ones own child.

I cannot imagine what they are going through right now, but I pray that the Lord gives them all the strength in the world to bear this pain and shock.

The only consolation is that the children who died are in a far better place than the hell hole this world has become.

Horrible news. Its bad enough killing innocents but children? Hope these taliban twats rot in hell.

Is there a way that antire tribal areas can be eliminated despite a fear that many innocents would be killed even there?

This is absolutely barbaric in the name of GOD. Point blank killling of kids. Someone rightly pointed out in this thread that its better to believe that there is no GOD than doing this in his name. World would have been much more peaceful.

Breaking: Latest death toll is 146 according to Dawn News

Kids in hospital are dying due to blood loss!!

Horrible stuff. Murdering children. I can't believe people think killing children is condoned by God. Even God wouldn't forgive these terrible actions.

One of my teachers who I dearly loved got martyred. She was gem of a person.

A friend's cousin got shot as well.

ALLAH un ko janat main jaga de.

I hope these animals are crushed now and whole nation should stand united against them.
